    Dreamscape artist is a spellshaper. You don't look at the ability and see it as going down a card for the discard. You have to think of it as "I am transforming a card in my hand into a Harrow".

    • @ygornoblott9379

    this video is another beautiful example of why this is my favorite MTG channel. for the past week i was looking to build a mono-blue janky land/mana matters deck using cards like Iceberg and Energy Vortex with X spells and big drops and this just gave me like 4 new cards to put in it lol. not only do they fit what i was going for, they actually enhance my goal a fair bit. thanks demo!

    I think one severily underrated ramp card gotta be "Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree". People just think of it as a preator payoff, but I think it can be worth it with just the first ability alone, which is basically a rampant growth. Sure it might miss, but once any opponent gets any land in their yard, you're pretty much set. Plus depending on your deck and pod the risk of getting off-color lands might very well be outweighted by the quality of land you're getting from your opponents.

    • @Trasgobardo
      @Trasgobardo 7 месяцев назад

      That one got immediately in my Phenax deck.
      In a deck where you are actively milling you always have a payoff for your 2 mana expended.
      And that only helps speedrun to reach the 6 mana of "Oblivion Sower", which almost always steal 10+ lands.

  • @Rodrux25
    @Rodrux25 7 месяцев назад +3

    I like Savour the Moment in a somewhat similar spot. At its bottom, it's an Explore for 3 mana. It shines if you have 1/turn abilities (planeswalkers, for example) or upkeep/endstep triggers.

    With Mitotic Manipulation, whiffing on lands means you’ve saved yourself from 7 turns of missing land drops.
    For Mimeofacture(mim- rhymes with Nim; mimeo is from Greek, meaning to copy): you can target the opponent who just tutored/Sensei’s Topped something good to the top of their deck so that they shuffle it away.
    These are amazing finds! 🙌

  • @mave6602
    @mave6602 7 месяцев назад +2

    I saw the thumbnail and thought wait I had the same idea when I looked through the pile of cards my brother doesn't use. But yeah Mimeofactor is okay to ramp especially if there aren't many 5 or 4 color decks at the table. In theory Mizzix can cast this for UU to get two lands if you have 6 experience counters and then for 3UUU three. Replicate is additional cost so reducing generic mana will affect the overall cost. (reducing by 1 will still cost 5UU for two lands).
    Three ways are still missing but they are mean:
    A) Annex to steal a land from an opponent for 2UU. There are also the versions that gain control of permanents like Confiscate, Dream Leash, In Bolas's Clutches, Lay Claim, Take Possession, Volition Reins. But then you easily spend 5-7 mana to gain another land (but also remove an opponents land).
    B) My favourite. Animating a Land and making creature copy tokens. Enchant an Awaken Land with Endless Evil and get a token copy at each Upkeep. Also able to use Follow Footsteps or Ghastly Mimicry. Notworthy all cases will make land tokens that aren't creatures. A nice little trick is also Stolen Identity ciphered on Faerie Conclave which allows the land to copy itself or another creature/artifact whenever you deal combat damage with it.
    C) Shifting Border, Vedalken Plotter, Darning Thief. Those are good if an opponent has lands that produce more mana than yours. Like nice Guildless Commons you got there... would be a shame if someone exchanged it with an Island.
    This is only Ramp if you trade for better lands but there are ways to at least turn that into land advantage by e.g. bouncing the land or regain control of it. If you use Heidar or similar cards to bounce the land you gave your opponent to your hand you put one player behind and got your land back. Noteworthy if you trade an artifact land for your opponents basic it is easier to return that to your hand. To actually turn this into ramp you need a weird combo. Activate Homward Path after donating a land turned into a creature with Awaken (Clutch of Currents or Rush of Ice) or give away a Mobilized District. But at that point that may become your whole strategy.
    Honorable mention Patron of the Moon. As long as you have a 3 mana Moonfolk you can even get it on T4 to actually ramp with the activated ability.

    Mono blue deck turn 3, If I look at the top seven cards and I don't find a basic island I'm probably glad that I just prevented myself from getting landscrew for the next 7 turns. Seems like a win-win all around if you're using it strictly for land ramp

    • @canoli62

    If you are looking at Dreamscape Artist, the effect is as though you are casting Harrow. You are using a card in your hand, paying 3 mana, sacrificing a land, then getting two lands into play. That is a pretty good deal.

    Appreciate the idea. I may actually use Mitotic Manipulation in my mono blue Wizards deck. Reliquary Tower, Arcane Signet, and sol ring chances or at the very least I ramp a land and know the 6 cards I’m putting on bottom is excellent in a deck where I’m constantly needing to manipulate my deck.
    Heck with Information Dealer I’ll probably know what I’m drawing into for Mitotic Manipulation. Thanks!

    Those are great in a landfall theme in monoblue like Cosima, but if you care about devotion or the enchantment type you got some options in monoblue too. Annex allows you to steal a land, best case scenario you gain control of their land that taps for two, or take that Gaea's Cradle from them. Steal Artifact and Master Thief can steal a mana rock, potentially a Sol Ring!

  • @canoli62
    @canoli62 7 месяцев назад

    I will suggest one additional, crazy way to ramp in mono blue that has a lot of hoops :). Urza's Saga, then bounce it back into hand with Guildless Commons. If you don't have commons in hand already, use the tutor ability to get expedition map and find it. If you do have it in hand you can fetch sol ring or mana crypt. Then play the Saga again and get whatever you didn't get before.
    If you are not in mono blue you can use the other bounce lands / lairs for this as well. Unfortunately the mono=colored bounce lands don't work for it.

      I'm working on putting 2 drop mana dorks in my Octavia deck. There are a good handful of mono-U dorks that can tap for a U for instants & sorceries. The other mono U spell for land ramp is Savor the Moment. Octavia prefers creatures over mana rocks - and if you go heavy on self mill, Scaretiller can pull lands out of the graveyard onto the field when you swing with him.

    Dont forget about Blue Braids. Sure you could cheat in creatures or artifacts which can be boiled down to 'ramping' but you can also just play an extra land. Its horrible in the 99 but it's entertianing if your group isnt cutthroat and gets you extra land drops.

    My favorite that wasnt mentioned "As Foretold"
    1)After two or three turns you can drop a mana rock for free while saving mana for other spells
    2) more importantly any blue deck with a lot if counterspells thrive with this! Tap out on your turn and still be able to counter a spell on an opponents turn for free!
    Also great to proliferate

    • @canoli62
      @canoli62 7 месяцев назад

      The big problem with as foretold, assuming you do not have a deck that manipulates counters, is that it works directly against mana curve. My average deck averages between 2 and 3, so after 3 or 4 turns, the odds of having something in hand I can cast using the reduction gets pretty low. This is especially true if I cant get it out by turn 2 or 3.

    Mono-blue has tons of mana dorks as well. Cards like Kelpie Guide and Vizier of Tumbling Sands are nice because they can also untap your tapped creatures, meaning you can get double usage out of your commander or at least give a creature pseudo-vigilance. They're expensive, but they're very flexible in their usage. Even Nimbleclaw Adept is a four mana dork that essentially taps for two, not that bad. Also, cards like Annex are ramp options in monoblue as well. None of these options trigger landfall however, which I imagine is the theme of your deck.
    I also had a cosima landfall deck, but I got burned out with it pretty quick. I just kept thinking "great, I ramp and landfall. Now what?" It didn't feel like the deck was particularly strong in any unique way, it just felt like I was trying to impress people by making monoblue do "the thing" at a rate that's fast but not unusual for decks in green. Too much of the deck was dedicated to just making the landfall work and to generate some amount of value out of it. Maybe you'll find that missing piece I couldn't though, and you'll blow people away.

    The first 2 were good but in my opinion the rest were “meh”.
    Regarding other opportunities to ramp in blue I have 2 that I can think of off the top of my head:
    Urza lord high artificer is just sick. At minimum it will create 1 blue mana dork on cast and there will likely be other artifacts in play that can be used as well.
    Next, is an old school blue creature called apprentice wizard. While it does not produce blue mana in particular it will put you 2 colorless mana positive for the activation cost of 1 blue mana and tap the apprentice wizard……blue does have a couple spells with that ‘x’ mana cost.
    Lastly an idea for a more indirect way to use blue to ramp……..blue does have an abundance of creatures that can untap permanents you control for a more versatile “mana dork”……..to really get the most out them throw in some multi-mana sources like lotus vale, etc…

    What about the spell [[Energy Tap]] it’s a one time use but It can give you so much mana early. Exemple that happen to me. I had cast a 5 cmc creature on turn 4 and then on turn 5 play land for turn now i have 5 lands and one mana rock. I tap one land to cast energy tap, I target my 5 cmc creature it makes it have to tap the creature but it gives you the tapped creatures cmc as colourless mana in your mana pool. So now with the 4 lands remaining and the one mana rock. On turn 5 I’m playing with 10 mana until end of turn.
    What it does is 1 of 2 things. 1. It can help you cheat in one big expensive thing in play many turns earlier or 2. it can be an explosive turn and cast multiple thing that all do something that potentially makes you go off hehe
