The director should've replied to him: "As long as you make it by fucking up over and over again you shrimp bastard ! We're wasting film here ! Go have a couple of cups of coffee and sober up. The next time you spit on MY stage I'm mopping it up with YOU !"

This promo, filmed especially for ABC's St. Louis affiliate, was shot during a break in production- director Richard Whorf and cameraman Fleet Southcott, who worked on the series, were behind the camera.

I just got into Mickey Rooney and have been having a great time watching all the Andy Hardy movies and the rest of his career. Great stuff.

I loved seeing this...it proves that Mickey is human... of course he is.. And a great American. I work with a lot of on air talent and actors and they all have the same reaction of reading these types of promos at times. No real surprise here. It's great seeing this promo outake though.

Think of the time and expense they could have saved if Rooney had been professional enough to just learn the intro line or two before shooting.

This was shot during a production break. Obviously not planned, due to the clunky fuckin' copy he has to read. Doesn't exactly fall off the tongue. Professional writers don't write shit like that. This was written by a local TV affiliate... and it shows.

At least one episode is posted on RUclips {"One More Kiss", 12/16/64}. The show was created and produced by Arthur Marx [Groucho's son] and his partner Bob Fisher- Marx described the production in his book, "The Nine Lives of Mickey Rooney". The show was being "killed" by CBS' "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and NBC's "THE VIRGINIAN" on Wednesday nights, but ABC was willing to renew, because they liked Sammee Tong. Unfortunately, Tong heard rumors in October that it was going to be cancelled....

....and he was drowning in a sea of gambling debts {Sammee was counting on the show to be a success, in order to pay off whatever he owed}. On October 27, 1964, he was despondent enough to take a drug overdose, killing himself. With him gone, the network cancelled the show after 17 episodes, in January 1965.

Around 1960, Rooney did an excellent one-actor TV drama about a man who owed money to a bookie. Does anyone have a name an date and where it may be available?
