Never played this version of the game before. Controls don't respond well but its still fun to play. -

Besides the choppy sprite animations, it's still very playable. Other than Earthworm Jim 2's GBA port. It's up there with Sonic the Hedgehog: Genesis.
Yeah, LOL. 😅
but at least the music was decent
I remember this version. First version I ever played before the Dsi port and the Virtual Console version. I also remember it being hard to shoot the crows in the first level due to shitty hit detection.
“Groovy!”
Sounds, screen space, animations, what's all that towards this port? I mean, just look at his STANDING animation and notice how off-center Jim's sprites are, that's a mistake you'd expect to only see in MUGEN or other such things! Honestly though happy you guys managed to get this one out for the history books. It's really nice to have a lot of these Longplays to kinda have direct showings of each game in question, and their number of ports so people can see without having to hunt down for their-self.
Yeah, this port exists...
Because it exists. 😅
Ironically enough, there’s an Earthworm Jim char made for MUGEN, with the same amount of standing animations, though he’s not ripped from this version of the game.
I noticed it’s off too, but it’s whatever it’s a good portable game. That’s pretty fun. I like it.
I beat this version quite easily. It's a bad port, but it's pretty good for car trips, if you dont have the OG Gameboy version that is.
Yeah...😅
Probably one of the only ways to play this game on the go, besides the GG, GB, and the DS versions.
There is a story about the development of this port, if I am not wrong the developer said that the team was just two persons and Majesco just gave them three months to complete the port, why? Just 3 months? Because Majesco wanted to put something in the launch of the GBA and take advantage that with the limited launch library of games this port could had more copies sold, it works? I am not sure to be honest.
The developer also said that Majesco requested them to port the second game as well, but the team rejected the request.
About the port, I think is decent.
It controls well, the music and all original levels are still there, and at least there is not slowdown, my actual biggest grip is that the animation looks imcomplete and a bit slow... I don't know if the developers needed to cut frames for save space in the cartridge or what.
If you will play this using emulator I could rather recomend you to play the original game for any other console where the game is available.
About real hardware, I personally think it can be enjoyable play it in your GBA if you don't have any other consoles, I think that is up to you.
Fortunately this port is just 25$ in complete in box.
Yeah, but at the cost of a classic's reputation like this? To think Sonic Genesis was one of the worst ports on the GBA
I usually play this port on car trips. It's really easy to beat on gba.
It's hard to see details in some levels, especially lvl 2. I hadn't played the original in years and had to find a gameplay on youtube to figure it out because I couldn't see what I was supposed to do.
I remember trying to play this on the original GBA and it being so hard to see the game, because the screen wasn't backlit at the time. I even bought a little lamp attachment to help see.
Original GBA with no backlight was honestly too shoddy to have released like that (I remember having to sit in a chair in the corner of my room, under a strong floorlamp's light, and angle it just right to see shit).
@@SicketMog All of the gameboy systems were released like that. (So Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and og GBA)
The GBA SP's backlight helped immensely.
@@SicketMogI sat directly next to a huge door window to get sun
@@RetroDeathReviews666 Oh I know (don't forget the pocket). I single out the GBA though because that was especially bad (Nintendo SHOULD have learned by then + GBC wasn't THAT bad). SP was a game changer.
@@FigureFarter Sun = glare... Would've thought that to be worse.
Can't believe you all hate this game. This is an awesome game! I had a fun time playing it
Do you ever played the Genesis version?
It's just not a good port.
A lot of people love this game, including me. They just don’t like this port.
Wow, like the GBA port of Mega Man & Bass they simply just cropped the screen instead of scaling it to fit the GBA screen ratio.
Robert D'Amico how can you tell?
First ever gameboy game for me, played this when I was 5, never got past the tubes level
This looks like a homebrew.
Do you want a excellent gba port ? Try the Super Mario Advance and Donkey Kong Country series.
Yes
Don't Like the Donkey Kong country for GBA, the colors is very brillant and satured.
Sorry, my english is crap.
@@Vectormantudeoz everyone has his own opinion
@@firemario8126 Ok
@@Vectormantudeoz It's not a bad port, but I would rather play the SNES version, or hell, even the Game Boy Color edition simply because the colors are actually correct.
I’m super high and just ate another cookie wish me luck
You can't post something like that and not let us know how it went for two years lol
This game is a fever dream
Am I the only one who likes this port? Yes, I know why they hate and scold him. But firstly, it was released in 2001, and then Gba just started to appear, + the music is very well transferred in it. The port could be called bad if not for the EWJ2 port for Gba, which has become even worse and crooked.
you are not the only one who likes this port, I also like it strangely since I consider this much better than the original version or the snes port
I can't believe they even made a port of Jim for GBA. Or that it even plays this good
Yeah, they actually compresed certain parts of the original SNES version to fit within the GBA small space hardware used...😅
The GBA remake that no one talks about.
Its not an remake, its an port.
It's for the best that nobody talks about this version of Earthworm Jim
I had no idea this game had a version for the Gameboy Advance. I remmeber it from the Suoer Nintendo, it was funny but Inalso remember it was very hard. How hard is it on the GBA?
Classic Earthworm Jim >:) GameBoyAdvance
this somehow feels and look worse than the snes port despite being more powerful than snes
you could tell me this was the scratch port of earthworm jim and i'd believe you
About time!
Why is nobody talking about the cow that stomped the girl is the one YOU launched for no goddamn reason
That cow from the "New Junk City" actually is still getting launched from the other stages, if you look closely in the background... Then, at the ending cutscene, that cow, lands on the Princess "What's He's Name" to squash him, only to find out, he then died by falling into the lava, because the ledge breaks.
Have to admit, that feature looks very creative... 😅
BTW, the ending cutscene can be seen at 45:44 in the video.
surly the developers noticed something was "off" with this version when they were making it
even the original gameboy version was smoother than this
as a developer id be devastated to put this out because if you pause it at any moment the artwork looks great but when its all in motion the game feel is horrendous
Pretty lame that Buttville doesn’t even have the second part of its soundtrack or have the blue lightning effects
In gba version cut musuc from final level
You know your playing a bad port when the B button is the default jump button
Thank god I never had the misfortune of playing this version. EWJ's character model is WAY too big and the whole thing lags worse than GTA Vice City on Windows 98. Genesis version rules.
One of the worst GBA ports ever.
Ayan Mohamoud you right game boy is bad the sega one is better
Sonic Advance is looking at this comment and sighs in relief.
@@POLE7645 You're thinking of Sonic Genesis, the Advance games aren't ports. Genesis was dire.
Ayan Mohamoud subscribe my channel
I agree
The gun sounds are horrendous. Also, isn't the Gameboy Advance more powerful than an SNES and if so.. why is everything so choppy? Bad port?
If you want to talk about bad ports, play munches Odyssey on gba. Aweful. They were both my first games on the gba lol
Down The Tubes part 2 is what I had a hard time with
I did too 12 years ago and now I’ve been able to complete 100% in RDR2, it was difficult. But it’s interesting to point out that each game is ONLY difficult at the time is presented on history.
@@gerardorivera5508 that has nothing to do with anything lol
Wow, this port seems rather low-quality. And it's a port of one of the better games (Earthworm Jim 1, 2 and 3D).
Earth Worm Jim 1 & 2: bad ports
Sonic The Hedgehog 1: Bad port
Comix Zone: Bad port
Super Mario 2; 3; World & Yoshi Island: Good Ports
Donkey Kong Country Series: Good Ports
Why ?
: /
The donkey kong country gba games arent technically ports, they are remakes, because the dev team at rare had to do everything from scratch. They had the floppy disks for the assets and source code, but couldnt figure out the old format they used back then, so just recreating the games from 0 was a faster solution on their book.
Friday night Fukien bad ports
You forgot: aero the Acrobat and mr nutz!
I know which game I'm buying the isn't sonic advance
ah y cant u freaking save!cmon nintendo is a freaking gameboy advance game
I mean...they tried.
But Earthworm Jim 2......uh....
@@CodyRaccoon2000 Oh boy, that port is even worse than the first port...😳😅
10:43
What does Earthworm Jim 1 and Sonic 1 have in common? Being platformers?
Nah, it’s having shitty GBA ports
i can't belive that somebody in earth actually decided to beat this crappy game
Yeah, LOL. 😂
this version actually made this game worse, in case you didn't know there was a version of this game for snes and sega genesis that are better than this crappy port, But the game Is good trust in me!
😂
Yeah, its an really janky port to play with...😅
The Who Turned Out the Lights section immediately ruins the suspense of the level by having the big pair of eyes immediately appear when you reach the last bit. Avoid this port for sure.
Aparently, i just play the SNES version, rather than this one...😅
@@IvanFranco120or Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Version
Do mother 3 plz
It’s already been done.
the developers of game titan didn't even bother on much effort on making this piece of shit
Worse than NES Bootleg called "Earthworm Jim 3"
the super nintendo version is even more better than this
Well sense most of u think that the gba version sucks because most of it is wrong, then there should be a lot more dislikes to this video then there r likes.
This is horrible. The sound of Jim's gun is totally wrong, there are frames of animation missing, and the music sounds worse than the SNES version. What a garbage port for one of the best platformers ever.
Great game, awful port.
Already! cut graphics, poor sounds, screen too close, scaling of the Sprites that made the fluid character look funny and stupid! it was better in the sega and nintendo and pc version!
Woah... this port sucks.
Probably...🤔😅
Qué port más lamentable
🙁
I have this game on game boy suck the sega is it works better!!! I miss the show tho is was funny and cool.
Looks and sounds awful!
This version sucks.
You haven't seen the GBA Earthworm Jim 2 yet.
@@israelflores4626 Both are equally bad.
@@Benjamillion no, at least this one is playable. EWJ2 on the GBA is a different story.
@@camulodunon Yeah, at least the SNES version is now on NSO Service. 😅
Well that was horrible...
Atrocious port.
