  • The last run of Ken Spangler's private HO scale traction layout, on a Trolley night he hosted with multiple traction fans and an assortment of different models running. At the end is a 15-minute-long history of the Northwest Traction Group which Ken and many of the folks in the video were part of.

    At 12:47, I like the recently scratch built HO Atlantic City-Ocean City "Shore Fast Line" car. I scratch built one in "O" scale years ago. I have many "O" scale Atlantic City trolleys. I have Atlantic City Brilliners from the St. Petersburg folks in Russia, a brass powered Ken Kidder Brilliner factory painted in "The Miss America Fleet" simplified colors and renumbering circa 1950, which has the enlarged window openings on the front doors. I scratch built "O" scale Atlantic City single truck and double truck open summer cars. I bought a scratch built "O" scale Atlantic City Hog Island car in the original number, orange and cream colors and lettering.

      @@schmidty390 Shame, I'd love to know the story behind the car. Who is the Atlantic City fan? At 12:36, the man speaking mentions an Atlantic City car he recently built? Who is that man?

    Nice traction layout. I'm a traction fan although I consider myself a traction fanatic. I enjoyed watching the traction models running around on the layout. But, I had to chuckle at the high speed at which the models were traveling. If there were people in them, they'd be hanging on for dear life! 😂 I admire the attention to the details on the layout. Nice work. I enjoyed the video. 👍

      @@schmidty390 Ahh okay. At least on this monitor it looks so very light blue compared to the green I am familiar with Chicago using. Oh! Just up from the depths of memory, about a decade back I saw a plain light green semi cab at truck stop here in town and thought, hey, that's exactly the color I want for my freelance Willow Creek Traction; in the neighborhood of NYC jade and GN glacier green but not quite exactly them. Well ... uploaded images from camera to PC, semi is sky blue on screen. Say what? Oh ... wait a minute ... you know that "green screen" they use in doing special effects ... yeah, digital camera didn't register that hue of light green.

    • @schmidty390
      @schmidty390  10 месяцев назад +1

      @scottfw7169 yes I understand there were 2 types of green used on the Green Hornet PCCs a dark green and lighter green like was used on the CTA 6000s which this one has the green was faded to more closely match the way the car looks today and like it looked at the end of service.

      When I attend train shows, meets and open houses I am amazed at how many people attend and at the broad range of diversity I see and meet. The hobby is healthy, but we sometimes do not look in the right places. Look on you tube and see the work done by many young people, hip hop artists, rappers, women in addition to the older folks. There are many people in the hobby and many entering. In Austin, alone we have around 75-100 layouts that open to model Railroader’s during our shows. And we have met many “lone wolf” model Railroader’s that enjoy the hobby, but they prefer to do it quietly.
