      On PC maybe.
On console its almost just a straight up scam.
The "devs" are complete morons who have no clue what they're doing, literally worse than EA.
      Which is saying something.
My only hope is that they go bankrupt and have to sell the ip to a real dev team who know what they're doing and actually care about the game.

It's not a story game, which is refreshing sometimes. How much story do you need here? It's the Zombie Apocalypse. The story is what happens to you in the gameworld. The whole premise of the game - recurring and escalating Zombie Hordes - is all the explanation and motivation you need to explore and loot. My favorite way to play is Permadeath, and just see how far I can get. It's a unique situation each time, especially when using Random Worlds. Tons of fun Solo or with Friends. I have 650 hours. Highly recommend. One tip: you don't have to build a whole base, it's a lot of fun to repurpose the POI's for bases. That gives you better immersion, and gives you more time in the early-game for finding resources.

You dont necessearly need a story but when you have an NPC giving you quest the minimum is to have some story to why that npc wants that. @@Gauron. from an RPG standpoint, the only thing that's worked for me playing 7 Days is to adopt the point of view that I am clearly in some kind of hell plane. I can't die. I keep seeing the same dozen or so dead people who try to kill me over and over. I have insatiable hunger, I compulsively break all my glass jars, I talk to myself, kill zombies, scavenge, and build. The Traders exist more logically in the context of multiplayer + a gameworld populated by other Scavengers, so yes for solo play, need to assume those other NPCs exist in the background somewhere.

Hi! not sure if you actually tried to learn the game before you started or are just doing click bait. I have over 7000 hours in this game playing the vanilla and modded versions. You can make this game very easy or extremely difficult. It takes time to understand the zombie AI which has been tweaked many times over. From my perspective of this video you had no clue of what you were doing so for you to critique a game that you have no understanding is unfair to the developers and all people that play this game.

So tired of hearing people talk about wanting a captivating storyline in a SANDBOX game. You want a story, go play a story driven. Quit trying to turn another genre into something you want it to be. There isn't supposed to be story in a sandbox game, only lore of the world, you play in. The point of a sandbox game is to make your own stories, your own adventures. You don't see people play a racing game and complain that there isn't enough fighting in it. lol

  • @Rivercide99
    @Rivercide99 9 месяцев назад +7

Just going to address some of the points throughout the video that kinda bothered me. I don't believe a character editor is as useful since the only time you see them is when you need to fix the armor/look at what is affecting you so I don't see the point in rambling about how "annoying" it is if it doesn't affect gameplay. I would understand if it was as soon as you started it for the first time but for a survival sandbox game just looks kind of silly. I have never seen anyone complain about the minecraft character creation since it doesn't matter so why should it matter here? The condescending comment about the birds ain't a good look lmao "you can have that one on me" just shows how pretentious some of the comments throughout the video really are, i.e. the acorn bit. About the skill points, it genuinely feels like at no point you actually wanted to play the game, at the bottom it will intermittently flash a text that tells you when you have earned a point or have one saved up. While I agree that the *beginning* of a build may look off, incompetent building from YOUR experience shouldn't determine how good or bad a building system is since every other building is made by the same blocks you use. From my experience, the lack of provision adds to the game because once you get to the endgame part and notice how far you've made it, it feels much more rewarding (I agree that it is a struggle in the beginning, I'm just stating that, to me, it feels better after everything is well established). Also, the journal explains a lot of things. Not every game needs a story for it to be good, besides there *is* environmental storytelling in the game. Person build torch, torch fire, fire burn, why surprise? Complaining about how finding food and water is hard but then complain about how the FIRST blood moon was too easy seems hypocritical, sometimes you want a challenge, sometimes you don't. The first blood moon is supposed to get the player acclimated for what's to come in the next weeks. Just because you don't know how to play the game doesn't mean it's bad.
    Points I do Agree On:
    - Melee is very clunky
    - Nests on the floor is dumb.
    - Repetitive quests (although they do get better as tiers get higher)
    - The cooking system is absolutely atrocious.
    - Digging is goated especially with an auger.
    - The collision detection is very bad sometimes.
    - Don't understand why I have to break the painted lines on the road if I can paint my whole house and still place blocks besides it.

Its fun to watch players who never played it, play the game. Being an old time player of this game, many questions seems to have obvious questions. Its easy to forget that ones experience makes you forget that newcomers usually don't have that knowledge to apply to the game. 7 days is soon about to be released. Development cycles are around 5 - 10 years, depending on scope, staff and talent. Most games release on early access closer to the end of its development, 7 Days to die released essentially at Alpha 1, the first development version. So basically everyone has been experiencing a game being developed from the ground up. I think thats pretty amazing ^^ It also explains why its been in EA for 10+ years XD

As a long time fan of the game, it sadly does suffer from a lack of game mechanic explanation directly through tips or a tutorial, but most of these can be figured out through looking through the crafting menu. You can find that you can cook better food by leveling a skill or that water can be cleaned in the campfire but requires a cooking pot which is rather common in various POIs. You can find that you can make stone blocks to skip the upgrading process at the cost of not getting the xp from upgrading. Granted, the game doesn't tell you that the forge is basically essential to progressing to better gear, that a lot of crafting recipes are locked behind skills or that certain skills let you make higher level items, but I feel like this is easily discovered by just searching through the skill and crafting menus.

    • @HK47_115

That sometimes really doesn't work too well. After giving a game I try myself, personally I've noticed me going to reddit or RUclips more than actually figuring out how to craft via the game itself.
In fact, wild Kratts in the same I found myself on my phone more than on the game itself. Bad as an understatement. It is horrible at explaining anything to new players. 90 to 95 percent of my knowledge and how I figured out how the game works and how to play it was from youtube. It's that bad. Like that it's just bad. When going into this game I primarily just have knowledge of it being very similar to minecraft. So because of this I actually was expecting the forge to be a vital tool. When I figured out how to craft it, it just felt like I got slapped in the face. Like the developers might as well would have slapped me in the face. It would have made me feel less bad than actually playing the game.
In fact, I feel bad for all the other times I've ever criticized Minecraft for making a recipe so unnecessary complicated. The forge in 7 Days to die deserves a trophy for how unnecessarily complicated it is. As if trying to get resources isn't a pain in the ass enough in this game.
Forgive me, I'm not trying to say nothing but negatives, but I can sit here all day and nitpick the insides and outs of this game from just a beginner alone. If in order to figure out how to play a game I have to primarily go to RUclips and Reddit instead of actually being on that game, that game is already showing me it's not worth my time.
if I come to the game I'm coming to the game to play the game. I'm not coming to the game just to be sent back to my phone and back to Reddit in RUclips over and over and over and over again. No, having certain skills locked behind well, scope progression isn't a bad idea. But they really really really really really really need to do a better job at just explaining how the mechanics work. I don't want that to hold my hand. Just point me in the right direction. Which is the bare minimum of what video games should do when it comes to explaining their mechanics.
It almost feels like they want me as a player to primarily learn through visual cues, but they don't do a good job at programming and said visual cues so I can pick it up. Which again, leads me back to youtube.
And it's really disappointing because there are certain elements in this game that I like. I actually want to like this game. But it feels like every time I give it a try it has no respect for my time. As if the developers went in making this with no regards to the players time whatsoever or just how unnecessarily infuriating and tedious everything is.
And I think that's the best way for me to summarize it. It's just so unnecessary in certain aspects of the game that it feels unnecessary to even play it in the first place. I play video games for escapism and to take a break from infuriating mundane reality. I don't need this in my video games. I don't mind a sense of reality, even if it does get a little bit tedious. But with this game, I would almost actually rather do chores like the dishes or sleep then sit there and do another titties task in this game ever again. At least I actually doing the dishes I feel some sort of sense of regression. A cleaner kitchen.
Edit: sorry for the typos, for those of you that managed to read all the way to the end, well thank you and good on you. Seriously though, I am just so tired of autocorrect butchering my words.

But that's where my agreement ends, you can absolutely play with a variety of playstyles, as of the last PC patch, literally all of the weapons are viable for any difficulty. (That's not to say some aren't better than others, but you can absolutely be efficient with any of them.)
Considering it's a game that's been developed for 10 years with NO extra monetization thus far, is going to be continued to be developed for at least a few more, frequently goes on sale for like 7.50$ And is "Very Positive" on steam I think it's utterly crazy to say it's not worth buying.

it is, in fact, one of the best survival games out. Very few survival games have so many POIs that can peak your interest, and these points are progressively difficult and the Trader guides you to which ones you may be able to clear. I really do not get how this man does not understand anything at all. But frankly theres likely a good amount of players who fail to look any deeper than the surface and judge the game based on its early game. It is a survival game, 7 days is brutal if you play by the basic set rules they give you. It is a simple task to find the way you want to play the game, as a game that encourages such, to judge it based on you not playing it the way you want, is shameful. You do not get anywhere in this game without getting to atleast your first tier 5 poi. Is minecraft a bad game because you got to the nether and it was underwhealming? No clear sign of what to do? No because you make your story and figure it out. Minecraft does not tell you what to do at all, nor should 7 days, nor should any survival game because it is not the point. To post a video and not understand the genre at all is wrong and warrants better research and time put into it, this is on the level of IGNs review of 7 days to die, because they forgot to mention the game is not what they reviewed.

Probably one of my favorite survival games of all time. One thing worth noting is that this game has a slightly different progression structure from other games in that you really shouldn't try building a custom base right away or really for a long time. Embrace the apocalypse and board up an abandoned house. Early game tools are slow and tedious to gather resources with and wood walls are pretty useless. It is much easier to reinforce an existing concrete/brick structure at least until you have steel or electric tools that can make resource harvesting and block upgrading much faster. I can't even imagine how painful it was to grind up the resource for that base, props for following through though!
One other note, the game can start to drag on if it is to easy. You can either turn up the difficulty or travel to other biomes. Travelling to some of the other biomes can turn up the difficulty quite fast but the game also rewards you with better loot for doing so. At the same day in the game the hoards in the pine forest could be a cake walk but a hoard in the snow biome would probably flatten you if you aren't experienced in the game.

I have played this game a while ago exclusively on a private server with people I knew before playing the game and I can say that it can be really fun in that setting. I have zero experience playing the game solo or on public servers however so YMMV. The Twitch integration is really fun and as some of the people I played with have streamed the game I have experienced both sides of it (you can use the commands on other people on the server, not just the streamer).
-In the video you make a big deal about how hard it was to find water. However that is not the case. As long as you have an empty glass jar you can go over to any bit of water and fill up the entire stack of them with murky water (the water block doesn't disappear either). You also don't have to buy anything from the trader to boil it. You just need a campfire (which IIRC the game teaches you how to make during the tutorial quest) with a cooking pot (these should be easy to find in tier 1 points of interest).-
Upgrading blocks can be pretty tedious however later on you can upgrade to the Claw Hammer and eventually the Nail Gun, the latter of which can upgrade a block by an entire stage with one hit. It still takes a bit of time however it's a lot faster than using the Stone Axe. Upgrading blocks is also one of the fastest ways to level up. The biggest issue with this system that I see is that you have to be able to see the block in order to target it and that means that you might end up with not upgraded blocks in in the corners or below other blocks unless you remember to upgrade them first.
The later hoard nights definitely get a lot more challenging with way more zombies and more advanced zombie types such as the Demolisher which are really dangerous.
The game also has a lot of mods for it, some of which change the gameplay a lot.
Overall the game does a pretty bad job of explaining its mechanics so anyone interested in playing 7DTD should look for articles/videos explaining them (make sure that the article/video is up to date as some of the mechanics have changed a lot) or play with people who already know the game and can show you the ropes.
Edit: Marked out of date information based on the reply below.

Just a slight correction here, one of the recent updates removed glass jars from the game, so you can't collect water from lakes and ponds any more. Apparently, when you drink from your jar, you eat the jar too? :P They did add water collectors though.

I've played this game on and off in the last couple of years, the exploring part became a lot better with better points of interest, but the start is still kind of annoying and or hard, some things don't make sense and when you've leveled up yourself and your gear enough to roam in a 4x4 guns blazing completely ditching stealth, the game becomes too easy and you don't have any more incentive to carry on exploring and looting.
All in all, it's sort of a jank base Minecraft with better generated structures, guns and zombie hordes, in the end you kinda get bored of it.

You are 100% correct about it becoming easy and boring by the time you get the 4×4.
That's why I started playing the Darkness Falls mod and in alpha 21'22 there are pre-genarated maps with many more vehicles included and 100s of new poi's to explore, makes the game a lot more exciting.

Granted, he never played the game before this. And going in without any friends with prior knowledge, the game would be difficult to get a hold of. I wouldn't say it's the worse game out there, but it could have held your hand a little better. The tutorial only gives you the basics of crafting. No where does the game teach you how to get food or water. Dew collectors are lock behind skills in this version, and even then, you needed a water filter to even make one. Making clean water in a campfire is also locked behind needing a cooking pot, which nothing tells you that without actively searching through all the menus. A lot of things were fixed in 1.0, but this opinion is almost what I had when I first dropped in the game and had no clue what to tackle first.

Absolutely hate this game. It had a lot of potential. My main complaint is that the fun pimps seem to make changes in the game that punish players who don't play like them. So you're not playing against the game, you're playing against the devs.
    Don't believe me?
There's a whole skill tree devoted to stealth. Stealth is an amazing mechanic and works very well. That is until you're trying to go through a poi. They've purposefully added spawn points for groups of zombies such that when they spawn you can't be hidden from them due to LOS or proximity thus negating the stealth you spent all those points in. Add to that, stealth is about as useful on horde night as various not useful things (take your pick, submarine screen door, bull teet etc.). You can't hide at all on horde night. You used to be able to dig down and avoid them but now they dig to the bottom of the world. "Well if you don't like it turn off horde night".... if that's an option then why isn't hiding especially when there's a whole tree devoted to stealth?
The water food thing is spot on. The devs decided that clean water was too plentiful and they wanted to stretch out early game. Not to mention clean water was needed for explosives and they didn't use them so why should you? (Actually expressed from one of the devs during a live stream). Basically, if you don't play the build they do (which is op) then you're doing it wrong and any critique is invalid because you're playing it wrong.
The game has a steep learning curve as expressed by all the "I have XXXX hours in it and you didn't take the time to learn x mechanic". That's great and all, sure take the time to learn all the nuances of the game. Except... every 6 months to 1 and a half years they update the game. I don't mean just adding new content or bug fixes. They do a MAJOR skill tree/game mechanic overhaul that's designed to make the players "relearn" the game and therefore artificially grind up those play hours.
They also mis-advertise the game as part tower defense. Tower defense games have specific paths that you fortify but must allow a clear path to the goal. Defense Grid: The Awakening is an amazing example of this. In that game, you can build on the path, same as 7d2d. There's a set center goal, same as 7d2d during horde night. The center goal is static, a fixed location that contains power crystals that the enemy steals and if you kill them starts to float back to the center. 7d2d has a moving center goal as it's you and you contain health points that don't come back when you kill the zombies. Cool. Everything is great so far. In DG, you can block the pathing of the enemies just like 7d2d. However, when you do, enemies will just walk through the towers directly beelining their way to the goal. This is the penalty for blocking their path completely. In 7d2d... you better create a fortress because no path that is set is defensible in any meaningful way. When you do figure out how to encourage the zombies to path to you through the funnel you've fortified, the devs change their ai and they no longer do that. In fact, if they can't get to you they get angry and attack the structure directly even if there's a clear path. This change was made because players figured how to make an endless loop of zombies that would path over non-pathable material and fall and repeat.
I love tower defense. Love it. They have turrets. That's a fantastic addition. I don't even mind the large amounts of time/resources/ammo it takes to run them. But then they added demolition zombies. Zombies that if you shoot them in the wrong place they will explode and not only "damage' the walls but do enough damage to destroy the wall and ruin your defenses. Turrets have an above average chance of hitting those triggers. The only slowing mechanism is electrical fencing which makes them pause for a moment but there's a large cd on it. When it's on cd, other zombies walk right past. It's the SOLE mechanic and last I played, there was no upgrading it. The fences also degrade VERY quickly and need on the fly repair as does everything else. The horde night is half bob the builder repairing the base and half rambo killing the zombies. The zombies will climb on top of each other, they will crawl through one block spaces, they will attack random walls. These are zombies attended the Sun Tzu school of warfare. They're more intelligent than regular zombies. While that might provide an added layer to the game, the zombies all act/attack the same. They have slight variations on special attacks and vary in appearance, but they're all the same. Sure the cop spits and explodes and the demolishers explode, but aside from that... not much else. They rush, attack and destroy. If you figure out how to maximize efficiency with how they rush to attack, the devs hot patch it. This ultimately leaves use with two types of players, the players that play how the devs want and the ones that cheese the game. The devs are trying to handicap the cheesers. WHY? If you can "just turn off horde night" then why make major changes to address game play because of people who "exploit" the mechanics? Multiplayer? Like you can't setup rules and ban players who cheese. Give me a break.
There's a reason that there is a huge moding community. The moding community has added some extremely interesting and in depth mods that add all types of zombies who have all types of specific powers. The devs could look at the huge popularity of those mods and take a page from there book and add varied enemies that feel flushed out and not just a jack in the box created to screw the player over.
I could go on but I will say that ultimately this feels like the devs are just trying to achieve "Look how amazing our game is, we have a bijillion hours of player time in our game". Personally, I have over 1300 hours in the game and almost all of those were spent exploring new alpha builds after the major overhaul hoping that this would be the one that make the game fun and not repetitive at all. I gave up. After the food/water revamp, I realized that they were making huge sweeping changes to extend the beginning of the game to hide the fact that there is no end game. You hit a horde night and from then on the hordes don't get any harder. There's no new content. There's mission after mission which are all basically the same set in different POI's and there's no substance when you reach the "end" of the progression. Instead of filling in that hole or extending the trip to it by adding on to the end, they keep fiddling with the beginning and at this point have alienated so many players. They're the reason I won't support kick starters and they're the reason that I VERY rarely purchase "in alpha" game on steam. I have learned my lesson. It's a terrible game and I can't encourage players to stay away from it enough.

What? This is the best zombie survival game that balances realism and stupidity all in 1. The others are just not as fun as 7days. Even though there are many things I hate about 7days, it's still the best among all the others. I find your review in this game rather lazy, you practically did near everything wrong and didn't criticized the actual problems in this game.
There is a story to this game but sadly the chapter isn't out till now. I play this till I open all the traders location and till I get a gyro copter then quit playing or start over. If this isn't good then the others are way more boring and meaningless than this.

Jesus christ. Never make another critique unless you actually understand the damn game.
95% of your critiques are easily solved by playing the game a bit more. Every game has a learning curve, and your entire critique sits on the fact that you couldn't catch onto that learning curve.
"Lazily designed animations." (The animations are actually extremely well done. Their awkwardness and somewhat unpredictability makes the zombies way more dangerous and I love that. Play it enough and you'll find it easier to predict their movements.)
    "Can't find safe water."
    blah blah blah lmao

7 Days To Die has a steep learning curve & most of kai's complaints come from ignorance of the game. for example, upgrading building blocks. if you use a stone hammer it take 3 hits to upgrade a block. but you can find, craft or buy better tools. A claw hammer is 2 hits & a nail gun is 1. you can also skip the upgrading of blocks all together by crafting already upgraded blocks ie. wood blocks, cobble stone, cement & steel blocks. but you'll be forfeiting an exuberant amount of xp

Most things the author nags about are actually features, not bugs.
    1. The game difficulty smoothly adapting to the (in)ability of the gamer is a feature. If you are unable to survive a single day, your difficulty drops remarkably. If you die multiple times after each other, your difficulty drops to near zero. Having only a few zombies in a horde night is a sure sign of you being unable to survive so far. So there is still a lot to learn for you.
    2. Water gathering is at the moment, in alpha 21, at a particular test stage. With every alpha, the funpimps introduced certain new challenges to test the reaction of the gamers to those ideas. The water scarcity of alpha 21 was a feature that got a lot criticized, but it IS actually a feature - of that particular alpha version.
    3. Survival is the primary aspect of the game, thus expect a survival challenge! If you don't like to strive for basic needs, take another game! THIS game IS explicitly for survival. And for base building and crafting, of course. And for 3d person shooting. But survival is always the primary concern. And all those different aspects - food, drink, warmth, health, armament, gear, mobility, bonker base and so on that are build in make that survival an actual challenge.
    4. A lot of critics from the first minutes of this video are addressed by the first release of the game that is coming maybe this year. At least it is written on the wall, and release trailors are out where you can see all those critics addressed: Animations of enemies, animals and players, 3d art, 3d effects, good fps at high enemy counts.
    5. Yes, the game has build in help and message system that alerts the player of achievements and of necessities. And that system still has development potential, admitted. If, as a new player, your attention is occupied by endless new things, those alerts are easily missed. They have development potential, for sure.
    6. After all, the game is not the best choice for casual players, because it presents deeply structured challenges. Despite that, it comes with a broad bandwidth of difficulty settings, which, when used, grant even new and casual players a chance to survive. You must, of course, use those by choosing them.
Enjoy the game! It is a gem among many alternatives.
