They welcomed EVERY ONE into the world of metal and thrash in a friendly and skillful way, great bunch of guys, legends, I pray for their happiness and longevity because they deserve it
All studio guitars were played by James. Kirk played only his own solos. I love Kirk, but there was a reason why James Hetfield played all rhythm-guitars on the studio. Kirk is a weaker rhythm-guitar player, there were a lot of guitarist who could play like Kirk. But James was one of the best rhythm-guitarist in 80's.
@@rudolfxi6084I wouldn't say he's a weaker guitar player. He's come up with some of their most famous riffs. The breakdown/bridge riff is his on battery and damage. The opening riff to creeping death and the breakdown/bridge riff. James is a good tool, but he's right. Kirk doesn't get enough credit. Even if he is a vegan liberal 😅
This blows my mind every time I hear it. Imagine doing this back in 85 with the equipment they had available, on analog, with no pro digital editing tools, AND quad tracked?? James was an animal and anyone who slanders his ability is blowing smoke up your ass
Self taught, no you tube videos to study, just practice and dedication. Dude just has the gift. He knows what sounds fierce and is able to make that happen on a guitar. A once in a lifetime guitar talent. Those gallops are fucking filthy.
Yes it does. The first part of the main riff upbeat is the open E string gallop. 0-000-000. Once you get to the part where you play the inverted power chords in the main riff, that last inverted powerchord is right on the upbeat, right after that inverted chord it’s only 6 gallops. 000-000
Over 5 minutes long song and it's hard to spot any mistakes in James's picking. Possibly he didn't play it in one go, but had to divide it into sections, which were later mixed.

The entire guitar track is super tight. Not even ONE piece is weak. Playing like this takes HOURS or practice.
Papa Het giving 1000% and laying it super tight.

We all give James credit but dont forget Kirk matches James with all these riffs at the same time

James did all the rhythms for the first 4 albums.
Kirk is better in solos, but James is unbeatable in rhythm guitars.

(2:56) I love it.
Best part.
One of the best riffs on the album. It's so nice that they play that part live after many years. I was gladly surprised to hear it live
