  • Gardening during summer months in Texas is certainly not easy. In this video, I'm showing you how my roses look and what I do to add more colors to the garden when roses are resting.

I added quite a few companion plants this year to try which ones did well and what I liked. Somehow I didn’t add zinnias. I plan to add many next year. That orange zinnia is beautiful!
I CAN’T WAIT to prune my roses. So much thrip and heat damage.

Zinnias are amazing. I used to grow them from seeds years ago prior to growing roses, and they're much cheaper/more heat tolerant. They are certainly great flowers to have when roses aren't blooming. I think you will love them. I want more of that orange zinnias, too.
I hear you about pruning. Hopefully, it will be cool enough in a week or two.

I love Zinnias, and so do hummingbirds and butterflies.

I try to be thankful... A lot of people aren't healthy enough to get out there and garden for themselves, or live somewhere they can't plant flowers, or don't have the money to. This can be an expensive hobby......One reason I got into roses was to take my mind off of my real world problems. So even if the roses are not doing well, I try to enjoy my time and have fun while I'm outside. Anyway, good video nice to see a real life perspective.

Thank you for sharing what inspired you to grow roses, It's very refreshing to hear that you focus more on finding joy while caring for them versus what/ how your roses will look/do for you. Congratulations 🎊 You start off with a very balanced and healthy mindset.
Many of us got into gardening as a way to find an outlet to release stress or escape our daily life stress (me included). It's a healthy outlet UNTIL we only focus on the results by setting high expectations / comparing with others / wanting things to be perfect and forgetting about the small moments every day. I've seen many people feeling more stressed by rose gardening or gardening in general, especially during summer months. May your rose gardening bring you tranquility, healing and joy everyday 🌹

It's tough right now in the Southeast... My David Austin's are blooming a little. But most of my roses look like yours, not blooming much but they appear healthy. I don't have a lot of companion plants.
