    I firmly believe exercise is the most important thing you can do to have a well behaved and happy dog. Especially some breeds. And yours looks like a mix of working dog breeds. It’s in their genes to be busy and active. And find stimulation. Exercising and exposing them to different smells gives them that “work” so they feel happy and relaxed.

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston 12 дней назад

      For sure. Our lifestyles and works certainly aren't meant for active dogs like her due to not having enough time. Wish we had more time to exercise and train her at this stage, but we'll do what we can to keep alive and hopefully find her a more suitable family down the road that has more time.

    I know I haven't been growing roses very long, but our weather in Houston is so erratic. Stretches of heat/drought or stretches of lots of rain. Seems like it can be really hard on young roses. The big lesson I learned this year: don't order or plant new roses in our summer. People told me but I had to find out for myself. ha!

    Congratulations on the puppy! Huskies are so fun. Big personalities! ha! I have a cat, whom I love. I LOVE dogs but am not home enough for a dog. I finally feel like I'm enjoying my roses. For the past month, they have been putting on such beautiful growth, free of thrip damage. And several have been blooming steadily. My Desdemona bloomed for weeks. As did my ebb tide. And my Emily Bronte which has just sat showing no growth since I planted her in April, has sprouted new canes and beautiful leaves. I'm hoping for a bloom. Oh the flip side, I received three potted DA roses in August. I lost a Silas Marner I ordered. But I'm not replacing. I lost several others from Heirloom. I'm at a good number right now and am tired of planting and babying baby roses. I just want to enjoy what I have for now. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston Месяц назад

      I am sorry to hear you lost some roses. Summer months here are definitely challenging despite what we do, but it also leads us to discover the tough varieties for sure. Having many roses is a lot of work to care for, especially when having a full-time job. By the time i got home, it's already dark. I am not going to replace all of the ones that I lost until I know I'll have more time to care for them. Thank you for your kind words about the puppy. My goodness, Huskies are the hardest to train as they're very stubborn, independent and smart. We happen to be lucky she's quiet and doesn't have a lot of challenging behaviors that most Huskies have, but has a lot of high energy..more than what we have the time for. We are so used to having cats and now have to become way more active 🤣 Happy Holiday to you as well 🌹

    What’s the difference between the ones that they carry at HGC and rose nurseries like ARE and LIRF? Thank you for your help!

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston 2 месяца назад

      ARE has many roses that they claim are bred for Texas weather and all of their roses are ownroots (not grafted). Find their prices to be good and healthy. They also have many old antique roses, too (with modern roses sprinkled here and there). I have enjoyed shopping from them for the past 2 years. Places like HGC and other nurseries, they buy bareroots from a big distributor like Star and sell them. They sell them as bareroots or potted roses. Quality varies depending on what grades they can get and they are either grafted or ownroots.

    Thank you for the encouragement! I'm still in my first year, so I'm trying to not jump to any conclusions. But I have to say I'm very much on the fence as to roses for my garden. It sometimes feels like the universe is telling me not to grow them. ha! thrips and now this extended heat we are having. I will always have roses, but it's a lot of work, money and time for plants that struggle so much in our area. It feels like a battle. And don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed it! I've learned so much! But it does get exhausting. I have a very small garden. So for me, it's a matter of space. And I love many plants, not just roses. Do I want to take up so much space with plants that don't seem particularly happy in the space? When there are other plants that perform much better. That's a question I'll have to think on for the next year or so. I finally have flower beds now. So I will be moving many of the roses to the ground. I'm hoping that will provide a better home for them. And again, I realize roses spend their first year getting established. So I'm trying to be patient. Sorry for the long post but this turned out to be a little rose therapy session for me. Ha! I appreciate the forum and the advice. Have a great Sunday!

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston 2 месяца назад

      Hi Keith: Thank you for sharing your experience with me. It's a good discussion, really. I agreed with you about keeping the ones that are hassle-free and perform better. My experience with roses starts a bit sooner than yours. One thing I can say is even some good performers can reverse when it comes to health and vigor. What I have realized is growing plants in general, we have very little control (or even raising kids, oh boy). I lost quite a few roses this year. Some of them I have had for almost few years. To me, there are some really amazing roses that can tolerate our crazy growing environment. It takes time and money to try growing them. I say grow what brings you joy, it doesn't always have to be roses. Enjoy tye journey ✨️💐

      Its blooms turn white and lose the cupped shape during hot summer. In my experience, there's a better option. I will be trying St. Cecilia instead if I can get one.

    Hi! I’m in North HTX. I have a red climbing rose and it usually blooms during the fall time but this year it’s not. I’m not sure if it’s because of the heat stress because it did drop foliage or if it has trauma from Hurricane Beryl. It does have some small growth but it’s so strange and I’m sad about it. My Easy Spirit white rose is blooming and doing great. Any suggestions on what might be happening? Love your channel 🫶🏽

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston 3 месяца назад

      A few of my roses don't bloom well this year. I think it's a combo and series of a hurricane and heat stress for many months. Hope yours recover soon. I boosted them with liquid fertilizer and it seemed to help revive them. Thank you for visiting.

    Lovely rose . What size pot do you use for her and how old is she ? I am thinking to get one also and put her in a pot . Thanks a lot :)

    • @rosesinhouston
      @rosesinhouston 2 месяца назад

      It's a big climber, I use an 18 inch but I cut the bottom out to allow the roots to expand. If you plan to plant in a regular pot, I'd get the biggest size you can find so it will ha e room to flourish.
