  • Webinar # 38 "The History of Ensata Gardens" Part 1 by John Coble
John and Bob started out making stained glass lamps with iris and then discovered a very active iris club in Kalamazoo, Michigan... the only Club in
the US that held an annual Japanese iris show. Ten years later they had the largest commercial Japanese iris garden in the US! What a difference a
decade makes! This is a story of their Five decades. Art in Glass and Iris Hybridizing.
This program will cover Bauer-Coble Studios (1972-1990) on Part 1, AND Ensata Gardens (1985-2024) on Part 2.
This program is in conjunction with the King County Iris Society (KCIS) in Washington, Region 13.
    About the Presenter
John Coble and Bob Bauer are the proprietors of Ensata Gardens. Earlier, they operated Bauer-Coble Studios.
They are two guys that have been at the right place at the right time and successfully completed two world known businesses. John and Bob are hybridizers of Japanese and Siberian irises, with considerable success in that arena as well.

Proud to own a custom Iris lampshade crafted by you during your stained glass years! It hangs over my dining table and is visible from every entry into my house. Mom tells me the shade was crafted towards the end of the stained glass era, and it was down to just you two (no employees per her recollection). My shade measures approximately 24 1/4” diameter at the bottom.
