Heehee, yes, due to the unconventional nature of switching positions between segments, it indeed does feel like that. That said, they can totally handle hosting a talk show episode with zero advance notice, because they're adaptable Saturday Night Live people, and they have a humility about themselves that facilitates malleability, and they're creative, naturally entertaining showbiz veteran professionals, not to mention they're good at using this extenuating circumstance to their advantage.
They were right It actually worked. I had no real intention of seeing the movie until I saw them just bs their way through the entire interview and it was entertaining as hell lol

Oh its certainly structured, but like any structure, its just a guideline and you have to be ready to think on your feet. Both preparation and live performance take refined skills. You can tell they were super anxious too, but that's just what these kind of comedians are like. I love Samburg and Mulaney, but they could only pull off this loose style a few times before it would get old, even more so when you consider this is a 13 min clip vs a 50 min show. Staying power requires a more steady hand generally. Of course its an artform so there are no hard and fast rules, but you have to understand the rules to subvert them properly, that's what Picasso taught us.

Honestly I get the “it’s not on theaters” joke because it SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Such a fun movie with so much detail, I would’ve loved to see it in theaters!!
It seems 100% appropriate that an animated character voiced by John would be an old timey looking cell-by-cell hand-drawn character as opposed to some slick realistic CGI character. The style of animation that predominated when he should've been young 80 years ago fits him perfectly.
I love that these two played the same clip again! When I saw that clip the first time, I thought to myself "I'm betting that John's gonna pull out the same clip again." And THEY DID!!! I was dying!!!

This is ALMOST as good as the time ben schwartz and adam pally hosted the late show during that awful snow story and a week of guest hosts. It is still my favorite and CBS keeps tearing it down anytime someone uploads it. you can still find it..the end when ben tosses the pen in the cup to end the show is amazing.
I gotta say, we are lucky to have lived in the era where these dudes are at their peak. Andy was my first celeb crush on SNL and he STILLLLLLLLL gots it.
