Easiest way to summarize is that Lav is generally disliked not because she is a woman or neurodivergent, but because she comes into conversations with strong points in an aggressive manner, acts super smug (perhaps justified in some cases but others it comes off as cheeky), will speak or act with little forethought then has to walk back points, and historically tends to deflect and play into a victim sort of role when confronted (whether intentionally or not). That said, if she has been learning from her past episodes as she claims then I feel like the community will generally adapt a better perception but its definitely NOT there and likely won't be for some time.
I think what’s most frustrating watching all of the Lav videos is that she doesn’t seem to want to make any upfront changes. She’s said in the past that she doesn’t get why people expect her to change immediately, which is fair in a lot of ways. But where I don’t agree with her on in regards to that is when there are clear behaviors that she can change in the moment, like cutting people off mid point. Honestly, if think if she was willing to let people talk more she’d be a lot less irritating to a lot of people. Another thing that I think she could change is how she immediately frames people against her in a really uncharitable light. That does require I little more internal thinking, but I believe if she just stopped attacking peoples character and instead challenged what they said she’d be better off optically. Example: when she calls Aba a misogynist, I don’t think there’s anywhere to really go from there vs if she had come at it from the perspective of “The way you respond to me comes across as misogynistic” she’d still be challenging them on how they characterize her but there’s more room for discussion and she wouldn’t come across as lashing out (which is something I think a lot of people see her as doing).
I completely agree with Kyla and Aba. Women are put under a microscope in Destiny's community, but the moment you use that as a crutch in a debate, you've lost completely. The reason Lav in particular gets so much hate is because she's a woman in her mid twenties that gets babied by Destiny. That is a relationship dynamic that she participates in, so when she talks to Aba and Kyla as if they're on equal footing, it's grating. That double standard and contradiction is still something that a lot of young men in Destiny's community struggle with in regards to women. In their mind if women want equal respect, they need to give up their preferential treatment, and the key difference here is they think the majority of women do not, which is why Aba is right that Lav is the worst person to introduce to these men. Lav is symbolic of many of the issues they think most women exhibit. She not only expects to be taken seriously despite the fact she's not held to the same standards as everyone else, but she also wants to be able to insult others without accepting that when she goes there, it's a a two-way street. Aba's point was that she's such an extreme example that it's difficult having her in a community with so few women.

Lav's stance on Erudite being more matriarchal in her delivery is a valid point. She is calmer, more respectful, and when she pushes back, from what I've seen, she approaches it by making the other person see fault in their argument rather than attack it head on. This does not take away the logic in her reasoning. Lav is more aggressive in her communication style but doesn't hold the same logic. The fault is in how she communicates her ideas. When Steven pops off he is capable of maintaining logic and coherency. This might be my inner misogyny peaking through, but Lav doesn't have the same caliber of reasoning when in a heightened state of emotion
The problem is there are three possible reasons Lav isn't coherent in a heightened state of emotion, 1. Her being a woman 2. her being young 3. her personality. Most likely its probably due to her being young and her personality is like that but most people in the space might view it because she's a woman.

The first 10 minutes of this video proves why Destiny being the moderator for these panels is essential. There were like more than 4 different instances where a bad faith characterizations from different people on the call could have sent the entire discourse down a circlejerk-y route but Tiny reigned it back in and kept everyone accountable.

I don’t watch Erudite’s at all. i’ve gotten bits and pieces of her on Destiny’s stuff every now and then when I watch him. The fact that she is articulate and succinct for the most part from what I’ve seen.

Lav had the right idea when she tried to explain why Erudite is "universally beloved". Erudite's demeanor is respectful, measured, professional, she is never involved in drama, you don't expect crazy outbursts or wild takes from her. This makes it easy to like her. But others like Lav, Destiny or Mrgirl are much more turbulent and have lots of quirks that make it easy to have a strong (negative) opinion about them. This doesn't take away from Erudite's expertise or hard work. It's simply her personality and demeanor.
Lav has made me actually appreciate Sneako despite just being Sneako with a wig, at least his stupidity is entertaining. She is just infuriating, she is simply an unlikable person who has an inability to change or learn a thing despite having an empty skull.

Easiest way to summarize is that Lav is generally disliked not because she is a woman or neurodivergent, but because she comes into conversations with strong points in an aggressive manner, acts super smug (perhaps justified in some cases but others it comes off as cheeky), will speak or act with little forethought then has to walk back points, and historically tends to deflect and play into a victim sort of role when confronted (whether intentionally or not).
That said, if she has been learning from her past episodes as she claims then I feel like the community will generally adapt a better perception but its definitely NOT there and likely won't be for some time.
Yeah I haven't paid anything much to this arc but everything I see with Lav gives me this impression about her.
Um she's a stereotype that is trying so hard to defend herself and prove that she isn't a stereotype but deep down she knows....it's cringe.
I think what’s most frustrating watching all of the Lav videos is that she doesn’t seem to want to make any upfront changes. She’s said in the past that she doesn’t get why people expect her to change immediately, which is fair in a lot of ways. But where I don’t agree with her on in regards to that is when there are clear behaviors that she can change in the moment, like cutting people off mid point. Honestly, if think if she was willing to let people talk more she’d be a lot less irritating to a lot of people. Another thing that I think she could change is how she immediately frames people against her in a really uncharitable light. That does require I little more internal thinking, but I believe if she just stopped attacking peoples character and instead challenged what they said she’d be better off optically. Example: when she calls Aba a misogynist, I don’t think there’s anywhere to really go from there vs if she had come at it from the perspective of “The way you respond to me comes across as misogynistic” she’d still be challenging them on how they characterize her but there’s more room for discussion and she wouldn’t come across as lashing out (which is something I think a lot of people see her as doing).

I completely agree with Kyla and Aba. Women are put under a microscope in Destiny's community, but the moment you use that as a crutch in a debate, you've lost completely. The reason Lav in particular gets so much hate is because she's a woman in her mid twenties that gets babied by Destiny. That is a relationship dynamic that she participates in, so when she talks to Aba and Kyla as if they're on equal footing, it's grating. That double standard and contradiction is still something that a lot of young men in Destiny's community struggle with in regards to women.
In their mind if women want equal respect, they need to give up their preferential treatment, and the key difference here is they think the majority of women do not, which is why Aba is right that Lav is the worst person to introduce to these men. Lav is symbolic of many of the issues they think most women exhibit.
She not only expects to be taken seriously despite the fact she's not held to the same standards as everyone else, but she also wants to be able to insult others without accepting that when she goes there, it's a a two-way street. Aba's point was that she's such an extreme example that it's difficult having her in a community with so few women.
Lav criticising kyla for "feeding into sexist tropes" by being competent was the real icing on the cake

Lav's stance on Erudite being more matriarchal in her delivery is a valid point. She is calmer, more respectful, and when she pushes back, from what I've seen, she approaches it by making the other person see fault in their argument rather than attack it head on. This does not take away the logic in her reasoning.
Lav is more aggressive in her communication style but doesn't hold the same logic. The fault is in how she communicates her ideas. When Steven pops off he is capable of maintaining logic and coherency. This might be my inner misogyny peaking through, but Lav doesn't have the same caliber of reasoning when in a heightened state of emotion
The problem is there are three possible reasons Lav isn't coherent in a heightened state of emotion, 1. Her being a woman 2. her being young 3. her personality. Most likely its probably due to her being young and her personality is like that but most people in the space might view it because she's a woman.

Honestly I was kinda shocked everyone spent so much time talking about her. I mean you can say it’s bad because they infantilize her (which I agree, bad for everyone) but it is an aspect of privilege. People probably wouldn’t be that focused on helping her if she was a man
The first 10 minutes of this video proves why Destiny being the moderator for these panels is essential. There were like more than 4 different instances where a bad faith characterizations from different people on the call could have sent the entire discourse down a circlejerk-y route but Tiny reigned it back in and kept everyone accountable.

The problem between erudite and lav is because erudite is respectful, lav's main problem is her attitude. She is fully allowed to change her mind and yeah sometimes she doesn't phrase those in the best way. It's her attitude because she shouts over people, hurls out slurs and bad names, complains, talks bad about people on other people's streams and then the minute she is confronted, she does puppy dog eyes and if that doesn't work she cries and feels sorry for herself. Lav had the right idea when she tried to explain why Erudite is "universally beloved". Erudite's demeanor is respectful, measured, professional, she is never involved in drama, you don't expect crazy outbursts or wild takes from her. This makes it easy to like her. But others like Lav, Destiny or Mrgirl are much more turbulent and have lots of quirks that make it easy to have a strong (negative) opinion about them.
This doesn't take away from Erudite's expertise or hard work. It's simply her personality and demeanor.

Destiny gets tunnel vision sometimes, and in this discussion it made him utterly fail to understand Wicked's point on why some posters say "I love women" Wicked is not saying they are posting "I love women" because they are afraid of critiquing women, but are themselves making a critique of the anti-misogyny arc. They probably feel that that critiques of women are being stifled or being discounted after being mislabeled.

I honestly don't understand why people baby Lav. Almost everyone on the panel steelmaned her position for her when as a content creator, that's supposed to be her job.

Before this triggers her sensibilities let me say: I love all women, my mother is the model for my moral compass and women are, on average from my experience, more mature. I don't hate women.
That being prefaced... Lav hurts my brain. She wants to be taken seriously but at the same time she needs to be coddled by Destiny but also she doesn't want people infantalizing her but also you can't treat her too roughly or she's super aggressive and won't let you get your appoint across. If you're not agreeing with Lav then you're offending her in some way or other. I've heard her excuse herself multiple times by saying that she's "new to this" so she's still learning but you can't be "new to this" forever. At some point it's not your lack of experience but lack of ability and this has nothing to do with her being a woman and everything to do with her personality.
If you're reading this, Lav. I don't hate you. I just think this space is not for you and it has nothing to do with your chromosomes. Just about every time I hear you talk, it's to say something inane or self-centered and when you hide behind the "misogyny shield" you're not doing yourself any favors because you're showing your lack of wit. The average viewer probably doesn't even care when you're wrong about something. Most of the backlash is about how you go about being wrong. You are lacking the temperament AND knowledge to properly converse with the people in this space. And note that I say people because there are plenty of women I've seen on this stream who fit that bill(likewise there are have been plenty of guys who I wish I would never have to hear from again for the same reasons). The people watching Destiny aren't here to listen to people rant about their emotional attachment style and how that dictates their day to day life so when you throw a fit over the backlash you get for it you're just digging a deeper hole.

This isn't a healthy community. The reason this stuff gets a lot of views is because of all the drama and the pointless arguments. I was in such a friend group for a long time and even though I was the person least likely to engage in back and forth convos, this stuff is not at all healthy. In the long run, you want friends that would discuss things with you, but drop it if they disagree about something or joke about it, not call each other labels.

@@UniverseShinobi I enjoy discourse, without the labelling and aggressive insulting or passive-aggressive hinting. And I don't want a disagreement to stand between me and my friends and make me think less of them or vice versa, or attack/get attacked for certain views I don't hold so strongly.

That said - I think that this kind of community shouldn’t be mistaken for one’s primary community.
The negative aspect you are talking about is good for finding a way of navigating real life situations and diverse obstacles ( personalities, approaches) that might come along the way. It’s not pretty all the time. Mastering your own inner world to that point that stuff just slides off of you is a gift like no other. Or mastering boundaries. I’m sure many fall in that pursuit along the way. Cos you gotta be passionate about what drives you, yet not blinded by your own passion as to never adjust your point of view , while still be passionless for multitude of garbage that comes your way.
As I said I’m new to this, I might not have deep understanding of it all. But I see a lot of value in art of debate.

How does 1984 have almost nothing to do with government surveillance? They literally had surveillance in people's homes. While George Orwell discusses bigger themes in the novel; his critique of fascism and totalitarianism in general, his discussion of censorship, propaganda, and how you can manipulate language/news to manipulate how people think, surveillance is shown consistently throughout the story. It is one of the most prominent ways that Oceania controls its citizens. Has Destiny read 1984?
