Man, this has got to be the best video on all of RUclips. My girl and I sat and watched it together, and we both laughed and cried. What an amazing story, and even more amazing that you shared it with us. The guy in the video is every bit as much of a bad ass as the kestrel was. Lol. Thank you for such an amazing experience.
Yes! One of the absolute best videos on the platform, by far! I had no idea what was coming when I clicked on it, but I’m glad I did. High-five props to you, @tango, I thank you and I know that beautiful little Sparrow-hawk does, too!
I had a pair of Kestrils nest in my Box in Tennessee for 9 years. In the winter had Screech Owls nest in the box. Had 9 eggs laid by the female Kestril one year. Watched them all fledge and leave with the parents . I captured English Sparrows to prevent them harming my bluebirds and purple Martin's. Snip some feathers off their tail feathers throw them out and the male kestril would catch them in mid air to take to his young to feed. So Loved watching them use that box the 9 years we lived in Springfield Tennessee. So rewarding!
What a great story with an amazing ending. Absolutely loved watching. It's Great to see there are truly amazing people that can do fantastic compassionate things like this. Amazing
I am deeply impressed by the amount of time and effort you have put into helping this hawk lead a healthy, independent life. Thank you for the wonderful video
Wow, best video I've seen in years. So touching the friendship you two created. A real team. Thanks so much for documenting your journey and sharing it!
Birds are wonderfully smart and she surely seems to appreciate all youve done! They are amazing raptors that are absolutely necessary to the ecosystem! Also as you pointed out, that hover is definitely a great sign of good health. That's alot of power and strength for normal birds. Great indicator of overall condition! Thank you for helping this wonderful bird!
@@tangostalons5807 so glad you posted! Always loved Falconry! It always seemed like a great sport and I have always been fascinated by birds in general, for such a "small" brained animal they exceed every expectation of what we thought intelligence is based on. You can tell she understood what you were doing! Being she was wild to start and stayed! Amazing little birds!
What a terrific video and story, I'm so happy watching it, and amazed at your dedication to getting that gal back where she belonged...I bet it was hard to let her go, but maybe she'll meet that wandering male and set up home nearby. Great job and your music selection was the best - as if she was singing the words herself! Thanks for all your efforts!
Love seeing the goshawk and Harris hawk hunting videos all over RUclips but this was probably the best video I've seen no hunting just sheer joy at watching this little kestrel and what you did for her quite emotional near the end bet its left a little hole in your life well done cracking video
The most beautifull raptor of Europe.....fast, maneuvrable, and not afraid for anything or anyone during the breeding season..attacking crows, herons and buzzards when flying trough the nest side!!!
They sure are👍 i would have never thought untill i seen them up close in action , unfortunately becoming a rare sight here in Ireland nowdays, but there are pockets of people trying to make a diffrance by building nestboxes ect👍
Kestrels are propably the nicest falcons, or it might be they are the small falcon and are pretty stylish. 6:35 Are we going on a trip ? Im in. 12:05 Looking at how small Kestrels are its difficult to spot them.
Thank u so much for sharing ur incredible story with us. I've smiled nonstop from start to finish, I'm sure u were sad saying goodbye but what u have accomplished is truly remarkable. Well done big lad and be proud of urself who knows maybe u 2 will meet again some day when ur out flying the goshawk. Take care God bless 😊
Thanks Jason delighted you enjoyed it! It was a epic journey and id love to get a glimpse of her one day the valley i released her was very remote and stretched out for miles and miles i sincerely hope shes doing Great 🤞👍👍
I'm sure she's doing fine and thriving well as I said b4 u have done an incredible job with her. Ur videos have really inspired me to start into the world of falconry and I'm now on the look out for a harris hawk, with the research I've done and all the books I've been reading a harris hawk is the best bird of prey for a complete novice like myself. Wish me luck 👍
Good Work! 👍 Thank you for putting such a amount of Time and Passion into this Kestrel🤝 small Falcons got a special Place in my Heart for ever. My first Falcon was a Kestrel Female. I think this little Falcon changed your Mind to get into your Lanneret now, im right? 🙂
Thank you and Spot on! I had so much fun just watching her fly, for me the best part of keeping birds is watching them get some Air time, and i never would have thought flying to the lure was as fun and involving as hunting! I was wrong its great😊 .. cant wait to start working with the little Lannerete soon 👍👍⏰
@@tangostalons5807 I wish you good Luck and a lot of Fun with your Lannerete✌I hope you will upload Videos of the Progress ☺ What kind of Prey did u want to hunt?
Hey OSH i moved the Gos on to a fellow shortwinger hes now flying him at crows and knocking them dead!! Im only flying a little Lanneret i picked up during the moult.. hes a 10yr old bird and only flew to the lure in his first season then put away for 9 seasons until i picked him up.. abit of a hand full has many bad habits but flying like a rocket machine to the lure!! Hes only flying free just under 2 weeks flown every day building fitness, soon i hope to get him entered on magpies and smaller hedge birds. if i can get him to wait on doves!! Hes very small at 450g bud has some serious speed and agility so no doubt he has potential to be a devastating hedge hunter! Watch this space man 🤠👍
How does she know in training to come back to you but take the anklets off and she flies away wild again? Would she ever come back to you if you went out there and saw her?
Hey i had to keep her out longer and longer towards the end to reduce her dependability on me . So on average we started with quick flights and recalled after aprox 5 mins built up to 1 hour or so with the recall and then reward ,, towards the end i could see she was keen on ranging further away from me hovering over long grass and along hedge lines she was scanning for her own reward/food , she did stoop down from time to time after a hover i suspect she had caught a few bugs ect as she only landed for seconds at a time, on the day of release she knew the area very well and was confident in her flying skills and stamina , it helped that the days were warmer and longer she also wasnt sure of the wildlife ranger that was standing besude me so i guess she just felt the urge to head off , i did return a few times but never seen her in that area until months later when i seen a female kestrel hovering above steep hills aprox 1/2 a mile from the release location driving by one evning in my car it was impossible to tell for sure but i had butterflies in my belly hoping it was her👍
Beautiful beautiful story smiled all the way through till I cried ............ Awesome Job 👏👏👏
