I lost my African grey once, his name is coco. I found him after a day by the means of communication, I whistled all over the neighborhood, and called his name, and at one point he called back. Really glad you found him Maya!!
How strange that I managed to stumble on this video and this post of all things. I too had a very near and dear to my heart African Grey that also managed to find his way out into the neighborhood which unfortunately resulted in his passing. It still breaks my heart to this day to think about it and I couldn’t fight the tears while writing this it seems. The saddest part of it all was that he was found by a neighbor roughly 4-5 houses down from mine. Take care of your bird and love him/her well. Never take them for granted and always make sure your doors and windows are shut or bird proofed. Take care.
I just looked at the title, "how I lost my falcon for 20 hours" and I'm at the point where she says "I think we're gonna free fly her". She doesnt know PepeLaugh
I had a crow named Merlin i rescued him at 2 weeks old no rehab would take him they pretty much said leave him to die. Since i had him i took him outside everyday to sun til he was 2 years old. He used to talk to the local crows which i had a feeling were his family since they are very family oriented. He NEVER flew away before but one day I took him out and a trash truck freakin honked at us for whatever fuckin reason and he took off over the back of my house and was gone! I cried and drove around calling him, didn't find him for 2 weeks til he was spotted at a nature preserve landing on people and drinking from their water bottles. I went and he came right to me then flew back up to a tree. He's been there for over a year now. I raised him to forage and keep his life as natural as I could and thank god because he knows how to survive now. I go visit him every once in a while. Im hoping a new flock will accept him but its pretty unlikely lol
Sometimes garbage trucks lay on their horns to alert people in alleys. I've seen/heard it. They don't always do that but it does happen. I'm glad you're happy with your outcome, however.
I wish my budgie was as chill as that parrot. My budgie sits on my shoulder, but it never stops moving and runs from ones shoulder to the other and on top of my head, preening me all over. Also if it does stay still it starts chirping continuously, directly into my ear.. I love it to bits though, birds are such awesome creatures. Glad you get Mulan back!

My neighbors called me once a red tailed hawk got tangled in a soccer net. I cut her free, and she didn't fly away. I was sad then cause I figure she'd die but she let me pick her up and put her in a cardboard box. I'll never forget the way her head turned and her eyes looked at me. I had never seen a hawk up so close. Their eyes are amazing. She seemed like she was in shock, Just taking everything in. We drove her about an hour away to a rehabilitation center. She just had a broken leg and she was with this facility for a couple months. I checked on her a couple times cause I was emotionally invested in her safe return back to nature. She recovered and was now ready to be released. We released her in my backyard, the same general area where she got tangled in the soccer net. Red tailed hawks have a territory, so they knew her and her mate were probably the only hawks in this area. They knew she probably did have a mate, and she did. When we released her, she flew straight to another hawk and then they both came and flew around us. The rehab center people were there, the news , and newspaper was there. It was awesome. She's probably dead now cause this was 10 years ago, but after the fact I'd regularly see a red tailed hawk around my house and I always felt it was this same hawk. All animals are something special but birds will always have this special place in my heart It's weird.. I'm not saying this to toot my own horn or anything but I've saved a lot of animals. Turtles, robins, squirrels, rabbits. I've rescued or rehabilitated more than 20 animals. My dog now just showed up at my house one day and never left. It's like they find the people who care about them. So happy you and Mulan were reunited🙏

So glad she's home and doing well, but at the same time things like these make me admire falconry even more. The Falcon can just fly away, yet chooses to come back. And you gotta put that trust into your bird every time you let it fly. You simply have to.

If you ever find a bird that has been injured, like hit by a car or flown into a window, put it in a shoe box with some holes (or anything similar), and put it in a dark quiet room and leave it for a few hours. Gives them time to calm down and recover and then you can try release them, or take them to a professional if they are injured.

Falconry is so cool idk if this is true but most falconers release their birds after a while and capture new ones and train them but the original birds end up coming back after a while anyway.
The saddest person I ever saw was my lady-friend after she answered the front door, forgetting that her cockatiel was on her shoulder. She cried all day too, but never found him. :-(
I literally had the same thing happen with my blue and gold macaw. She flew away before the harness was connected to the carabiner on my glove. She was out for the ENTIRE night. My mom went and picked up ANOTHER MACAW the next day. Then hours later, we see our first blue and gold up in a tree after someone the next street over posted on fb about it. We came out and lured her down with a syringe full of food cause she was a baby and she flew down
