Fun fact: The actress who plays Jenny is the daughter of the 5th Doctor. She is now also married to David Tennant. The Doctor's Daughter, who plays The doctor's daughter is married to The Doctor
Peter Davison (the 5th Doctor) was at a convention and someone asked what the weirdest gift was he ever got from a fan and someone else yelled: "A granddaughter" and he answered: "you might be right".
I"m also so happy you love Donna for who she is, like you said, she's so snarky, not afraight so speak her mind, how you described her quality, it is admireable. I hope you'll find the Donna in you by the end of this series.
One of the best theories of what happened to Jenny is she “grew back” like the Doctor’s hand back in the Christmas special with Rose, especially because of the terraforming device rejuvenating the environment all around her. Just so tragic that it didn’t happen sooner, when her dad was still around.
Oh and something interesting about the Hath, although we only hear Bubbles for their communication, the actors knew what they were saying because they’re entire script was written out so the actors could match their movements and behaviour to what they were saying. Something that gives the performers behind the alien makeup a lot more to do with their characters enhancing their performances.
I don’t know how far in advance you record your reactions, but I’m so looking forward to the next 7 episodes. The next one up is a nice… calm before the storm episode. It’s going to be rough waters emotionally after episode 7 until the end of series 4.
20:58 When Doctor Who first started, the Doctor was traveling with his "granddaughter" Susan, but beyond that, I don't think we know of the Doctor's actual kids other than they likely existed, seeing as he has a granddaughter.
When I was a kid, I loved this show for the excitement and adventure. Now that I'm an adult, I love this show for the way it deals with topics like loss, and grief, and for the raw emotion David captures so well. He's such an underrated actor in my opinion.
The actress playing the doctors daughter here is actually related to the Doctor. She's the daughter of the 5th doctor Peter Davidson and here's the funny thing she's actually married to David Tennant. This was when the two first met and fell in love they started dating after this then married
Yeah, any other show and it'd be like; "...whaaait, what?" and it'd be a headscratcher, but for this show it's like: "...You know what? ...Makes sense enough."
@@TheZintastic if you think this is a weird episode just watch Red Dwarf that show does time travel multiple times and it's a headache and just as chaotic as Doctor Who. There's an episode called OurRobOrRoss and it's a really chaotic
Technically, she's not a Time Lord, having two hearts just makes her a Gallifreyan. She didn't regenerate, like a Time Lord does, her revival was caused by the terraforming gas. Also, she doesn't have the education in time travel, and it's workings, which is the best qualifier to be called a Time Lord. I always hoped they would bring her back.
I always hoped they would outright explain in NuWho, that The Doctor's more like a politician. One that barely passed his exams, no less. So he's a bit more relatable to me in that respect) So the people of Gallifrey are Gallifreyans, NOT all Time Lords. That's the sort of basic background that should be in the first few episodes of a show.
@@scarpergirl And how does convincing a Hath to go with her make her not kind? She's incredibly compassionate and kind and tries to help people/aliens just like the Doctor does. Pretty much like most companions after all. The Doctor doesn't pick greedy, not kind people to travel with him. Well, we won't mention what's his face from the 9th Doctor's travels.... lol
@@scarpergirl Being necessary or not, doesn't take away from Martha being kind and compassionate to others. Saying she's not kind because she convinced a character to go with her and then that character died, is a massive stretch man, just saying.
Geogia Moffat (Jenny) daughter of Peter Davison (5th Doctor) and Sandra Dickiinson (Trillian from BBC Hitchiker' Guide to the Galaxy) married David Tennant years later and has 5 kids. MULTIPLE Doctors grsnddaughters. She was also the producer on a 50th Anniversary special made originally by her father featuring her husband ( no spoilers).
@@ninjabluefyre3815 No, long before that, on another popular British SF series, "The Tomorrow People". The story to search for is called "A Man for Emily". Peter had to fake his American accent; Sandra already had one! =:o] Alas, by the time Peter was in Doctor Who, let alone HHGTHG, the marriage was already coming apart, and Sandra eventually returned to the US... but Peter seems to have done a decent enough job of solo-parenting Georgia. =;o}
Spot the famous person. This week the award goes to … Joe Dempsie who plays Cline Joe is known for playing Gendry in Game of Thrones and Chris Miles in Skins Honourable mention to Georgina Tennant who plays Jenny She is also known for being David Tennant's wife and the daughter of Peter Davison, who has also played Dr Who So she is, in real life, both the Doctor's daughter and the Doctor's wife She is also the daughter of Sandra Dickinson who was Trillian in the 80’s TV series, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
She also went to school with Colin Baker's daughter (he was the 6th Doctor) - she said in an interview that she just thought EVERYONE'S dad was the Doctor at some point.
As much as I love the HHGTTG series, I feel she was quite miscast, that and they did quite a disservice to the character of Trillian with the series. Though Douglas himself made changes to his stories with incarnation, it just feels like more was at play here.
Just a little explaination. Jenny didn't regenerate but got fixed up by the Terraforming juice in the air. The Doctor said that it is for bringing life and that's what it basically did.
Maybe. Or perhaps the first-15-hours rule applies. It allowed the Doctor to regrow a body part after a regeneration. Maybe it allows a similar restoration here.
@@paulkennedy8701 It's pretty much telegraphed. When she breathes out, the dust has a yellowish-green-red, not the usual golden dust we're used to. It's the same color of the dust that appears when the Doctor destroys the source.
@@ShadowtheHuman209 That's interesting. I hadn't noticed a difference of color. Still, the fact that a sparkly exhalation appears _at all_ must indicate some connection to Time Lord biology. I don't think we've seen (or will see-no spoilers) this other than with Time Lords during regeneration (or in the lead-up or aftermath).
You are the first person I've seen be shocked at how the Doctor said "bougainvillea". It's probably just 'cause we're Australian, but it's nice to see that confusion that I feel for a split second every time I watch this episode. Thanks Jules! Also, I just want to say, you are my favourite person on the internet. You are so positive and it has been an absolute joy watching you react to my favourite show with such wonder. I lost that positivity a long time ago, but you are making me want to find it again. Lots of love!!
It definitely is not how I pronounce it haha 🤣 bogan-ville-eeah is how I've always heard people say here! Accents and pronunciations are funny things 😅 Rachel, thank you SO much for your kind words! It is truly a blessing to have someone here as wonderful as yourself 💜
theres a beautiful deleted scene just before the end of the episode, where donna comforts the doctor over jenny’s death and he just dismisses her, pretending he’s okay. absolute criminal they deleted that. amazing video as always jules!! 🥰❤❤
And so The Doctor's family tree gets a bit more complicated... both in-universe and out of it! This episode is actually how David Tennant met his future wife Georgia, who plays Jenny in this episode! If that wasn't strange enough, she's also the daughter of The 5th Doctor, Peter Davison, who you last saw in the Time Crash minisode! And since Peter Davison was Tennant's favourite Doctor growing up, he basically got to marry his hero's daughter! Georgia Tennant, when asked in an interview about how it is to be the Doctor's Daughter, both in the show and out of it, she explained that she also went to school with the daughter of Colin Baker, the actor who played The 6th Doctor, so she was just under the impression that everyone's dad was The Doctor! All of those strange circumstances aside, this is a fun episode! Great to see Martha back in action on an adventure in the Tardis. I love her compassion and her medical instinct as she instantly takes care of the injured Hath and begins to learn their side of the story. Though it's very sad when her new friend sacrifices himself to save her in return. Jenny is a fun addition too - she's got the same spirit as The Doctor does at heart, even if she is a clone made for war. To clarify something - I don't think Jenny regenerated, more that the Source was able to revive her as it brought life back to the planet, though this may only have been possible because she's an clone/echo of a Time Lord, so it might not have worked were she human. Donna is brilliant as usual, especially with how she figures out the truth behind a war with only her everyday skills, and how she immediately sticks up for Jenny to the Doctor. The Hath are also quite a cool alien design. I'm not sure what other stories they could tell about them, but I wouldn't mind seeing them again.
Donna is great! She's one of my favorite companions. I'm so glad that you enjoy her run so far, I think it's amazing! This episode is a good one, nice to see Martha again with the Doctor. It's sad at times, but I'm glad it has a pretty happy ending all things considered.
In the end, the Doctor’s daughter proves the phrase Like Father Like Daughter to be incredibly true. At the first instinct she could once she’d been restored, Jenny went “Fuck this shit, I’m *out!*” stole a space ship… and ran for the hills.
The Doctor was travelling with his granddaughter when he first appeared, but we don't know anything about the Doctor's family beyond that. I think the show's creators made her his granddaughter because they didn't like the idea of an old guy travelling around the universe with an unrelated teenage girl, but I don't think there was much thought of the implications beyond that. When the show started, the Doctor was just a mysterious alien traveller with a time machine, no-one knew anything about where he came from or who he was or who his people were. And that stuff didn't start being filled in until (arguably) the end of season 2 when we first met another person from the same planet as the Doctor.
HAHAHA!! I adore it when people notice/comment on my big grey beast! He hasn't been up there for a few weeks now. It's coming into the colder weather, so maybe that will change his mind. It does get very warm in my room!
David and Georgia are gorgeous. Absolutely love the snaps they released a few years ago and they have five children. They certainly kept each other busy and in so many photos they look so happy and she always looks like he makes her laugh. They are lucky to have each other.
If you have the money and want some more Jenny stories, Big Finish have done some officially licensed Jenny audio dramas that are quite fun. She's an interesting character in those stories in that she's very much similar to the Doctor, but she's so young and inexperienced that she's still learning how to be like her dad.
DOCTOR: Donna, I've been a father before. DONNA: What? DOCTOR: I lost all that a long time ago, along with everything else. DONNA: I'm sorry. I didn't know. Why didn't you tell me? You talk all the time, but you don't say anything. DOCTOR: I know. I'm just. When I look at her now, I can see them. The hole they left, all the pain that filled it. I just don't know if I can face that every day. DONNA: It won't stay like that. She'll help you. We both will. DOCTOR: But when they died, that part of me died with them. It'll never come back. Not now. DONNA: I tell you something, Doctor. Something I've never told you before. I think you're wrong. It's not often the Doctor talks about his original family back on Gallifrey. He has mentioned them, but after The Time War, it must hurt too much to talk about them. I really like how they have Gallifrey's theme playing for that scene. Such a beautiful piece of music.
Oh I've seen this one and liked it. Oh the actor Nigel Terry played Prince John in The Lion in Winter and King Arthur in Excalibur. Great guest stars on British TV shows. Nice send off for Dr Jones.
I have a problem with it. It comes immediately after the Doctor saying _he_ "never would". At least part of it is him saying "base your society on me". (That happened a few regenerations back, and it didn't go well.) Many versions of the Doctor would just sneak away. This version has a tendency to act superior and overbearing.
Love your breakdown at the end of this one ! I am so glad they keep trickling little bits of information about the Doctors past. The more I rewatch these with you really solidifies to me that Donna is an absolute rock for the doctor. She truly is his best friend and confidant
The Doctor’s “I never would” statement was either a big fib, or he wasn’t thinking straight at the time. He’s a reluctant killer and doesn’t like guns, but he’s killed plenty of (usually hostile) intelligent aliens of various kinds. If you remember, this 10th Doctor killed the Sycorax leader in his first story, “The Christmas Invasion”-and seemed quite cheerful about it. He has a soft spot for humans and usually avoids killing them, but I think he must have killed some occasionally. As the man said, Death follows him around.
Idk, I think it could definitely be taken as not just a general “I never would(kill),” but rather a “I never would(kill like this).” That could refer to tons of things like not executing an unarmed opponent, killing out of anger/revenge. Whatever the specifics, feels like a consistent (or at least *more* truthful) meaning could be taken from the words and the context.
I think he was more concerned about a foundational myth for them to build on and meant more "I wouldn't extrajudically execute an unarmed man in custody in a rage." than "I would never kill."
@@morrigannibairseach1211 The “foundational myth” idea may have something to it. But the Doctor saying “I never would” doesn’t ring true, whatever behaviour he’s talking about, because the Doctor’s behaviour has been written about by many different writers for more than 60 years and counting, and if he hasn’t done it in the past he’ll probably do it in the future. More generally, if anyone (especially an almost-immortal someone) tells you that he/she will never do something, you should be sceptical. People change over time, and unforeseeable circumstances arise.
@@jonathan.palfrey the point is that it doesn't particularly matter if it's true, only that the other characters present believe that it is, as well as witness his present refusal to kill even in his grief and anger. there is a wider thing of nuwho convincing audiences that the doctor is "against guns" (but completely in support of alternative means of causing death and serious injury), but despite the infamy of this scene, i never really thought it was particularly guilty of that, at least not on it's own. it just makes sense as an action, on the doctor's part.
@@resiseven7407 What it means to me is that what the Doctor says is no more reliable than what any ordinary human says, and we shouldn't take such statements seriously. Which is not surprising: apart from the two hearts and the regenerations, the Doctor is functionally much like a human. He’s fairly clever, but within the range of normal human intelligence.
It is one of my favorite episodes of the whole "Doctor who" show. Georgia Moffett is brilliant. I LOVE how much character and energy she put into the role of Jenny.
No coincidence that Georgia Moffatt is playing the Doctor's daughter as she is in fact Peter Davison's daughter (5th Doctor, with the celery and beige outfit). Not only that but David and Georgia fell for each other and have been married for some time. So in the Whoniverse the Doctor is his own father and son in law as well as being married to his own daughter!!!
"It's so unexpected". So unexpected, they'd finished the script without it. Jenny only survives in the final draft. They were choosing the succeeding showrunner candidates & one (Stephen Moffat, Girl in fireplace/Blink) asked that she survived. Original ending in the deleted scenes, only deleted for time.
Jules: Is that really his daughter? The fandom smirking: She's Peter Davison's, the 5th Doctor, daughter irl. Georgina and Tennant met on set and later got married. We all love this story so much. We also love making jokes about her calling him Daddy and Tennant saying to his father in law "I'm twice the man you are" because Davison was 5 and Tennant is 10. We also love the story about the most surprising gift from a fan Davison ever got. This episode is just... so damn good. I really wish Jenny could have gone with them. Also she didn't regenerate. The Source resurrected her. I would definitely watch a spinoff show about Jenny. Also a bit of context: being Gallifreyan does not inherently make one a Timelord. So even though by the end he does recognize her as a legitimate daughter she wasn't going to regenerate and he knew this but just didn't want it to be true. So close and yet so damn far. And I bet you thought I was excited for this episode just cause it had Martha in it lol. Definitely the cherry on top but the concept and Jenny are the real treat. And this isnt even my favorite of this series. It gets better. We still got some bangers left to go before my favorite of this series. This series really is the most iconic.
I like to believe that she didn't regenerate, but because she died when the sources gasses was released, it brought her back to life. Also, regeneration energy looks like the gasses in the source.
At the end, she didn't regenerate, the terraforming gas escaped from insider her, after repairing her. You can tell because it had the green mixed in with the yellow, and that she didn't change her face :D
While I don't have any concrete source for it, it is said the weird ending where Jenny wakes up again was added by Moffats suggestion. I don't like it since it is to this day unexplained how she came back to life (though the planet rejuvination gas is the most plausible theory) and her living kinda undermines her sacrifice and what role she played in bringing peace for this planet.
I always have thought that its a bit like The Doctor in A Christmas Invasion where he loses his hand and can grow it back by using the regeneration energy he has left over. Jenny was just born (something literally referred to as her being 'generated') so I headcanon that, while it could still be partially due to the terraforming, it is also due to her being shot only a few hours after her body being formed and thus being able to heal the bullet wound without regenerating like The Doctor could grow his hand back.
Her sacrifice is still important because its how it affects the Doctor, he doesn't know she lives so he carries on thinking she died for him. I would give examples but I don't want to add spoilers. By the time she came back to life all the other soldiers had already left including the man who killed her, her coming back doesn't erase what he did, he still chose to kill and he has to live with that guilt
The reason Jenny didn't regenerate is because she was dating David Tennant and they thought they might bring her back for some other episodes. She also has an audio drama series produced by Big Finish Productions. It's a shame though, the ending would have been much better if, instead of waking up and flying away, she just started regenerating after he left and we never got to see who she regenerated into. That would have been so much better IMO.
If you look closely, what comes out of her mouth wasn't just gold, which is artron/regeneration energy. It's gold *and green* which is the color of the terraforming gas. The Source healed her, I think.
Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but Jenny's husband and dad are both in the second season of Good Omens, along with a much younger actor called Ty Tennant...
They're getting to be quite the Showbiz dynasty, rivalling the Beryl Vertue/Sue Vertue/Stephen Moffat powerhouse (who so, as far as I know, haven't *YET* produced a 3rd generation of active professional talent... Although the younger Moffat boys have contributed little snippets to their Dad's writing/show-running on Doctor Who! =;o} )
17:18 A fellow Time Lord once referred to the 4th Doctor as a "C student." So. Other time lords seem to have a much more refined control over their regeneration. Remember The Master when he regenerated? "If The Master can be YOUNG and STRONG... Than so can I..." As if he willed, specifically, an iteration of himself to match 10. This one pulls at the strings. Funny enough, David Tennant married his in universe daughter... Who is the daughter of the 5th Doctor who we saw in "Time Crash." Sorta makes them The Doctor Who Royal Family in a way.
The fact that the 5th Doctor's daughter played the 10th Doctor's daughter and then married the 10th Doctor - and had a daughter, is the most Doctor Who thing ever. Try telling a ten year old David Tennant he was the Doctor's son in law; also The Doctor himself, twice. That's more meta than any Doctor Who script I've ever seen.
Jenny was more "revived" than regenerated. Russell T. Davies was going to have Jenny die, but was convinced not to do so by Stephen Moffat. Jenny has the potential to be a Time Lord. Genetically, she's Gallifreyan, but she didn't go through the trials (such as staring into the Untempered Schism as seen in Series 3), or exposed to the Time Vortex for any length of time.
There is already a lot of comments talking about Jenny but to confirm yes she's the daughter of a past doctor and a wife to 10 which I just think is kinda funny. RIP Hath who sacrificed his life for Martha I love how this episode shows off Donna's smarts. This is why I love her. Sadly besides I think radio podcasts, Jenny never reappears in the show. Which I have no clue why, it would have been amazing to see but maybe they didn't have a good story reason to reunite them. Then again considering the actress goes on to marry David Tennant that was something ^^
I always thought that this episode provides Martha with a deeper understanding of what it means to be The Doctor. She helps someone and gains their trust then encourages them to go on the dangerous adventure with her. Then her companion sacrifices themselves to save her and she must continue on with the knowledge if she had not brought the Hoth with her the Hoth would still be alive.
Awesome it's time for more Doctor Who and the Doctors Daughter episode which I saw several years ago on PBS this is going to be an awesome episode, i went to the optometrist yesterday for an eye exam and I have new glasses ordered so I can watch your videos a little bit more clearer, have a great week and thank you my friend Juliette.🇦🇺🙏🇦🇺
The big behind-the-scenes revelation has been covered a lot in the comments, but I will add that Georgia Tennant stars in more adventures of Jenny on Big Finish audio. She also sometimes works with her husband, as in the show, _Staged,_ where they play fictionalized versions of themselves. You might want to give it a look. Their son, Ty Tennant, has appeared on _House of the Dragon._
@@therealpbristow Well, she's still in the process of raising five kids (not saying he isn't, but he obviously works a lot). Looking forward to her audio adventures. She was a producer on _Staged,_ I think too. Neil Gaiman said she was offered a part on _Good Omens_ season two, but she felt she wasn't right for it. I think one or two other projects where she could act fell through. She was recently in Michael Sheen's _The Way_ last year and has a new set of audio adventures for Jenny coming out this year. She seems open to acting roles.
I'm so happy to join you on this journey. I love how you react to all of the emotional high points perfectly. I'm excited to follow you through the end of this series and beyond!
Comments on this episode always make me laugh. Dozens of people always feel the need to explain Georgia's family history, as if they are the only person to think of it.
Hi Jules 🙋♂... Great reaction ... especially these latest ones !!! I've not seen you change moods so much and so often within a single episode, and it's exciting to watch you go through your emotions. BTW, I always loved Jenny (actually should've been Genny ... for reGENerate, as they implied???), and thought she was "Brilliant", as The Doctor would say. What a great episode, having The Doctor, Donna, Martha and Jenny AND even Nigel Terry (King Arthur from movie, Excalibur) as an added bonus, all in one episode, along with such an interesting subject/plot.
Say Jules, did you know that Georgia Moffet, the actress who played Jenny... you know what, I have a feeling you're getting sick of hearing this by now. I'll assume that you already know. 😉 I will say though that if you want to see Georgia and David on-screen together, you should watch 'Staged', the show that David made with Michael Sheen over Zoom during lockdown. They play fictionalised versions of themselves and Georgia's in it a fair bit (I think she was a producer too). There's also a brilliant comedic special from the fiftieth anniversary (you'll get there), written and directed by Peter Davison (her father, the Fifth Doctor). Both Georgia and David appear in it in some memorable scenes. Also, Jenny has received a spin-off series of audio dramas called 'Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter', with Georgia reprising her role. As for this episode, it's brilliant. I really appreciate how many episodes in Season Four are set on other planets, I think it has more than the previous three seasons. The twist about how long the war has been going on for is great, and I love that Donna is the only one who noticed the numbers. There are a lot of great Doctor monologues and speeches that you'll get to hear over time, but I think "I never would" is such a simple, elegant and powerful line. It's definitely up there with Tennant's greatest moments. Finally, in regards to the Doctor's family, when the show started in 1963, the Doctor was travelling with his granddaughter, Susan. Not much else has ever been revealed about his family for certain, though a lot of expanded media have explored different possibilities. It's known that he's been married, and in some continuities he has a brother, as well as a half-human great, great grandson named Alex. We're really plowing through the season and it's only going to get better from here!
ASHLEY 🤣 you had me going with that first sentence! HA! Love it... A sense of humour is a precious thing to have. I loved this episode. Everything was just SO good. I still wonder why I missed this show all these years, but maybe it came to me at just the right time in life 💜
Fun fact that’s his wife in real life and the daughter of the fifth Dr. Peter Davidson and can’t wait for next episode have a wonderful day and love the videos
I’ve always wished for the return of Jenny in some way. Obviously at this point that could be logistically difficult, from actors returning/recast to making the plot/story good and everything in between, but still. Feel like her energy and origins could do a lot either with a Doctor with a similar energy, or a Doctor to contrast with.
I do wonder if the missing element was contained in the globe that was full of gasses? It looked an awful lot like the doctor's regenerative energy.... Perhaps it was more than just "gas"? Perhaps it simply triggered the effect in her? I've always wondered about that. Donna is a character... a person to be ... no.... a force to be reckoned with! I am really enjoying the commentary and the reactions, and I think my favorite line from this episode was " He's pretty close to getting a slapping!" LOL! But of course,, if any of his traveling companions were going to slap him, I think it would be Donna!
Here I am, finding myself feeling bad for a "fishman" who's been around for roughly only about 20 -ish minutes and whos only line more or less is, AND I QUOTE: "blblublblblblbulblub..." ...I'm not sure how EXACTLY it is that this is, but they found a way.
No spoilers here, but I do remember that, immediately after this episode aired, I desperately wanted the Doctor to run into his daughter again at some point, discover that she was alive, and have some true joy (and adventures!) with her, at least for a time. He deserves joy, and she deserves a dad. 🥰
This is not a well regarded story in fandom. It's grown on me, but I think it needed more room to breathe, and would have worked better as a two-parter - that way we could have seen more of Martha with "her" Hath, and then it's sacrifice could have hit harder. It just feels very rushed. But still thoroughly enjoyable, mind!
One of my top 5 favorite episodes. It was so disappointing that Jenny was not able to travel with the Doctor. Shortly after meeting, David Tennent and Georgia (Jenny) married and have two or three kids now. Georgia's father was the 5th Doctor, Pete Davidson, who was David's favorite Doctor.
Heh! That's a thought... =:oD But then, they also have to get used to Daddy and Grandpa being supposedly the same person... Slightly easier for Ty than the younger kids, at least: "My adopted father is also my actual grandpa. Clear?" =:o] (I can imagine Ty catches a lot of the "explain it to your siblings, would you? We're too old..." in that household, being by far the oldest.)
So not a spoiler, but just an answer to your question that only long term Doctor fans could tell you, yes when a Time lord regenerates they usually change completely. USUALLY. However, they can Choose to keep the same appearance. David's speeech about being the man that never would makes it into every version of a top 5 best Doctor speeches on youtube, and seeing this episode reminds me why. love your reaction, looking forward to the next!
"However, they can Choose to keep the same appearance. " - Huh? Where's that come from? (When answering, please be careful to avoid spoilers for Jules. If you're thinking of a scene right at the start of a Dalek story, just say "you guessed right"; And then I can say "I think you're over-generalising from one unusual circumstance". =;o} )
@@therealpbristow you guessed right, but it also happened with the fifth Doctor as well, mid movie, he admitted he died and came back with the same face, so as to not confusse his companion.
The only real explanation and you did guess this is that she's a clone and not fully time lord in the way that he is so she can regenerate but not fully change.
I just realized that it's going into winter for you now. I don't think I've seen you so clothed, lol. P.S. If anyone still hasn't made a parody or fan video of Jenny's intro, they really need to. Even just: Jenny: Hello Dad slash Doctor slash Hubby. Doctor: What? Donna and Martha together: What?! Everyone else in the background: WHAT?!?!
HA! Yes, I do adore the winter time here! It's usually SO HOT so when it dips to 25c, then I will break out anything and everything with sleeves on it! It's exciting (to begin with haha)
Georgia Moffett, who played Jenny, became Georgia Tennant... And is the Mother of Ty Tennant, who is also a an actor, and who used to be Ty Moffett. Because his grandad is Peter Davison. Confused? Just watch the series "Staged". I'm sure it'll make everything... even more confusing. But in a really good way. =:o}
It's odd that the Doctor is such a massive hero to me, but I love it when he gets called out. Between Martha's morality and Donna's mouth, he doesn't stand a chance.

We know so little of his family that there'd been speculation as to whether or not Susan even really was his granddaughter.
He has mentioned being a father and grandfather and having once had a brother in New Who. Some of that this episode.
He does mention he had a son a few episodes back
His wife was called Patience, she gets mentioned in a few books and audio dramas. Not sure if she actually shows up though.
When I was a kid, I loved this show for the excitement and adventure. Now that I'm an adult, I love this show for the way it deals with topics like loss, and grief, and for the raw emotion David captures so well. He's such an underrated actor in my opinion.
He’s fantastic
The actress playing the doctors daughter here is actually related to the Doctor. She's the daughter of the 5th doctor Peter Davidson and here's the funny thing she's actually married to David Tennant. This was when the two first met and fell in love they started dating after this then married
Yeah, any other show and it'd be like; "...whaaait, what?" and it'd be a headscratcher, but for this show it's like: "...You know what? ...Makes sense enough."
@@TheZintastic wibbley wobbly timey wimey
Not actually related, but she shares the same last name as the 2nd showrunner for new-Who (albeit with a minor spelling difference, I believe).
@@JoeThornhillThere was actually a plan for Ace, a human, to apply to be a Time Lord until the series was canceled.
Isn't there a Big Finish series about the further adventures of Jenny?
She wasn't created on Gallifrey, though, so is she Gallifreyan?
@@simongiles9749 Yes, and Big Finish is bringing out a new set of adventures for her this year, also starring Georgia Tennant.
It was also lovely to see Martha being so kind to the Hath
She's so compassionate! A perfect doctor 💜
Kind? She literally convinces a Hath to come with her and it ends up dying. If it had just stayed put it'd have been fine
@@scarpergirl And how does convincing a Hath to go with her make her not kind? She's incredibly compassionate and kind and tries to help people/aliens just like the Doctor does. Pretty much like most companions after all. The Doctor doesn't pick greedy, not kind people to travel with him. Well, we won't mention what's his face from the 9th Doctor's travels.... lol
@@LordLOC because it wasn't necessary for the hath to go with her through a dangerous area and now it's dead

The twist of this generational war having been waged for a matter of days was mind-blowing when I first saw this episode. Fantastic storytelling.
Did they meet on the set of Hitchhiker's Guide?
"Ooh, who's that hunk playing the meal of the day?"
@@ninjabluefyre3815 No, long before that, on another popular British SF series, "The Tomorrow People". The story to search for is called "A Man for Emily". Peter had to fake his American accent; Sandra already had one! =:o]
Alas, by the time Peter was in Doctor Who, let alone HHGTHG, the marriage was already coming apart, and Sandra eventually returned to the US... but Peter seems to have done a decent enough job of solo-parenting Georgia. =;o}
Spot the famous person. This week the award goes to …
Joe Dempsie who plays Cline
Joe is known for playing Gendry in Game of Thrones and Chris Miles in Skins
Honourable mention to
Georgina Tennant who plays Jenny
She is also known for being David Tennant's wife and the daughter of Peter Davison, who has also played Dr Who
So she is, in real life, both the Doctor's daughter and the Doctor's wife
She is also the daughter of Sandra Dickinson who was Trillian in the 80’s TV series, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Let's not forget King Arthur himself, Nigel Terry.
She also was a producer on ‘Staged’ & ‘The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot’!
Just adore her & David!
Aaaah yes! 😂
The daughter of the Doctor who also became the wife of the Doctor after playing the daughter of the Doctor in The Doctor's Daughter. 😅
Just a little explaination. Jenny didn't regenerate but got fixed up by the Terraforming juice in the air. The Doctor said that it is for bringing life and that's what it basically did.
It probably only worked due to her time lord dna

That's interesting. I hadn't noticed a difference of color. Still, the fact that a sparkly exhalation appears _at all_ must indicate some connection to Time Lord biology. It was good to see Nigel Terry on screen, he played King Arthur in the film, Excalibur. Again, I enjoyed your reactions.
Accents and pronunciations are funny things 😅
Rachel, thank you SO much for your kind words!
Donna is my favourite so far. Honestly, it will be hard to beat her for me 💜
In the end, the Doctor’s daughter proves the phrase Like Father Like Daughter to be incredibly true. At the first instinct she could once she’d been restored, Jenny went “Fuck this shit, I’m *out!*” stole a space ship… and ran for the hills.
The first instinct she had once she was restored or the first instance she could once she was restored?
@@ChibiHoshiDragon Probably both?
Omg seeing your cat scramble up the shelves in the background at the start of the video cracked me up. How hard as it to not react? 😂

She didn't regenerate.
Its power of the source.
It was stated in an interview after.
Oh I've seen this one and liked it.
Oh the actor Nigel Terry played Prince John in The Lion in Winter and King Arthur in Excalibur. Great guest stars on British TV shows.
Nice send off for Dr Jones.
Ah yes. The episode that launched a thousand memes and jokes about The Doctor's/David Tenant's family tree ;)
‘Make the foundation of this society… a man who never would’
Best line of the season, fight me
BRILLIANT line!
Oooh Jack, thank you!! I am so glad to have another fellow Donna fan here. She's just wonderful 💜
the moment donna says you’re always talking but you never say anything is so important to me.
That is an awesome line!
I LOVE how much character and energy she put into the role of Jenny.
yesss, I also love her in Merlin! That episode was so much fun :D
This could have been such a great spin-off
Your cat is so clever - giving you the heads up about Jenny's acrobatics - with his acrocatic intro. Blep. And boy, does it get better.
Hehe!! He wanted to make sure that he was just as impressive 😅
@@julesreacts He is much more impressive; he did it for real!
I like the stars on what your wearing gives you a wizard vibe.
Jenny didn´t regenerated. It looks like that but it was the terraform that brought her back to life. Love Jenny!!!
Every Wednesday night is the best thanks Jules ❤
You're so welcome! Thank you 💜
Oh! I didn't know exactly when this one was coming, but I was looking forward to revisiting it!
There's a whole series of books and audio dramas around Jenny, if you want to know more of what happened.
Of course Moffat tried to keep a doc who character alive rather than accepting their passing xD

There is already a lot of comments talking about Jenny but to confirm yes she's the daughter of a past doctor and a wife to 10 which I just think is kinda funny.

I always thought that this episode provides Martha with a deeper understanding of what it means to be The Doctor.
She seems to have shifted her main focus from acting to producing. And as I quipped after "The 5-ish Doctors", "boy, does she produce!". =:o}

Steve! Thank you 💜 I never knew Doctor Who would be such an emotional journey but I love it!

Say Jules, did you know that Georgia Moffet, the actress who played Jenny... you know what, I have a feeling you're getting sick of hearing this by now. I'll assume that you already know. 😉
I will say though that if you want to see Georgia and David on-screen together, you should watch 'Staged', the show that David made with Michael Sheen over Zoom during lockdown.

Mrs Jules with another Dr Who episode!
They have 5 children.
Ah, the most Wibbly-Wobbly episode ever. :)
Jenny, or GI Jane - she made the episode truly unforgettable!
She's so good!!
The Doctor is father already and grandfather to Susan
Happy Wednesday night and an evening with Jules, Doctor and Donna
Enjoy 💜
To add more to what someone else said. She went to school with I think it was the 8th Doctor’s daughter
Hope in the future Jenny makes an appearance you never know 🫰
Here I am, finding myself feeling bad for a "fishman" who's been around for roughly only about 20 -ish minutes and whos only line more or less is, AND I QUOTE: "blblublblblblbulblub..."
...I'm not sure how EXACTLY it is that this is, but they found a way.
😭😭😭 this is what makes this show so good!
No spoilers here, but I do remember that, immediately after this episode aired, I desperately wanted the Doctor to run into his daughter again at some point, discover that she was alive, and have some true joy (and adventures!) with her, at least for a time. He deserves joy, and she deserves a dad. 🥰
I also share those wishes 💜
This is not a well regarded story in fandom. It's grown on me, but I think it needed more room to breathe, and would have worked better as a two-parter - that way we could have seen more of Martha with "her" Hath, and then it's sacrifice could have hit harder. It just feels very rushed. But still thoroughly enjoyable, mind!
See the Doctor’s granddaughter in series one with the first doctor...
One of my top 5 favorite episodes. It was so disappointing that Jenny was not able to travel with the Doctor. Shortly after meeting, David Tennent and Georgia (Jenny) married and have two or three kids now. Georgia's father was the 5th Doctor, Pete Davidson, who was David's favorite Doctor.
but Her name is Georgia....
If the Tennant children ever watch their dad's work, I guess they have to skip this one or it might confuse the family dynamics!
Heh! That's a thought... =:oD
But then, they also have to get used to Daddy and Grandpa being supposedly the same person... Slightly easier for Ty than the younger kids, at least: "My adopted father is also my actual grandpa. Clear?" =:o]
(I can imagine Ty catches a lot of the "explain it to your siblings, would you?
@@CharlieHiber Do you have a link to whatever story/"movie" you're talking about?
no, the only time I saw it was on vhs@@therealpbristow
RTD joked that Jenny crushed and died on a moon. Has far as he is concerned Jenny is dead.
Makes one wonder why he bothered to bring her back to life and didn't just leave her dead?
@@noneya3635
Stephen Moffat stepped in and convicted him not to kill her off.
@@rangerzickle3350 I can see that, more to say on that subject but we need to let J-Bird get further into the series so as not to spoil stuff.
Even just:
Jenny: Hello Dad slash Doctor slash Hubby.
@@julesreacts 25c for more than 5 days is a British heatwave lol.
Well, considering that David Tennant married the actress Georgia Moffet, yeah we do see them together again
Georgia Moffett, who played Jenny, became Georgia Tennant... And is the Mother of Ty Tennant, who is also a an actor, and who used to be Ty Moffett. Because his grandad is Peter Davison.
Confused?
Just watch the series "Staged". I'm sure it'll make everything... even more confusing. But in a really good way. =:o}
And the great thing is, if you watched "Staged" you also get to see Michael Sheen with a lovely beard! And Judi Dench swearing at you.
@@paulhammond6978 [NODS] Both excellent selling points! =:o}
It's odd that the Doctor is such a massive hero to me, but I love it when he gets called out. Between Martha's morality and Donna's mouth, he doesn't stand a chance.
HA! Yes, exactly. Love it!
"Between Martha's morality and Donna's mouth, he doesn't stand a chance."
QUOTE OF THE CENTURY! =:o]
