The fact that this channel is still this small is insane. Found you, maybe weirdly enough, through your video on speedrunning, but have stayed for these rather fun and nuanced game retrospectives/reviews. Keep up the good work, loved it all so far!

Personally was a big fan of the silent protagonist in this game. The story for me moved at an appropriate pace, and i think with the being essentially coded to obey and the other experiemnts being conducted on us, the silence from jack makes a lot of sense!
Completely agree on the ending though. I remember on my first playthrough in my early teens harvesting one little sister by accident but thinking "this wont be that bad". It was that bad. Its either wholesome or destroy the world, neutrality or forgiveness dont exist.

Really cool video. I always liked this game and I’ll only say the remaster lost a few kinda key mechanics, which is the only thing I like about the old version better. Stuff like the fireball used to stop splicers from firing back and how they no longer stop to look for health stations. It just changes a lot.

Yeah the game holds up like Rapture's walls.
You can see the flaws here and there but atmosphere trumps it all.
I still listen to the soundtrack now and then 🎶

All you need to know is that I don't like single player games, but was blown away by the demo and bought it on release. It was simply amazing.

    A few notes:
    - You are supposed to use guns and plasmids simultaneously. The guns *are* underpowered if you do not use the Plasmids to augment that. Yes, I know you complained about the lack of dual-wielding, but as someone who has played this game ad-nauseaum, it is more than doable, if you put your mind to it. It is not handicapping to any serious degree.
The footage of you using just the revolver to fight two Splicers.... kind of hurts to watch, I'll be honest. (The game does not remind you of the one-two punch from the word go for nothing).
    - Jack was 4 years old specifically because he grows extremely fast due to the experiments done on him. The point of it was that Fontaine wanted to use Jack as soon as possible.
    - Audio Diaries are optional insofar as you can choose not to press a single button as soon as you pick them up. Most relevant diaries are in open locations, and if you *choose* not to pick them up after realising they are an important tool for world-building, I cannot help ya.
    - There are three endings, Good, Bad, and Neutral. It seems you didn't realise this or didn't care to mention it. The differences are slight, but they exist.
    - I think the point about needing to fight the Daddies refers to the fact that unless you do that, you are not going to get very far in the game. You need the ADAM to upgrade. (Yes, I am aware there are likely people who do skip the Daddies entirely.)
Overall, I agree with you on the latter half being kind of meh. Fetch quests are not my cup of tea, and the boss fight was really naff. Especially the escort mission drives me up a wall sometimes (and Bioshock 2 is one of my favourite games...) after all that 'go here, get this' deal.
Overall, I get your points, but some issues seem to be man-made on your end so to speak. (Also, I would argue that playing the remaster makes this game not from 2007 anymore, at least as far as the textures/art goes, but that is nitpicking). I appreciate that you are not coming in to the series with nostalgia, though, despite what some people seem to think.

I'll have to go back and try the bonus damage from plasmids again. I think early on it felt more efficient to shoot them as often as possible rather than stopping to get the damage bonus, but maybe that was just something my goopy gamer goblin brain imagined lol
I can see why the footage of me only using the revolver would probably hurt to watch for a fan of the series, given what we just talked about, but also I mean come on...6 shots to do 3/4 of their health? on a normal enemy? it'd take 3 to kill them with the wrench, I feel like more than double with the revolver is kind of crazy
I did see the neutral ending, but I felt that it wasn't really worth covering since it's essentially just the bad ending with a different tone
I do think the point on fighting Big Daddies is probably what they meant, but there was no reason given for their statement. They just said that the game was "designed to force you to fight these things", which yes while it'll be hard to get through if you don't, it isn't designed to FORCE you to per say.
This point on playing remaster is honestly fair. I was more focused on the viewing experience than anything. Maybe when I do Bioshock 2 I'll playthrough both and make some notes on the visual differences for the video!
I appreciate the feedback, means a lot!

@@flaaphy Thanks for taking my criticism into account!
Yeah, I think the low damage is intentional to facilitate use of the Plasmids. I personally also think using Plasmids and weapons (wrench or otherwise) is a lot more fun than just shooting point blank at the enemies! I do believe there is an upgrade specifically for the wrench to make it ... well, a lil bit op.
Did you use the upgrade stations for your weapons? I don't think you brought them up in your review here, unless I already forgot. The pistol gets a 25% damage buff plus a quadrupled clip size, that might be useful if you want to use the weapons without plasmids.
Yeah that is fair, it is kind of very 'oh shit we need a neutral ending' shoved in there, I see your point.
The wording is not the best, I guess that was what they meant. Or rather that is what I hope they meant. I think there is at least one playthrough on youtube where someone completely skipped out on the Big Daddies (plus, ya know. Speedruns.) and still beat the game. Not sure if that is the sort of measure a first time player can live up to, though. I know I wouldn't have been able to.
I know when the Remaster was released, there was a lot of complaining about visual issues (one thing I remember is the conveyor belt being messed up in some way) so part of my worry would be that you played through a version of the game that is worse than what came out originally.
