Straight up passion for our sport!!!!! Great video and some solid tips. I totally appreciate your knowledge and experience, the time that you take in each video to teach us bass fishing fools. Awesome keep the videos coming.
I used to religiously follow like 5-8 fishing RUclips channels for fishing and watch all their videos but right now it's pretty much just you guys. Thanks for the great content and for presenting it in what is generally a clear and concise manner.
Hey Matt and Tim, I just want to say thank you guys for all the tips and great advice you are putting out there. I've been watching your videos for about a year and a half and they have made me a truly better angler. Just caught my first true giant(for Idaho standards) thanks to you guys. Keep up the good work! Love the vids!
Bought my first HUD 68 and the trash fish because of you guys and cant wait to try it out. I'd love the opportunity to just go out for the day and watch you and Tim get it done. There's so much I've learned its amazing. Keep it up guys yall are my favorite to watch. Thank you
DUDE,, I could watch and listen to your guys stories for ever,, You guys are just AWESOME.. and again thank you so much for the knowledge that you are giving us.. Just outstanding!!!
Awesome. Unrelated, but i am starting to gain confidence in all types of jig fishing because of you guys. Your guy's channel is legitimately making me a better fisherman. Keep up the great work! Thinking of buying my first trash fish soon. Thanks guys!!!
I respect this man a whole lot out of every one who does fishing on thier channel hes beem the same sense hew began making videos an hasntb changed up or held info he literally shows you an tells you ive spent count less hours learning unlike all the other RUclips fisherman who slowly viewe off
Awesome video Matt!! I’m a newer subscriber, over the last few months. I love the knowledge you and Tim give to us, you guys are some of the best to do it and to share that knowledge and those experiences with some of us small time anglers is just awesome. I learn something every time I watch a video. I appreciate it guys!!
Loved that teaser in the beginning.. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS BOX ! Never seen on youtube. I bet this video got some really good audience retention just for that. Great job
Matt and tim yall are wicked awesome at tha amount of work/experimenting yall do to figure out what works best, that kind of knowledge takes extreme effort and time and then yall put in way more work making tha best ever bass fishing videos and educating us with tha many years of success yall have accomplished on bass and man I could just keep going on about how impressed and how I just pray i can become half tha fisherman yall have!! Thank you and tim both..yall are the best and I firmly believe that...
I think this is the best channel on RUclips if you really want to learn about fishing love your stuff man (p.s. the the savage gear 3D shine glide is a great shad/hitch presentation I think you’ll like)
Loved the video man! Been saying it for a while. You guys are the best on RUclips or tv for that matter. Love to see videos like this with other baits as well. Keep up the good work!!
My first ever jointed swim was a Gan Craft , I lost it rather quickly not using proper gear back in the day.... but it taught me a valuable lesson... the S Waver and even Bass Pro Shops version both honestly look just as good in the water for a fraction of the price
You are the king!! How could their a better fisherman? The best fishermen goes out catches the giants yeah but the best of the best is a great teacher. I enjoyed the video!
That trash fish is fire 🔥🔥🔥. If your thinking about throwing some larger swim baits this year but are thinking..."man those are kind of big" or I don't have trout in my fishery etc etc. I was the same way...get you a trash fish, I'm telling ya 🔥 🔥 🔥. I throw the 6" and 8" I have had 3lbers whoof that thing! Get ya a trash fish and give it a try! You can barely creep that thing and still get some tail action . I'm not a swimbait pro ,the man I'm this video is the pro! I just know as a recreational fisherman I fish 3-4 times a week. The big baits work no matter how big your fish are. It's amazing...whole new world.
Keep them coming! Sorry if its been covered, but what knot do you use to attach your leader to braid? I'd really hate to lose a hudd or a new pb due to my knot failing.
Thanks alot you guys. I have learned alot from you and I enjoy watching your videos. I always learn something. Do you have any videos like this about topwater or just frogs?
I was wondering if you guys knew anything about the Matzuo Doragon Minnow. I just bought 2 different sizes, but I can't find any info on rigging them up. Gonna check out more of your swimbait videos in the meantime. Good luck and tight lines, fellas!
Thanks again for another very informative video. I live in Stockton, CA and have had my tackle box stolen twice in the past months and now my only pole also, I live on 6hundred dollars a month SSD. Man it sucks ☹️ those of you who have had their rods and tackle box stolen it hurts.its going to take me 6months just to save enough money for a rod. Lures&jigs forget it all I'm asking is please let viewers know not to buy stolen gear
Hey guys love the video. I was wondering what kind of swimbaits work from shore. I dont think throwing a massive one would be super effective. Am i wrong. Also any reccomendations on how to bass fish from a float tube only ever fished for trout in mine. Any help is appreciated.
Great video thanks and great stories I will give these baits a try for sure I just started growing more swim baits but I intend on doing it even more especially the bigger baits
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! i learned so much from this video and truly enjoyed watching it and definitely watch it again!!!!!! Best Channel!!!!!
First off, thank you for all your videos. I am newer to bass fishing and fishing in general so your videos are a huge help. I watch everyone. My question is, I live in Minnesota and if you know anything about our lakes is we have a lot of toothy fish (pike & muskie) my fear throwing big swim baits is those fish, they tear your baits up and large baits tend to target those fish. Is that just the nature of the beast or are there thing I can do to help avoid them like structure and certain areas of a lake to target?
I fish relatively small lakes in Indiana...Cordry - Sweetwater if you care to look them up. These lakes are private and within a half hour of my home. It seems over the years, the Large Mouth Bass population has declined. It used to be that my partner and I could regularly catch fish in the 5 lb range. My PB is a 6 1/2 pounder. These days, I feel lucky if I can catch a 3 pounder. Some of the baits you use are bigger than the fish we catch. This year has been particularly bad. I believe there have to be a few 10 pounders left but in the last two years, my best catch was a 3 pounder. Many times we have spent 8 hours on the lake either getting skunked or only catching a few small ones. I am envious of you for having such great lakes to fish. I love your videos.
Chuck Barnett As a fellow Hoosier, I know the struggle. I'm up in Porter County and the fishing up here is GARBAGE! I often travel out of state to do my fishing, simply because NWI is absolute trash for fishing.
Sorry to hear that Chuck. However, you might be amazed what happens if you spent a day throwing a GIANT swimbait just below the surface. If there are big ones left they'll rise up and show themselves. Its possible you've just conditioned them over time and are now seeing the result, its also possible they're just gone. Slinging that big bait will give you the answer in one day.
Thanks for the tip Matt. Although I am reluctant, I might just have to try a giant swimbait. Maybe these fish will be turned on by something they haven't seen before. I've already spent thousands on tackle trying to catch fish...another $25 won't be that big of deal. Again, thanks for your videos. I really appreciate what you guys do.
They're deadly. But even if the bass won't eat them, they'll rise to look because the bait has such strong drawing power. You're literally going to see the biggest fish in the lake and then can begin fishing for them with the swimbait or other baits as you see fit. But for $25 its a cheap way to see what's really down there.
Steven Rea - We have Monroe Reservoir, Patoka, Brookville in my area but I am lazy. I don't want to have to travel 2+ hours each way for a day of fishing. As I've always said, "If you are in Indiana, you are only 4 hours away from something good."
I know that the loomis 956 is not a jig hook rod rather a large treble hooked rod and the dobyns 807 would be the best jig hooked rod but would a 956 have the right action for the jig hooked huddleston and would you throw a ten inch hudd on it?
This is my first year to throw the smaller soft paddle tail swim baits, it's kinda like getting your first weedeater. What did I do before I got them. I have caught about a hundred bass on the smaller baits with the belly weighted hook
Looking for recommendations, getting my first Huddleston. Going with the 68 weedless as we have a lot of grass in our lakes. Would you get the ROF 5 or 12 first?
Any experience with DRT? Like the K9 or tiny klash? I have a couple that ive just started throwing. Ive always been more about soft baits like the hudd or burrito baits shad.
Love this video! It was awesome to see that last box. Appreciate you taking the time to show us your personal baits. So that we can get an idea. Q: What's the action and power of the rod you use for those J hook baits?
***ONLY ONE*** Great vid, Matt. But what if you could only choose one? I know that's a loaded question and different conditions solicit different baits. But so many of us are primarily shore anglers. When that's the case, we don't have the option of boxes of large baits. So if you HAD to choose only a single swimbait to use forever, what would it be?
Great video Matt! I'm really really interested in getting into throwing big swimbaits and these recent videos have been a super helpful. Also would the loomis 956 be a good all around rod for swimbaiting?
Yeah, great video here :) Was a fun one to watch I posted a video of the first day I got my swimbait rod and reel and my first Huddleston...that day I went out and stuck a bunch ranging from 2lb to over 4lb, and even lost probably a 6-8lb. All caught on video, in my uploads. It was a fun day, but mannn was it storming out. If you care to check it's titled; "First Swimbait Bass"
It’s crazy seeing you in a short sleeve shirt , keep covered man we need that video in 2031 when our RUclips is in a micro chip behind our eyeballs and a new swimbait comes out that free spools to where the largest fish is lol
I love your work and again, I'm one of your biggest fans but, here's the thing, I always use a medium heavy rod for everything, even swimbaits. But I wanted to ask you, what's the best rod size for a big swimbait?
If there was anyway that you could do a full video of underwater hudd fish catches 😱 I know about the video where the big female ate the 10" hudd, but maybe another video of how to fish the hudd, with fish catches incorporated? I really wanna catch my first hudd fish, and I hope I can this December for my bday lol
I'm thinking of ordering a Gantarel jr and a river to sea s waver 168. I already have a Huddleston 68 weedless and a tophook huddgill. I'm thinking after the Gantarel and S waver I should be good on swimbaits. Would you recommend any others? Or maybe substitutes to the S waver or Gantarel?
i have a few s-wavers and they dont work correctly out of the package. ive had to file down the side in order for them to work right. do you guys modify your s-wavers at all
Next time you get a 1-2lb smallmouth or spotted bass on an 8" hudd could you post a picture?(probably follow on twitter or maybe get instagram just for you guys. I don't mess w/ fb) I've been learning about swimbaits through your channel, but have yet to pick it up because all of what I consider local (30min-ish drive) have mostly small fish. Seeing that I'd decide to pick it up. Out of context question, why are you using your Ultrex instead of Talons to make videos? Don't you want to save that battery for fishing?
With a one-take video its safer to run the Ultrex. I'd hate to be 20 minutes in and have an unexpected boat wake require an adjustment! Its minimal battery use anyway.
Hey Matt would a Dobyns 867 be good for treble hook baits as well as Hudds? I know it's a 7 power but I've heard the tip and action are soft enough for treble hook baits. Looking to add a second rod to my big bait arsenal (currently throwing a 795). Thanks for another great video!
Yes we fish all over California and are branching out to the South, Midwest, and East Coast. Between the two of us, we’ve caught double digit bass in 16 different lakes. Absolutely they work everywhere!
TacticalBassin Nice!! I'm still trying to figure out what works in my large Florida pond but I will definitely pick up at least one 6-8 inch Hudson or some other swim bait to see if it works (weedless of course). Thanks for the quick response. ***Subscribed***

Loved seeing the joy in your face as you went through the retired box. That is a sign of someone who enjoys their fishing.
Hey Matt and Tim, I just want to say thank you guys for all the tips and great advice you are putting out there. I've been watching your videos for about a year and a half and they have made me a truly better angler. Just caught my first true giant(for Idaho standards) thanks to you guys. Keep up the good work! good video Matt of actual used swimbaits..but man I can't help but be mesmerized by that ultrex doing its thing in the background
Ha! That thing is SWEET!!
Ditto with joeyB!
Bought my first HUD 68 and the trash fish because of you guys and cant wait to try it out. I'd love the opportunity to just go out for the day and watch you and Tim get it done. There's so much I've learned its amazing. Keep it up guys yall are my favorite to watch. Thank you

No wonder the hudds are always out of stock
LOL, right?
@andy pincince I'd imagine they are a tax write off for his guide business. Just the cost of doing business.
Awesome video Matt!! I’m a newer subscriber, over the last few months. I love the knowledge you and Tim give to us, you guys are some of the best to do it and to share that knowledge and those experiences with some of us small time anglers is just awesome. One of my favorite swimbait videos since the old school swimbait videos. Amazing content guys! This one was awesome.
Thanks Bud!
Loved that teaser in the beginning.. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS BOX ! Never seen on youtube. I bet this video got some really good audience retention just for that. Great job
Best Fishing Channel, Thanks!! So excited to try to get on a big swim bait fish this year!!

Best 2017 video thus far. If that doesn't give you confidence, I don't know what will. Awesome job!
Thanks Matt!
I think this is the best channel on RUclips if you really want to learn about fishing love your stuff man (p.s. the the savage gear 3D shine glide is a great shad/hitch presentation I think you’ll like)

Nothing better than some mojo'ed baits! Such a massive amount of respect for you guys!
My first ever jointed swim was a Gan Craft , I lost it rather quickly not using proper gear back in the day.... but it taught me a valuable lesson... the S Waver and even Bass Pro Shops version both honestly look just as good in the water for a fraction of the price
You can tell that you really put forth the effort to utilize all the baits ! And see how they will do .
We do our best, thank you for noticing.
Thanks for the all info guys. Love how you guys always leave links in the description box.
Hat looking salty.... that’s how I know my man been putting work in. Keep it up slayed em in MS, today on a LV500! Thanks for all you do!
Awesome display of swimbaits and the history behind them, I will remember the tips thank you for the video.
Jeeze! How did I NOT connect the "Warden Hitch" with Timmy? Duh! Going thru your Swimbait box with you was a real treat, Matt.
Best fishing channel on RUclips. Thanks Matt
Man, I'm glad your hats all look like mine. Combo of sweat and sun, really does a number on them.

You guys are great. Thank you for being so informative.
God is good
Great video. Have you discussed color to use , when, and why? Can you provide link?
You are the king!! How could their a better fisherman? The best fishermen goes out catches the giants yeah but the best of the best is a great teacher. I enjoyed the video!
I love every video you guys post!! I've learned a ton from the website and the channel!! Thanks for helping.
Yes! What I've been waiting on!! Thanks! More swimbait videos please! Keep them coming.

Thanks Victor!
Love the stories love the history can't wait to set my own stones
I can not afford to buy one but that was my top 10 fishing videos great job dude
I love these vids, proof that this is what you guys use and this is how you use it.
Thanks Kevin!
Have you ever fished with the Savage Gear swimbaits? Price and look wise, they are very appealing.

Awesome video. Wish I could stick the fish like you guys do. One day the fish will come!
Great video thanks and great stories I will give these baits a try for sure I just started growing more swim baits but I intend on doing it even more especially the bigger baits
Awesome video! Will the 807 handle the 10 inch hudds in a pinch?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! i learned so much from this video and truly enjoyed watching it and definitely watch it again!!!!!! Best Channel!!!!!
I love this swimbait stuff! Keep it up. And do a video on how to rig the trash fish with the jig hook
Its coming :-)

I know that the loomis 956 is not a jig hook rod rather a large treble hooked rod and the dobyns 807 would be the best jig hooked rod but would a 956 have the right action for the jig hooked huddleston and would you throw a ten inch hudd on it?
SUCH a dope vid Love hearing from the GOAT of the swimbait game. Keep it up boys
The 8in weedless hudd is available from their website in rof5 and rof12 right now, I ordered one in rof5 before they sell out lol
What rod and reel would you recommend to throw smaller swimbaits? Things like a 168 s waver or a Jackall Giron.
Youre the reason I even went a bought the s-waver this year, now its tied on at all times!
Yeah buddy!!!
Love these videos! Best information and tips on RUclips by far!
Thank you Matt for this info,,, Been trying to find my favorites,,, To many to choose from!!!
This is my first year to throw the smaller soft paddle tail swim baits, it's kinda like getting your first weedeater. What did I do before I got them. I have caught about a hundred bass on the smaller baits with the belly weighted hook
Awesome!!!
Can you make a video on how to rig up the big plastic swim baits?
Matt did or do you throw any of the 3:16 swimbaits and triple trouts?
Your channel helped me so much and is still helping me from when I first started thanks alot
What would be the best color S-Waver to replicate both stocked rainbow trout and alewives (herring)?
Love this video! It was awesome to see that last box. Appreciate you taking the time to show us your personal baits.
So that we can get an idea.
Q: What's the action and power of the rod you use for those J hook baits?
Awesome! thanks for sharing a view into the vault!
Any time!
So you use Huddleston trouts.but have you ever used a Huddleston shad because the bass in my lake slam them
Can you post the model # of the box you were using for your huds please? I like that style.
Hi Matt how come you don't have any black swim baits or spike it dyed black for night fishing
Great video Matt! I'm really really interested in getting into throwing big swimbaits and these recent videos have been a super helpful. Also would the loomis 956 be a good all around rod for swimbaiting?
That is a TERRIFIC swimbait rod! I LOVE it but they've been discontinued for a revamp and aren't widely available now.
Yeah, great video here :) Was a fun one to watch
I posted a video of the first day I got my swimbait rod and reel and my first Huddleston...that day I went out and stuck a bunch ranging from 2lb to over 4lb, and even lost probably a 6-8lb. All caught on video, in my uploads. It was a fun day, but mannn was it storming out.
If you care to check it's titled; "First Swimbait Bass"
Have you tried the new Clearlake special color yet?
It’s crazy seeing you in a short sleeve shirt , keep covered man we need that video in 2031 when our RUclips is in a micro chip behind our eyeballs and a new swimbait comes out that free spools to where the largest fish is lol
I love your videos. I wish you would have gave all the names of swimbaits in 2nd half of video. I can't tell which one you are talking.
I love your work and again, I'm one of your biggest fans but, here's the thing, I always use a medium heavy rod for everything, even swimbaits. But I wanted to ask you, what's the best rod size for a big swimbait?
You want a longer rod, minimum 7'9" and ideally an 8 footer, assuming we're talking about BIG swimbaits like what is in the video.
TacticalBassin Yes, same as in the video but, is medium heavy ok? I'll keep in touch with you as well if I have anymore questions. You're a big help.
I own a a couple swimbaits and a glide bait and honestly don't have much confidence in either.... Which one should I be focusing on first?
If there was anyway that you could do a full video of underwater hudd fish catches 😱 I know about the video where the big female ate the 10" hudd, but maybe another video of how to fish the hudd, with fish catches incorporated? I really wanna catch my first hudd fish, and I hope I can this December for my bday lol
Have you ever tried the Matt lures Hardgill? i cannot not find any good reviews on it and it is hard to spend $75+ on a bait with no information
Hey what size bull gill would you recommend for Alabama pond bass
I'm thinking of ordering a Gantarel jr and a river to sea s waver 168. I already have a Huddleston 68 weedless and a tophook huddgill. I'm thinking after the Gantarel and S waver I should be good on swimbaits. Would you recommend any others? Or maybe substitutes to the S waver or Gantarel?
I have quite a bit of weeds were i live. should i get a weedless or top hook hudd? Because i dont want to miss fish whichever is better
I just found the 68 in that darker blue, how long of a leader off my 65lb should I use? I have 20lb floro, and 25lb mono, which should I use?
Could you do a River2Sea vs bass pro shops XPS glide bait video?
i have a few s-wavers and they dont work correctly out of the package. ive had to file down the side in order for them to work right. do you guys modify your s-wavers at all
Next time you get a 1-2lb smallmouth or spotted bass on an 8" hudd could you post a picture?(probably follow on twitter or maybe get instagram just for you guys.
Yes that's a great in-between rod that is pretty good at both.
TacticalBassin awesome! Thank you for the reply! You guys rock!
Hey Matt I'm just getting into the swimbait game I have a Huddleston 68 what glide bait should I get
Definitely start with the S-Waver 168. Its inexpensive and deadly.
S waver is the king of beginner glide bait s
I've got Calcutta ( round) is that a swim bait reel ? Lake Cumberland in Kentucky used to have abundant trout.
+Zane Tibet That's a swimbait reel for sure
How's the hook up with those weedless swimbaits great video 👍👍👍👍
Surprisingly solid. Its not 100% but they hook up
Whats your biggest and heaviest bait (you said in one of your videos you had a 22 oz bait)?
Do you guys fish anything besides Clear Lake? If you do, are your catches as big? Does the big baits work on most lakes you fish?
Yes we fish all over California and are branching out to the South, Midwest, and East Coast. Between the two of us, we’ve caught double digit bass in 16 different lakes. Absolutely they work everywhere!
TacticalBassin Nice!! I'm still trying to figure out what works in my large Florida pond but I will definitely pick up at least one 6-8 inch Hudson or some other swim bait to see if it works (weedless of course). Thanks for the quick response. ***Subscribed***
