  • Terceira is one of nine islands that makes up the Azores archipelago 900 miles off the coast of Lisbon in Portugal. It is one of the larger Portuguese islands with plenty to see and do. Don't miss scenic views at Serra do Cume, Praia da Vitoria, and Aqualva, to name a view. Drive through charming small towns and explore all along the coast. Visit caves, beaches, and museums as you discover this gem in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. And be sure to taste the best of Azorean cuisine on the island of Terceira! It truly is a magical island vacation destination!

Spent a week there about ten years ago. Fantastic people! So friendly. I was attending my niece's retirement from the Air Force at Lajes AFB. I can only compare it to Coronado, CA.
Tropical, peaceful, and quaint. More country than city. Great experience.

I left the island with my mother bound for America when I was not even 2 years old. . .so being away for over 45 years I had no idea what I would see. .let alone remember. But it was a memorable time as I posted some videos of my time there on my channel. Loved the bullfights in the street. Nice to see the place me and my family where stationed back in the late 80's. A bueatful place to raise a family. I was there for three years. At that time you had to stay off base because there was not enough housing, they starting building just before we got there. It took a year on a list. If you look at the South, East conner of base housing, conner of the fence there is a small dirt road that follows the fence outside the base. We lived in one of the few houses over in that corner near a cliff. On the south side if the base were cottages, we were able to buy one. We paid $7000 for it, but couldn't own the land, we had to pay monthly for it, like rent...$20 dollers! I was a aircraft electrician so we got to go all over the flight line, not many rules back then. We fished off the north side of the runway...big fish!
At one time many GI's lost their life falling off cliffs that the military would charge you with a article 15 if you stood within 15 feet of any cliff.
We miss that place so much we want to go back. Thanks for the video that place is a hidden jewel!!
