Renovation of an antique German pencil sharpener

  • This time I'm going to #renew a #German #pencil #sharpener from the beginning of the 20th century. I've been looking for this piece at our #auctions for a long time. Basically, I didn't want to renew it because it still has its charm in this condition, but over time I decided otherwise. I spent a lot of time finding a point where they deal with graphics transferred on a transport foil. Unfortunately, none of the factories wanted to take the order because the inscriptions were too small and the technology in which similar orders are made did not give satisfactory results. I had to use the decal technique, which, as it turned out, also looks satisfactory. Another challenge was finding the right font, which would seem like a fairly simple task these days. I also made a new wooden base because the old one warped a bit. The varnish that was used for painting with the gun is RAL 9005 covered with a colorless one. I wanted to buy a new blade, but the prices of original elements are staggering and not available. Working on refusing this device is pure pleasure due to its small size and precision of workmanship. Thank you and see you next video.

Very beautiful machine!, exquisite restoration! Probably the most complex pencil sharpener ever conceived. Thank you!❤

You did a fantastic job on the restoration - especially on the decals! Hard to believe all that engineering went into something to sharpen pencils!

First thing is I'm going to complain. I hated that you remover the japanning to replace it with paint that still have the orange peel look because it wasn't sanded down and there wasn't anything wrong with the plank of wood that only needed to be planned or sanded down to make it level and replaced with one that's has the pith in it that already had a crack and will do nothing but get bigger with time. And that's why you should never use wood with the pith!! With your lettering would have looked better if you would have trimmed it closer to the letters Other than that,,, HAHAHAHAHA It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!
I still enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

Marvelous job restoring the German pencil sharpener. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work as usual.

    Hi,
You made such a nice and good work on the Jupiter pencil pointer.
I am working or repairing and refurbishment of 2 units of Jupiter 2.
May it be possible that you share your decal designs please so I can use them?
    Thanks a million and regards!

Unfortunately there is a mistake in the decal on the dust container.
Toni’s supposed to be „roten Löcher“ not „roten Lëcher“ the „ë“ does not exist in German.
It means „every week a drop of oil into the red holes and wipe clean“ BTW…😊

Nice, but how many pencils do you have to sharpen before cost recovery? Granted a lot of romance has gone by the wayside in this world, but the guy who came up with the mechanical pencil deserves praise from heavy users. And, of course, the guy who came up with these indispensable things we call "erasers" 👨‍🎓.

I feel ashamed of others when such an interesting object falls into the hands of those who think they know how to make it...
It removes the original wood to put in a cracked one, paints it horrible, doesn't sand the metal... Regrettable!

Such a mess! You had a pure beauty from the past, full of charm but what did you do!!!! you just killed this very old sharpener! Pfff, please avoid "restoring" memories from the past as much as you can...

He bought it, that means he gets to do whatever he wants to it, and if he wants to restore it and make it look good that's this choice not yours, if you bought one you can keep it as shitty as you want, simple as that

Didn't want to destroy the charm, but you did. Another antique destroyed in the name of "renovation". Thumbs down for this.

I was inspired to do a similar restoration. Mostly duplicating his efforts. It came out beautifully, and my wife was thrilled to receive it. Lots of smiles. Just wanted to mention this so your head might explode.
