Is Lemuria a real place, or the fever dream of crackpots, mystics, conspiracy theorists, and Bigfoot hunters?
What began as a theoretical land bridge to explain the mystery of lemurs on Madagascar quickly got hijacked to become the evolutionary home of humankind, the cradle of spirituality, and then the source of cosmological wonders.
Abandoned by science as hokum, Lemuria morphed into a land filled with ancient, advanced civilizations, hollowed-out mountains full of gold and crystals, moon-beings descending in baskets, underground evil creatures, and a breast-feeding Bigfoot.
Justin McHenry provides a thoughtful exploration of how pseudo-science hijacked the gentle Victorian-era concept of Lemuria and, in following decades, twisted it into an all-encompassing home for alternative ideas about race, spirituality, science, politics, and the paranormal.
Justin McHenry is a writer, historian, and archivist. His new book is Lemuria: A True Story of a Fake Place.

Lots of science fiction and fantasy inspired by these ideas. I liked George Pal's movie Atlantis the Lost Continent when I was a boy.

Not sure if the book covers it but Lemuria has had influence on ethnic nationalism in South India. For the Dravidian nationalists it became the mystical original home of their master race (and language) from which all others in the world originated. See en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumari_Kandam

The Egyptians were not black. They were indigenous to North Africa, not sub Sahara Africa.

Sorry I am late to the discussion, but there absolutely nothing in our folklore about your human idea of Lemuria. To us what you call Madagascar is and always has been Lemuria.
As for humans evolving here, no effing way. Our foundation myths speak about what a paradise it was before the big hairless apes arrived.

Pseudo archeologists living in 4024 who chat with me using quantum gravity wave conjugation collapsing are sure that Middle-Earth was a real place and ask me question about the technology of the Ancient Hobbits. I am unsuccessfully trying to explain to them that Middle-Earth in only a fiction.

So another words. Lemuria is like a semi not unreal non peer reviewed Jurrasic Park hypothesis? Facinating. This really improves my understanding of all things not relavant. Cool story bro!

Glen A. Larson referred to this in the 1st Battlestar Galactica series. He was into all that pseudo history. 😂😂😂

Glen was also from a Mormon background. So he built some of that into Galactica too.

I grew up with people who, sadly, treated this nonsense as fact (as well as Atlantic, and Agartha and the Hercobulus) It's not just incredible that flimflam men can sell these stories; it's insane that so many people want to believe them.

    Lemuria is Madagascar
    Just look at the name.
    The land of the Lemur.
And there is an ancient civilization under that jungle.
    LIDAR is mapping it out.

joseph campbell was a meditator? and his stories about the ancients who flayed and ate the body of the king or queen are all made up? well, that is all new to me. where can I find these meditator myths in his writings? now you're going to tell me that ancient civilizations didn't make the bull or cow their gods. or that the magi weren't magicians, or the ancients didn't use drugs. farmers and people who lived off the land directly didn't make beer, mead, or eat a mushroom, or root or shell fish? my world is destroyed once again.

Man, u try taking a video of a tiny UFO with a modern iphone xD I think the argument that we should have better video of UFOs is ridiculous. Nothing looks good when its tiny and flying by. Not planes, not bugs, not stars. And UFOs are rare enough you cant get a better picture than you can of a flying plane. If u didnt know what a plane was, a phone pic of it in the sky wouldnt help you either.
