You're a genius. I have to do the same thing. Didn't know I could just take out the lock set. Not looking forward to doing this but less mysterious now thanks to you sharing your time and experiences. Thanks a lot.
appreciate the help! On the road so had very little tools but thanks to your video i pulled it off with just a table knife, 10mm socket + extension and philips screwdriver. Ended up using just half of the tumblers, great idea! Also thanks for informing that the passanger side lock isnt interchangeable, that was my original plan too.
Zeeezus! what joke getting this service done is, guys from Honda must be laughing just imagining us trying to put that clip back on. So as the guys from the body shop. Thanks for the tips, specially on using a socket to pop the lock in to make it possible to put the clip back. In my case was even more fun as i forgot to write down the position of each plate that goes inside the barrel. Felt like a true locksmith figuring out the right order :D
2y later and we are here again, doing the same fun job .. I might try to install a remote control soon in order to try prolonging the life of lock and hopefully make it last longer until I have to this again
I used a precision flathead screwdriver, pushed hard on the clip from between the gap. The clip slid down just enough for the cylinder to come loose. Worked like a charm👍
Thanks the retainer clip was a good reminder cause I am trying to swap doors and got no key for one of them. I forget I had a honda I worked on the door handle issue with the I had to remove those clips Will look 4 that spring and retainer clip tomorrow.
Haha, only everyone on RUclips. :D I've just gone through the exact same process, including leaving out one badly worn pin. I was wondering what that clip was for - I found it kicking around inside the door (someone had worked on the lock before me). Thanks for sharing!
...and this afternoon I had to take it out again as the key was binding up again on the way in (and out!). This time I had to remove several more pins to get it to work nicely with the original key and a copy. I'll look into getting a re-pinning kit and doing it properly (I think the ignition lock is going to need the same treatment fairly soon). Since I had the door apart anyway, I took out the door stay detent thing and stuffed some shims in to retension it - much better.
I wish this guy had shown how he removes the lock assembly from the door. He skips right to the cylinder replacement. The part that I ordered already has the clip assembled on the new cylinder. Where are all the release points to remove/reinstall the door lock assembly??
I guess you did this because your key was getting stuck or jammed and you could not turn the barrel, if those who don't want to go through the trouble of finding that hidden pin to get the barrel out, then I suggest it may be worth trying other options first, 1. People who suffer from sticking keys or keys that won't go in fully then some people think oiling may be a good idea, but it is not, as over a period of time may get dirt inside and become like gunj that can jam the pins from moving up or down as the key is pushed in, so best way to never lubricate these locks with any oil, all the pins should run dry, however in the case where oil may have been put in by a previous owner, you then got to try and dissolve this gunj with white spirit, also try using WD40, if you can use a small syringe with a needle like the Doctors use for medics or drug addicts use for thier fix, load up some white spirit and insert the needle into the locks and try and squirt plenty of white spirit into the barrel, it would dissolve and thin out the gunj and the force of the new white spirit will squirt the gunj out, this would be a lot easier than to mess about with having to take this stupidly designed lock barrel that cannot be taken out easily unless you know the factory secret and special tools,
lol I had the same srory , hondas door locks ussually get to problem, had to remove 2 pins out of 9, it will be stiil secure becous left and right pins are mirored you actually need only 5 pins and the other 4 can be removed, wih only one matching key
The problem is you never show clearly where the clip is in relation to that big plate. Is it oriented up or down or sideways? It’s not visible so it would be good to indicate some more detail about its location.
It is positioned in a U shape. Through the door handle crack you can see one of the bends on the top side of the U. From inside you pull down on the bottom of the U which is all on the opposite side of the plate.
Seriously! I cannot find it on the lock either side of the plate. Would like to see a diagram of exactly where it is. Also, is there some trick to getting the plate out? I removed all bolts & screws & took of the door opening rod, still can't get it free...
Kenneth Butler you put the clip on the handle I think I used a socket to pop it on. Put the socket in the hole and push the clip over and back in the original spot. Then line the handle and the backing plate up and pop the handle at the lock while the backing plate is held by the bolts. It should snap back on with a quick thrust from the palm of your hand
I'm a little late to the party here, but wanted to say that I didn't put the clip back on. Just looked like too much of a pain. The lock mechanism attaches to that funky inside plate with one fastener, and I added a second one because there's another hole in the mechanism and the plate that line up. You can do this before you ever put this assembly into the door. The assembly then attaches to the outside door handle as the lock mechanism slides into the hole in the outside handle, and attaches firmly with two fasteners. Put the power lock mechanism back on, reattach the unlocking rod, and you're done. In any case, I found this video very helpful.
Honda key locks are so garbage. I had to do a similar "fix" with my Honda Fit ignition. I just left out the damaged pins and put it back in. It works fine but it's such a shoddy way to do it. I never had to do this with my Toyotas or Nissans!
Scott Godwin If you mean the spring that returns the core to centre I don’t remember exactly. I probably used a pick tool like ones used in video to pull it back on just enough to catch on the back of the core where you will see ridges that hold the spring. If you mean the spring clip for the whole assembly on the back of the handle? Basically put the clip on handle first using a socket to fill the hole void so the clip spreads open over the plastic and then remove socket. Then use a rubber mallet to pop it on the lock as it’s bolted ( the lock) in place.
Nvm I figured it out.i put the key back in didnt move and lost the lil spring that come out of the lock so I had to order other one.thanks for the response
Only after the lock barrel comes out by using the above method, that it becomes clear how to do it next time, by using a small screwdriver one can get to it from the inside and leaver it out or use a special tool such as a flat piece of strong steel approx 0.75mm thick by about 2mm wide that one cam slot it through a small slit on the locking mechanism and leaver it out, but what a stupid design Honda, learn from Skoda Engineers how to make things less complicated. Skoda Engineers 10 out of 10, Honda Engineers -10 out of 10

+ pliers to take the lock apart, almost forgot that part :)
Lock CORES are interchangeable

Thanks for the video, I wouldn't have known about the clip without this on my 06 gd3 Jazz. I used 2 flat head screwdrivers to get the clip out.
That clip is insane to get to. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video. You saved me from mental hospital expences...

you get that clip off and your good to go, thats the most difficult part.

on mine, all the x4 pins were messed up. I'm curious if the x4 pins are a trouble pin that cause so many of these issues.

Thanks a lot, wasn’t easy but got it done. Had to remove the first pin that was worn out and stuck up.
Thanks for the video I couldn't figure out what the hell was holding the lock in the door
Hi, could you help me to get name of small part hiding the barrel hole? It has small spring and rotating when entering the key? Thanks.
Sorry Seb I don't know the technical names of parts. You may be able to find the names through parts lists from supply company's charts.
Thank you!
HOW DO YOU GET THE CLIP BACK ON

I didn't either. Just button up without the clip, seems secure enough.
Thanks for the help :)

Honda is not technician frenly...
I just recode mine minutes ego before i watch your video. Just wanna see how others do it 😅
Did you happen to record you doing this process
How does the top spring go back on?
