No digo que no tenga mérito o que Ronaldinho no deba estar incluido en un ranking (de hecho en mi top 5 personal es el número 3 solo por detrás de Messi y Cristiano), pero el argumento de ser campeón del mundo en un equipo plagado de estrellas mundiales no me parece muy válido. La Brasil del 2002 es probablemente uno de los mejores conjuntos de toda la historia. Todo lo que no hubiera sido salir campeona con jugadores como Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, etc, habría sido un fracaso estrepitoso.

Genuinely, it's very difficult to make such a list, since there have been so many great players in the history of football. I tried to make one myself, but I always ended up feeling unfair for not including someone. I understand that some of the viewers were disappointed that Ronaldinho is not on the list, but honestly, I somehow can't really judge who I would replace for him. Also I could probably name tons of players that possibly deserve to be here, like: Iniesta, Torres, Puyol, Lewandowski, Rooney, Zlatan and many more, but I think creating a top 20 depends on one's subjective opinion.

In terms of longevity and legacy I agree that there are players that have done more than ronaldo fenomeno... but in terms of who was the better player in his prime : ronaldo nazario .....abyss...the rest. Sorry, that is not a matter of opinion, if you watched this guy in his prime, you just know it. The guy was alien, the most gifted and complete player by far : strenght, skills, speed, power, precision... just ask the other players that have played with him...

For me personally amount of trophies are irrelevant. The quality of a player stands on its own. Even if a player hasn't won the World Cup, the Champions League or even a league title, they can still be the best. I say this because football is a team sport. You don't win these titles alone. You need support of your team mates. Without the right assist, you won't score. Without players to finish your passes, you won't have any assists. Without a goalkeeper making point winning saves, you miss out on titles. Without a strong defence, you won't achieve a thing. Without an entire team putting in effort, you're hopeless.
During these greatest ever debates people get too fixated on individuality while football is a team sport.
So when I look purely at skill, talent, mentality, workrate, consistency etc. there's just 1 player for me thats the best ever. I was born in the early 90s. Seen old matches of Maradona, lots of footage of Pele. I know my football history. I know their importance and what they've done. I also think its very silly to compare different eras with each other because football keeps changing and the environment for the players keeps changing. While taking all of that into consideration... there best ever = LIONEL MESSI.
Here's why. Since I started watching football there hasn't been a single player as talented as him on the pitch. There isn't a single player that can do all the things he can. Ronaldo can score just as much as him. But Messi can also build-up attacks, pass the ball around beautifully, dribble through the best defences with no effort, assist a lot more than the best playmakers ever, in his prime he was also a monster in the press and tracking back. He also has insane consistency throughout a long career. His mentality is crazy. Messi is the best goalscorer ever and the best assist giver ever. Not only do the stats show that, but simply watching him is a joy where he displays all those talents on the pitch throughout his matches. During his long prime he was unstoppable. I don't even need to look at his World Cup, 4 CL's, tons of La Liga's, Cup titles etc. Even if he had half the goals and half assists he would still be the best based on his style football and how talented he is with that.
HOWEVER, I do think ''the best ever'' debate in football is silly because its still a team sport and Messi also needed good players around him or else he couldn't have functioned. Which goes for everyone in the sport. C. Ronaldo, Pele, Maradona etc. also wouldn't have done what they did without their teammates. Thats also why I think the Balon d'Or is a silly award. That award and the World Cup isn't why Messi is my favourite player of all time. He is my favourite player of all time due to what he showed on the pitch. His first touch, dribbles, passing, goals, assists, vision etc. Thats what makes him great.
