Fastness is great, however the technical ability of changing that pace with the ball. Thats almost impossible to defend. R9 combined that perfectly.

@siberianTiger639 henry was a faster sprinter but definitely not faster than R9 with the ball at his feet (BIG DIFFRENCE). Also I don't know if henry's stronger than him either what R9 did in his prime before the injuries (95 to mid 98) was fucking insane. He would have players hanging off him while running at goal with the ball at his feet.

Ronaldo was abdolutely the better dribbler and more skilled again, but Henry had perfect control when running with the ball too, it wasn't just kicking it 20 yards ahead. He always had a perfect touch and perfect contol.
You could say Ronaldo could dribble faster with the ball, or change direction and pace better etc, but just running with the ball, in a somewhat straight line withouth changing the direction or pace much, while having it under control Henry was faster I think.

(People like Bergkamp cime to mind) but the fact is most of Henry's greatest runs were punting the ball yards ahead & chasing it down. Kaka was subbed in and hence fresh, Messi had played the whole game and didn't really bother to catch Kaka, he basically escorted him, not really pushing hard (why would he?).
As for Kaka himself, he was an excellent athlete, but it's never been about his top speed, rather his ruthless consistency and control when running with the ball.

@Rainmakeroffire very true they only started recording speeds of players officially after Henry had retired however the tech was available for broadcasting. Around 1999-2001 in a halftime show of an Arsenal match (think it was vs Newcastle) SkySports replayed back a sprint of Henry's and clocked his top speed of 39.2km/h and the pundits were lauding how quick that was. I remember this vividly because I used to do a lot of sprinting at the time and couldnt believe how fast he was. I used that as a benchmark for my own sprinting growing up so the number stuck with me years after that match.

Really important to mention "recorded top speed" doesnt necessarily tell you who the fastest player is, just that they have recorded a high top speed. You probably find players in training that are capable of running much faster speeds than recorded in a match. Nor does it tell you who the fastest player is because maybe the fastest player plays in a system where they dont ever reach their top speed.
When Bale was at Spurs he was asked who the fastest guy at the club was (back when they had Bale, Walker, Lennon) he said top speed its Younes Kaboul, he just had lousy acceleration. You never got to see Kaboul at full speed because he never really needed to get to that speed.
Lennon should be in this but he's not, one of the fastest players i've ever seen, he was an absolute speed freak.
