Ah, and it's pretty much impossible to move around without a car (or taxis). Not only because of the weather or lack of public transportation. There are simply no boardwalks, and where there are, they often end randomly at some point. The upsides: Saudis are by and large friendly people, and if you have money, you can get pretty much anything you want. Apart from booze, although that's not really a big deal after a few weeks of being there.

As an American I find it very cool they are building these. I love mega projects like this just as bragging rights. We dont do it because it makes sense or it's needed we do it because we can. That mentality has pushed humanity in so many ways. It's when humanity gets complacent thats when stupidity happens. To engineer the entire structure to resist swaying and other movements at this height will take hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of computer simulations, and mind boggling mathematical calculations to get this right…also to account for earthquakes in this region.

I know there is science and engineering involved to create something like this, but it is hard to imagine how the concrete base and lower core can handle so much weight. Then, to think about how strong it will have to be to handle wind loads. Even if the design is sound, the thought of one calculation being wrong, or more likely, a single mistake in construction due to human error, scares me. It may not happen right away, but what about in 20 years? Too many unknowns

This is Jedda, a HOT DESERT CLIMATE, not the most forgiving when you suddenly see your outer layer bend due to heat.
I think it is important to factor in the sustainability of projects such as this one. Just because it's a race to build the biggest structure doesn't mean we should be harming our planet in the process. Our future should be mainly focused on things like net zero and still being able to achieve incredible architecture like some of these mega projects but instead using renewable resources even if it's more costly. Obviously you probably can't make a building as tall as you want there has to be a limit at some point I think it depends on the base structure of a building how much weight it can support so the Tyler you build a building the more area it takes up on the ground I assume but since a lot of that area is Desert I think it would be cool if on the outskirts of one of the Cities they could build a hugely tall tower that is twice as tall as the Jeddah Tower you just have to make the bottom of it the size of like 15 city blocks and just build like a 2-mile tall building

Isn’t is possible to triangulate the high by looking at the already build part and the angle of the outer walls?
The peak height is usually the spire which isn't part of the main concrete structure, which I probably makes it hard to guess the final height

This is just a vanity project just to say they have the world’s tallest building. Plus they don’t even have a contractor yet and the current structure has been sitting there exposed to the elements for years and would have to start all over. I’m not convinced it’ll ever be built

Obviously you probably can't make a building as tall as you want there has to be a limit at some point I think it depends on the base structure of a building how much weight it can support so the Tyler you build a building the more area it takes up on the ground I assume but since a lot of that area is Desert I think it would be cool if on the outskirts of one of the Cities they could build a hugely tall tower that is twice as tall as the Jeddah Tower you just have to make the bottom of it the size of like 15 city blocks and just build like a 2-mile tall building
