Another great analysis video. it's always enlightening to see how my viewers interpret the things that I work on and their opinions on the changes I have made to the story. Hopefully I won't keep everyone waiting for new episodes. I appreciate everyones support and patience.
I think the best part of the fight is that we see Metallix's attitude adapt as the fight progresses. At first he's dismissive of Yoshi. When Yoshi swallows the Chaos Emerald and belches in his face, Mettalix can only laugh at Yoshi's attempt of defiance, before giving him some space to run when he could've killed the dino right there. But I think the best demonstration of how dangerous Metallix is is when Yoshi tries to fight him head on, and blocks Yoshi's attacks faster than they can be delivered. Remember, Yoshi was using the Chaos Emerald to attempt to give himself a fighting chance. All the while, Metallix is still able to damage Yoshi, even though the Emerald is amplifying Yoshi's already high durability. .....on that note, I love how Yoshi doesn't fight Metallix directly, and the one time he does, he gets smacked around, putting the idea in Yoshi that he can't fight the killing machine head on. Mark Haynes even said that Mettalix could've still beaten Yoshi without using his own Chaos Emerald. He just activated the Emerald he was carrying to speed things up. Makes me wonder what the fight would've looked like if Yoshi was carrying the first Chaos Emerald Metallix needed. Since the fight is split into four phases, I'd summarize Metallix's shift in attitude like this: Phase 1: He's amused, but feels it won't be too hard to deal with Yoshi. Phase 2: Seeing Yoshi activate the Chaos Emerald, he's taken aback that someone like our favorite reptile can use it. But he's still confident he can win. And Metallix is clearly enjoying himself when Yoshi tries to be fair and challenge him head on. Phase 3: Metallix's enjoyment is short lived, and now he's frustrated. And watching Yoshi redevour the gem after getting struck with enough force to spit the Emerald probably infuriated Metallix. Phase 4: Metallix is BLOODTHIRSTY! He's been getting his butt handed to him by a reptile that refuses to go down; he's been humiliated by that same reptile, and he's thrown everything he can think of at Yoshi, between kicking him with enough force to send him hurling through several plateaus and grinding his face against a cliff. And despite Yoshi's fatigue, he refuses to go down. Probably the scariest part is the lack of scratches or dents on Metallix's body, which could've given Yoshi the hint his opponent could be damaged. Not to mention Yoshi's attempt to grab Metallix for a third time with his tongue might've been a panic move, and probably wasn't thinking straight when he attempts to retreat. While Metallix is at least level headed enough to react without going berserk, despite how angry he is. And the moment Metallix grabs his tongue and Yoshi starts making noises, one of which is probably custom, the fight was already over at the end of Phase 3, when Yoshi trapped Metallix in an explosive egg. Phase 4 is essentially a torture scene, Yoshi's already high durability making this scene even more painful to watch.
@@joshuagarcia4077 Thanks. I've had a hobby in reading fanfics, and providing feedback. And I guess for more thing to bring up regarding how much of a threat Metallix is: I know there's a YT comment somewhere that mentions this. But Metallix is considerably more terrifying using one Emerald vs. the og series when Mecha Sonic wielded four Emeralds. I think we're all in agreement that Brawl on a Vanishing Island will be even more nuts.....when we see it re-animated.
I love how Episode 2 was more or less about Luigi and Yoshi with Mario being a minor character in comparison. In the original run, it became The Mario and Sonic Show from Episode 6. The main reason the reboot beats the original by a mile is because Mark has equally given every main character a moment to shine. Judging by the fact that the Minus World will be replaced by King Boo later on, it feels like Luigi will have more shining moments.
Wait, he's going to remove this...dimension?...HOW DARE HE REMOVE THIS MOMENT that I'm having trouble looking at basic...wait? More seriously, I find it interesting to change this part of the plot which I find innocuous (personally I only watch the fight between Meca Sonic and Sonic), the only thing (in my eyes) that is crucial and the gain of confidence in Luigi after THE moment, and doing it there in a ghost mansion is good. And I'm also happy with this change because when it comes to King Boo's magic stone... we all made the joke 😏 But suddenly Metalix would not need to be there suddenly? Except maybe to get the emerald back (and destroy the mansion), but other than that... Sorry for possible mistakes, I'm French.
This has been worth the wait! One point about this episode that I think is worth mentioning, something the previous episode does as well, is its better characterisation of Mario. In the original, Mario is quick to trust Sonic and Shadow because, as you said, they saved Peach. In the reboot, though, Mario is on the defensive the whole time at the sight of them in the previous episode,. You can see he's on his guard in case they try anything, prioritizing his brother's safety. In this episode, while he's willing to help them, it doesn't automatically means that he trusts them. He's just repaying them, or rather Sonic, for saving Peach, and this is when he thinks it's merely a treasure hunt for some gems. Then he sees a half-dead Yoshi, learns that Sonic and Shadow KNOW about the assailant, and he's furious. I don't doubt that, had Sonic not promised to explain everything, Mario would have fought the two then and there. All of this shows Mario takes his duty as the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom very seriously, which makes Metallix's presence and Sonic and Shadow's unwillingness to tell him, all the worse. They’ve brought something terrible into the Mushroom Kingdom, something that's almost killed one of his closest friends, and nothing will ever be the same again. I'm excited to see how Alvin shows Mario's decision to help the two in this version of the show.
Imagine if Mario and Shadow got into a fight, that's not even me just hoping for a cool fight, I think it's likely, Shadow's behaviour and disregard for the Mushroom Kingdom does not mix well with Mario's thoughts on this whole situation. Oh, what if him fighting Mario could show Shadow that he is in the wrong for acting out?
@@knuxuki1013 it also could add tension in the squad by giving the Mario Bros legitimate reasons to dislike Shadow later on. Say, after their loss to 4-emerald Metallix on Yoshi Island. With the way Shadow carries himself and how his fight with Mecha in the original was essentially a 1v1 with the others as projectiles to throw at Mecha, Luigi and especially Mario could have their own growing beef with the revenge focused Shadow for reasons that differ from Sonic's direct confrontation. When it comes time to take on King Boo, something during that arc may have Shadow do something that solidifies the last straw for the Mario characters working with Shadow afterward. Luigi might not understand but Mario and Yoshi would, Yoshi having first hand experience with Metallix, and Mario having a more active role and understanding of him being the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom like you described. Instead of sitting on the sidelines while Sonic and Shadow bicker the whole time, they can take part in the discussion, albeit for reasons separate but similar from Sonic.
@@SrMissileMonkey I genuinely hope you're right. Mario, Luigi and Yoshi only got angry at Shadow when he refused to rescue Peach when they had plenty of other reasons earlier on. Shadow told Sonic that their problem was none of the brother's business. Right in front of an angry Mario, and Luigi who was practically wailing over Yoshi. My theory is that Shadow will learn to work as a team mate over being alone. Fierce Battles Between Fierce Rivals showcased Mario and Luigi looking out from each other (e.g. Mario saving Luigi from being hit by Bowser's fireball, Luigi standing up to Bowser when Mario is down). The New Threat on the other hand displays the consequences of poor communication. Sonic deliberately neglects to tell his new comrades that Metallix is also after the Chaos Emeralds. Shadow runs off to find the artefacts on his own. As a result, an innocent party is almost murdered.
Another thing a lot of us loved was how Shadow and Eggman's dual explanations of the chaos emeralds overlapped with each other in a very cinematic way. The original series never really played with conversations in two different parts of the world happening at the same time, so it was very cool to see. Plus, it gives both factions equal understanding of what they're fighting for, rather than one side just going after the mcguffins they know nothing about for blind power.
Very well structured and informative. I'm glad that you choose to focus more on the subtle and underappreciated aspects of the series. There's so much more to it than just flashy animation tricks, and Mark clearly understands that. That's why he's basically the king of sprite animation even after all these years. He's just the guy who gets it the most.
One thing I find very intriguing is that the main fight basically kinda does the opposite of what you said in the tribute video about comedy being used to give a rest to immense tension Before the fight, a joke is done with Yoshi of him burping at Metallix after swallowing the emerald, making things seem pretty safe since Yoshi has technically won ownership over the emerald, and then there’s an immense contrast between that slight comedic moment and the fight, making it far more intense in that contrast
I was especially interested to hear your thoughts on the Metallix vs. Yoshi fight, because I've seen some criticize it for making Metallix look weaker, and how it was different from the framing you mentioned before regarding the original fight about specifically showing Mecha Sonic's power versus the later fight with the Koopa Bros to show the power of the Emeralds. But the way you put it together regarding the upping the scale compared to before really came together, and it still does show the degree of strength of our main antagonist, and leaves me eager to see what comes next. Well done once more!
Yeah, even the way the fight played out showed that Metallix would have won even without the emerald. Yoshi had the early advantage, and was probably physically stronger + more durable, but once Metallix was able to read Yoshi's fighting style, it was clear he'd have eventually worn Yoshi down and beat him.
Great analysis as always. I still argue that you really should discuss the music and its cues, between the original and new series, as they really help set the tone and mood. Which is a vital thing in story telling, which lots of ppl underestimate. I don't think it really matters if the showrunner made all the music themselves or not, given that the choice of their placement is just as much an original artistic expression as the writing and animating.

I wouldn't say Mark Haynes is the only one who stepped up his game from episode 1 to 2 ;) EDIT: On re-watch, I noticed at 9:22 you chalk up Metallix using Chaos Control to the Emeralds, but I'm almost positive it's a reference to the mobius flashback where Shadow uses Chaos Control to get rid of the Emeralds, but Metallix copies Chaos Control and goes after them. Granted I understand the timing being a big coincidence, and idk if he does need a Chaos Emerald to do Chaos Control at all, but I thought that was a super clever detail when I first noticed it.

I've seen a lot of these analisis and reacts from people who previously watched the original SMBZ but I haven't seen someone acknowledged the cart chaise scene with Luigi, Yoshi, Wario and Waluigi is a nod of the race of the original series in episode 1, which of course was replaced by the martial arts tournament or "smash tournament" in the first episode of the reboot. Eggman wouldn't have had any deformities due to his narrow escape from Metallix. He was just silhouetted to add a sense of "mystery" to him. But upon reflection, I figured that was a pretty stupid decision because it was painfully obvious who he was. So I completely retconned it and had him show himself right from the get go in the reboot.
@@FrffyVsAnime Surely but according to Sonic's omniscient powers, he was right next to Meca Sonic when he unleashed his power. It's still weird. I hope the remake has a more believable explanation.

But upon reflection, I figured that was a pretty stupid decision because it was painfully obvious who he was. So I completely retconned it and had him show himself right from the get go in the reboot.
@@AlvinEarthworm Ah, I see! I was wondering if he was partially mechanical like his SatAm self, but I appreciate the clarification.
A comment for the algorithm
After more than a decade I am still wondering how did eggman survive ?
He probably used the same machines Sonic & Shadow used.
@@FrffyVsAnime Surely but according to Sonic's omniscient powers, he was right next to Meca Sonic when he unleashed his power. It's still weird.
I hope the remake has a more believable explanation.
Do you know there are other series like Super Mario Bros. Z?
I mean, there are 3 reboot series (I know of) and also animations like Nazo Unleashed, so there must also be some original series?
wlll you be continuing the remake?
Whenever episode 3 comes out, yes
Uhm... first? Also cant wait
long story short.
yoshi dies
keep it a buck the world building in the reboot (so far) is way more interesting
