I have eaten the Carolina reaper on a few occasions and found it to have a more smoky flavor that really works well with chili. I once made inferno chili which has 12 reapers, 12 ghost chili’s, and 24 habaneros. Each chili’s heat hits at different times
WOW that's amazing. I remember having tasted a Bhut Jolokia (ghost pepper) that a friend from Manipur (India) brought some 10 years back. And this other time that I tried 'da bomb beyond insanity' hot sauce. Suffice to say they burnt my chili pepper tasting dreams pretty quick haha.
OMG that's hot
Reapers have such a distinct smell and taste. I used one in my chicken sauce this weekend and the one pepper completely overtook the entire taste of the sauce (in a good way)
I bet you had plenty left over for yourself.
@TheVryfst it’s a normal size crock pot, 5 or 6 quarts
Let's not sleep on the Primotallii!
Fun fact, Currie originally played with weed (found it to be to dangerous) and had alcohol as drug issues.
What “cured him” was a super hot Indian Curry dish. He fell in love with the “high” it gave him.
Been clean ever since. Grew peppers for fun, won over his wife with jam he made, quite his well paying banking job, and made super hot peppers full time. Called it “Pucker Butt Pepper Company”.
An unforgettable name I my book.
I used to get beef jerky soaked in the ghost or bhut chili, that was hot enough for me & still bloody tasty.
It’ll more then likely be overthrown by another one of Ed’s creations.
Yup its quite likely. Got to wait a few more years to see which new pepper he comes out with.
The pepper x Ed’s creation
Apolllo seems a likely suspect... thanks "Smokin" Ed !
he created it smh
The uk is known for it's hot peppers dude we've took the crown many times now and it will stay that way ;)
The TMS looks like off phenotype Reapers and the description fits as well from the delayed heat.
Thanks for watching the video
I recently purchased ghost, scorpion, and reaper peppers. I ate one of each on 3 separate nights, in that order. The ghost was the worst experience for me, but I had it on an empty stomach and had no milk in the house. I handled the heat ok but the cap cramps got me bad for hours. The next 2 were hotter, but I took a Pepcid prior and milk a bit after and no cramps! The reaper was insanely hot on eating it and I absolutely got a rush that I loved! Remember, that insane heat at first is not always the worst part, that shows up hours later if you’re not prepared.
I have only used them when making food, all 3 of them at seperate times.
I agree with you, and I don't like ghost pepper. I have a batch of dried scorpion chilis now, and that's a nice hot chilie.
But the carolina reaper I love for the aroma and have used in soups and many other dishes.
How might one prepare for the worst part?
This is why Ed’s a genius at what he does!!! Xoxoxoxoxo great video!!!!
Hey! thanks so much! 💙💙 Though I have moved on to making art tutorials now. You might want to check those out too if you like- ruclips.net/p/PL5Kodte5Rie9hbVIC498oK5buKUOgHpUl
I cooked stovetop chicken with the green and seedless tip of a half-matured reaper. I had to open every window, find my respirator (didn't help much) while choking to death, my pepper-head roommate came home, choked out a "wtf" and left, and our dog threw up twice.
This was just the seedless half before striking any pith. Anything hotter than that has to be physically dangerous to mere mortals.
Chocolate pepper X here we come
I ate a fresh Reaper a year ago and had to lay in bed for like 2 hours... honestly shocked the Primotalii never made it to this list as that's meant to be one of the hottest ever made!
The human taste buds can not accurately tell which pepper is the hottest. For some the Primotalli may taste worse (in terms of heat) than the Reaper, but there is no Scoville unit rating to compare it to. There might even be hotter wild pepper varieties out there that are yet to be discovered.
@@DoctorBot no wild variants will ever be this hot this is decades of genetic engineering at work selectively breeding genetically modified strains is the only way
@@DoctorBotJohnny scoville eats these things like candy and he says that the chocolate primotalii is hotter
It’s because these guys are pepper ignorant and work for curry
Dude I ate a ghost pepper and I couldn't feel my face for an hour y make it even hotter. Some people r suckers for pain
Indeed they are. And I totally agree. I tasted a ghost pepper once. Big mistake, never again!!
Guinness shouldn't be the only source of info like this. You can break the record but if you don't pay Guinness, they won't publish it.
when I was a kid, I couldn't tolerate the heat from jalapenos. I never thought spicy foods would be a thing I'd actually pursue. I don't remember what the moment was that changed that. I recently had chicken strips drenched in last dab Apollo and it was delicious.
I bought 2 hotsauces that was just puree and a bit of vinegar of both carolina reaper and X. Felt pretty much exactly the same
Must be 1000x diluted stuff.
Pepper X is just a myth Ed made up to sell hot sauces.
Dragons breath actually makes ur mouth fire
But pepper X is that hot it makes u monster X
Makes no sense since his Carolina Reaper is already doing so well globally. What would he resort to gimmicks? Think about it
lol
According to Guinness World's Record Certificate. Pepper X rates at an average of 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Units.
To me, it is the ugliest looking pepper I have ever seen. And I would not even try to taste it.
I have 1 Carolina Reaper 1Dorset Naga and 2 Pepper X plants in fruit now here in the UK but been a crap season🌶💥🚑
Cool list :)))))
Glad you think so :) Thanks for watching!!
I've had the reapers but the pepper pods in my profile pic as seen to the left features my favorite superhot, the gator jigsaw.. This pod I found to be a little hotter then the reaper with a resounding unique flavor followed by severe heat
oh wow. The gator jigsaw certainly resembles pepper X in its look. Thanks for sharing this information. Cheers!!
Tru the x peper is hotter than the reaper but is it a stable type of plant/ pepper...i have the naga death peper and some say its hotter than the reaper.
He got the trinidad wrong. It has an average of around 1.5 million shu. And can peak at over 2 million, just shy of the Carolina reaper.
PS- Many speculate Chocolate Bhutlah will overthrow Carolina Reaper. Although not official by the Guinness World Record, is said to top out at 2 million Scoville Heat Units on the official Scoville scale. The Chocolate Bhutlah is a unique cross between a Bhut Jolokia and a Chocolate Douglah, hence the name mashup of bhut-lah. When it comes to hot peppers, this pepper delivers incendiary heat. The Chocolate Bhutlah tastes smoky, yet fruity and floral at the same time. Some people would describe these peppers as having a nutty and even almost chocolatey flavor. However, it's important to note that the pepper is named “Chocolate” because of its color, not its flavor.
i would describe chocolate bhutlah as more of a sharp pain rather than heat, which people will probably say hurts more than carolina reaper
however the scoville scale is measured based on how much you dilute it in order to not feel any more heat, it isnt really a pain scale (pain is subjective)
Yes scoville scale has nothing to do with pain perception and people need to realize this
Though I have a current 3' x 3' reaper setting pods to date raised Ghost,Trinidad Scorpion Butch T, & 7 pot douglah's and some Thai Chilli's and hands down so far the 7 pot is my hottest to date!!💣💥 friggen gets with program!!! HOT!
Forgot I'm also growing new to me but my seed guy sent me some " death peppers" not sure how they stack up but started very late and currently 6" so hopefully they'll make it here in Minnesota? October finish I'm guessing. Any body knows of this pepper I'm all ears.
Why there is no news about pepper x since 2017?
Interesting observation
It’s only been released in sauce not seeds are out yet
Because the pepper is a gimmick
The Chocolate Premotalii is currently the hottest.
Says whom?
I made a batch of salsa with one Carolina Reaper. Hot enough for me.
i grew some firey ass ghots peppers last year. tons more this year and some primotaliis that supposedly hit 2.4 million
How do they test the Scoville heat units?
Universities generally are capable of doing it.
The Chile Institute of NM grew Primos and Reapers in identical growing conditions. The average shu was 1.4 mil shu, the primo beating the reaper by about 100k. Guinness doesn’t care about those numbers. They care about how much you are willing to spend for multiple tests.
42 year olé native son of Albuquerque.
They've done tons of great work down at Las Cruces in the past 17 years.
They grew 7 pot primos that produced insane average numbers even on the low end.
They bred a world record years ago but the name escapes me.
Pepper D from Inked Gardener is being reviewed by Guinness now to overthrow the reaper.
But I agree the primotalli peppers are much hotter than the reaper.
There is the Carolina Reaper, and then there are the offshoot Reapers.
@@M_Ladd The Primo came before the reaper
@@toneranger7813 Adam came before Eve too. So what
I am way past habanero peppers but it seems like most of these peppers are having your own based and then some other heat mixed in so pretty much if you're used to habanero I mean you can pass any of these and what it seems like
Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is about as hot as I can go. I love to cook with this pepper because of the fruity background flavor.
I love hot sauces. The hotter the better. I still have yet to grow the sac to eat actual peppers though. 😅
Have some bell peppers with hot sauce. Its the ideal solution :)
You love hot sauces. But would you put that shit on everything?
@@JasonSmith-vj1de Sriracha
Smokin Ed Currie has already beat his own Pepper X with the Apollo Pepper a cross between the the Reaper and Pepper X. Hot One's sell it and it currently featured in season 18 holding the final spot. I go through a bottle ever couple of weeks and it is a great tasting sauce with no extract used thank God. I hate the taste of extract.
You didn’t mention the Apollo Pepper. A pepper Smokin’ Ed Curie cultivated buy crossbreeding the Carolina reaper with the Pepper X. It is expected to surpass 3 million Scoville Heat Units.
The Apollo Sauce is claimed to test 2.5 million shu. Primo Army sauce is roughly 70k and is nearly as hot
@@toneranger7813 Curious, do you have some sort of investment in Primo that you constantly keep referring to them?
@@M_Ladd Troy is a friend and his story is much more believable. If it's true, the Reaper shares dna with the Primo and the Primo came out several years prior. It's a stolen legacy
I wonder if I make sambal from pepper x. What would it taste like. 💥🔥
U will like get touched by kira yoshikage and u about to go explode at ur stomach and tongue ://////////
A supernova explosion in the toilet waiting to happen
I watched an interview with Ed Currie talking about Pepper X, he's said his company basically has samples they can submit to Guinness for testing at any stage. I think he's probably going to ride the notoriety of the Reaper for as long as he can though =)
Pure Capsaicin is hotter than Pepper X (16,000,000 Scoville heat units)
To bad you can't eat it. Its only use for medical purposes
Pepper x makes a ghost pepper look like sugar lol
It's actually mircha, mircha means chilly in our native tongue. The Naga morich is aka as Naga raja mircha or Naga king chilly
Nice, thanks for the info. I am sure most of us did not know that. In northern India too, we say mircha and mirch colloquially to refer to peppers.
Chocolate Bhutlah is hotter than the reaper allegedly.
Agreed
Pepper X...... Because the Carolina Reaper just isn't hot enough.....
There was no mention of the actual hottest pepper which is the Primotalii
i love growing chillies medical plant
Lol I've eaten a few ghost peppers the first one was the worst 😅 it was hell lol but I don't taste as well anymore
I have tried a Habanero which is the hottest Pepper that you can buy at the Supermarket. Maybe I would try a Ghost Pepper as a Challenge. But I would not try anything hotter.
tried the harbanero too, had stomach ache… but you can buy carolina reaper hot sauce at some supermarkets. tried the smallest dab and it felt crazy. would never eat a whole pepper
I have eaten 7 Carolina reapers and wanted to try approximately 25 in one minute and then I hear it's not the hottest pepper anymore. Now I must try gen x
Wow the sound of that is scary.
I would advise against eating gen x, cannibalism is a crime. Stick to pepper x :)
@@DoctorBot 😂😂😂
@@lydiasellers3194 LOL
pepper x is another one of the mad scientist lol smokin ed creations i think the estimated rating on it is 3million scollville, but at the moment the carolina reaper is the record holder
He says he has peppers hotter than carolina reaper already but hasn't released them. He's waiting for another pepper to officially beat his reaper so he can just pull out of his unreleased peppers to stay on top
You forgot the chocolate bhutlah.. the primo and primotalii which was made by being crossed with the Primo and fatalii
What you mention are some of the many cultivars of the Chocolate 7-pot (most of them clocking over 1 milllion SHU). For the sake of the video, I kept all the cultivars/ varieties clubbed together under the same chili pepper. Please watch 05:05
@@DoctorBot disagree.. the chocolate bhutlah (which in these comments you are unaware of) is much hotter than the reaper for example.. the Primo which is grown by Troy Primo who happens to be a personal friend of mind out of Lafayette Louisiana.. that pod is hotter than those. The Primotalii which was crossed as I said earlier is (by Johnny Scovilles testament the hottest hes ever eaten and that includes the pepper X from Ed.. Johnny is also a close friend of mine as well as Ed. They live very close to one another.. for now..lol Trust me I'm not just making these things up. Your video is about the top hottest peppers.. not the cultivars.. just the real hottest was left out that's all I was stating.. now if you were unaware of this which I'm sure at this point you were I said this only for your benefit.
@@thepineappler3370 Hmm that's really interesting to know. Yup I was unaware about it and didn't really find anything about the chocolate bhutlah, primo, and promitalli when I was scripting the video. But hey, thanks for clearing things out and I'm sure many people would find this interesting too. Cheers :)
Misconception. The Carolina reaper was "thought" to be the hottest. The Genghis Khans Brain can reach higher Scoville ratings than a Reaper. Pepper X is even higher.
Pepper D by Inked Gardener is going to beat them all. It’s currently being reviewed by Guinness
Missed the Chocolate Bhutlah ~2mil SHU still being evaluated I believe. Can't say it's a very tasty pepper though...
Never heard of this pepper. Any idea where it originates from? Thanks for letting everyone know, cheers!! :)
I think I posted this as a private comment the first time; but that's fine because it reminded me of an iconic share which I added below:
The Chocolate Bhutlah is a cross of Bhut Jolokia and a douglah. I picked up some seeds from Ed Currie some years back and can attest they are screaming hot, but not unusable for sauces. Their flavor profile is fairly plain, not unlike the orange habaneros you find in the grocery store, maybe a little more floral. The first link below is informational and the second is to Ed Currier's shop in case your the growing type and final link is Sean Evans and Chili Klaus a must see for all pepperheads.

@@LilRofl well researched. Thanks a ton for sharing.
I did grow some local variety of Indian chili peppers, that I can stomach. In future, I might buy some seeds from Ed Currie's shop, though wont probably be able to eat those peppers :)
@@LilRofl Saw that episode with Chili Klaus, they were sweating bullets, LOL 😂😂
Oh, and his name is Sean Evans, not Scott

i’ve actually ate the chocolate bhutla, heres a video of me doing so ;ruclips.net/video/9T9nc3nAsiY/видео.html … better quality videos coming soon !
I didn’t think pepper x was real.
I wish I would have saved seeds from only one pod. I tried to grow Trinidad scorpion but ended up with red and peach ghosts instead. I did a horrible job saving that varietie. And that one is my favorite. Bought a butch T instead but I wanted the Trinidad Moruga scorpion. At least I'm growing Moruga scorpion yellow. Also growing reaper and dragon's breath.
Now we know how accidental cross breed varieties are created. You might end up creating a new chili hybrid with all those. Ed Currie watch out!!!!
HOW YOU CAN COOK WITH SOMETHING HOT LIKE THAT ??
you forgot primotali pepper
I can’t even eat a banana pepper
No one takes the real fresh pepper x. They could put extract pepper sauce to make hotter than any pepper out there.
Wait a min Naga morich is 75-100k watt. And I thought it was wAy less then others
100K Watt would be electrifying enough to power a whole street!!! Wonder if we can generate power through chili peppers!! Gotta tell my scientist buddies to look into it 👩🔬👨🎓👨💻
I suspect he’ll wait until he makes a hotter one to release the seeds. But on that note, he might’ve had pepper xs since the reaper released.
Cool list, except for dragon's breath.
Did the dragon's breath stink lol :)
Why bro ?
Ed Création = Devils Création
Indeed!!!
Why
If you make a hot sauce with the Carolina reaper be sure to ferment it you won't be disappointed.
Fermented peppers, if not done properly, can kill ya. I won't touch any of them.
@@M_Ladd yeah because we have extreme death counts from Tabasco sauce every year.
@@ihave35cents95 mold and botulism is nothing to F with. Tobacco isn't made in the back yard. I said done properly.
@@M_Ladd look it up. It pretty much is made in a swamp.. and it’s very rare when you keep your pH levels at 4.7 and below throughout the process with burp lids, but I never said anything about not doing it improperly did I .why would I do something improperly?
@ihave35cents95 Why would anyone intentionally do something improperly? It happens. Are you inspected by health inspectors like they are? Or are you just blowing smoke?
I won't take that chance, too easy for something to go wrong. And when that happens, it ends badly. Plus, you are telling people how to do something that most have never done before and not telling them all of the risks involved. No, thank you .
Where my level stands. TABASCO
Did you forget about the Scotch Bonnet?
I think the spice thing is getting out of hand to be honest. In my younger days Jalapenos were a good sign of how well a person could handle heat. Habaneros were for savages and idiots. I once ate a dried Ghost Chili and it was too much, multiplied by about five. I felt like I was gonna black out the more it built and built and then afterwards I felt like I was on a narcotic the way I was elated and swaying around. Why would anyone want something three times as hot?
What about the British “Dragons Breath”?
I have a pepper called that butt lava pepper that is 7 million SHU
The fact that you put the Dragon’s breath pepper at number two and you put the pepper X pepper at number one that nobody has ever seen outside of pictures and there’s no proof of the actually exist says everything about your expertise on peppers
So is carolina reaper hotter than dragon's breath pepper
Chocolate Bhutlah is the worst I've seen most people react to, don't know much about pepper x.
The Carolina reaper is now the 3rd hottest pepper in the world
V good
Thanks for watching :)
Wonder witch peppers were crossed to get to PEPPER-X
It probably takes years and years of hybrid cross breeding amongst cultivars. For pepper X it is said that Ed Currie took 10 years to create this cultivar, not sure about which cultivars were used.
Pepper x isn't real fake information
@@awakenhealth3448 a simple google search will tell you otherwise. But hey, we still live in the world where 'the Earth is round' is also deemed fake news. Do you have any information that supports your claim?

That's a tough question!
After a certain point it does get ridiculous.
I believe Carolina reapers was found in North Carolina not South Carolina
Could be the case, however from what I have researched it seems to have been created in South Carolina.
