PSA: if you use a virtual credit card, you can have 1 card for each subscription or purchase that can only be charged once and auto-terminates itself. this not only makes you much better shielded from leaked/stolen data, there is no way for people to charge you again no matter how they try it. please spread this info so we can stop companies from screwing consumers over finding ways to charge them without them noticing or being able to stop it.
Louis Rossmann has been telling his subs this for awhile now. Not for places that charge every month, but would work for places that let you do a year at a time. You'd have to get a new card number and then change it on the website of whatever you are using, but that's not a big deal once a year.
A new trend (sample of 2-3) I've noticed is subscription sites rejecting single-use virtual card numbers. Disappointing, but there is nothing greed won't defile on our way to hell.
@@SirReptitious there are also virtual CCs that accept only transactions from 1 company, but are not limited to just 1 transaction, usually lasting a year. this is a solution for those that don't want to change card every month for their subscription but in that case it won't stop the company of charging you things beyond your expectation until you cancel the card. it does allow you to at least prevent extra charges once you cancel the card and unsubscribe the service.
@@f.e.dzerzhinsky old trend for some specific services, but that is the entire point of my "PSA". the more people that use VCCs the stronger our collective will and demand is. both to prevent more companies to enforce such restriction and to force companies with it to remove it.
Privacy allows for merchant locked / cost limiting/ single use cards. They also prevent subscriptions from “finding” your other credit cards. So far have not had any issues with their cards
Wendell saying “Slower than molasses runnin down the side of a jar in January!” 😂 I love this show
hey! I love your upload schedule. goes well with my 3rd shift lifestyle. have a great night
Same, they always pop up right when I need them. 2/3rds through my shift 👍
3rd shift gang
First shift here. Please do your goddamn job 😂
@@michaelmcconnell7302 Lmao, grumpy like all the first shifters
Love your show. Thank you for keeping us up to date.
I don’t like that palm tree watching me.
That intro thumbs up killed me! Thanks
Didn’t know I wanted my news from a couple of kinda awkward, monotoned, nerds, but I’m quite charmed by the group. 😂❤
Always wanted to work for Google's Python team, oh well.
they already exploited the tech h1b visa loophole since 2005.. thats why almost all employees in sf are not from here, and take low pay as they roommate to 2 a room
Parents are in a situation where they are in rural America and dependent on a phone line. The phone company is letting the infrastructure rot and doing band-aid fixes when they feel like it. They finally complained to their Congressman about it, and this Congressman must've particularly hated the phone company, because their line was crystal clear less than 24 hours later.
Century Link was doing this shit ten years ago. I dropped DLS when I started working from home because Century Link wouldn't provide me speeds needed for me to work at home. So I switched my internet to Cox and kept my land line. Well, the copper deteriorated over the 60+ years it's in this hood, and Century Link fucked around with my service. I'd call in repeatedly, and they would turn off my phone instead of fixing it and not telling me they did this. Yeah, dumped them years ago. Sad thing is, there are reasons you'd want a land line in addition to a cell phone.
Never mind Microsoft Bob; they're going to bring Clippy back. Now with a cyber-eye.
Clippy didn't like that.
20:36 ads in video games always reminds me of Diddy Kong racing on N64 like 20 yrs ago. I was a teenager like "wtf? Why is Nintendo plastered across this mountain during my race? That's so egregious!".
And look at us now lol NHL replaces loading screens with commercial breaks even though it's already done loading. Thanks Verizon! Real contribution to society for all those subsidies your executives enjoy 👍🍆
The news stories you folks share during these discussions are the kinds of things we (everybody, everywhere) should be seeing a *lot* more of in mainstream news reporting - instead of who's flatulating/falling asleep in a courtroom, or who showed up at The Met Gala wrapped in crepe paper.
Thank you for taking the time.
I'm a fanboi for life. Keep up the great work.
😍👍🏼🤗
Windows 11 is the reason I'm running Kubuntu on my main desktop now.
Well that and Proton... I'd be angry on Windows 11 in a few months if Proton wasn't so damn good.
Bazzite is pretty nice 🎉
Been interested in trying those out, but I've been making things work on Manjaro and Solus. So many distros and options here in the Linux world!
Ide be running a windows vm for games if that was my only option lmao
I have been trying out distros for 4 years now and settled on Nobara
I run win10 and blocked all outgoing exe... svchost calls to microsoft every 15 minutes for no good reason, my firewall log is long and i have nothing open!
Also on debts everybody can't be. Every debt/liability has an asset, a deficit a surplus, a spending and incomes etc
So who's holding the assets?
Ah Centurylink, The worst ISP by far. They had a monopoly in my little middle of nowhere town they inherited, from another company that had the monopoly, from another company that had a monopoly. Was so glad when local ground fiber rolled out in my area. 500x the speed for 1/3 of the price. May Century burn in broadband hell.
ground fiber? you mean the cable is burried?
@@tolpacourt Yes, my current ISP only does burried fiber. Centurylink has a monopoly on telecom use on the local power poles in my township for another 30 years. From a inherited monopoly from the company that first installed phone lines in my rural town. This means that the only way fiber could get into my area was if it was all burried. From ISP to home.
Long live competition!
Meanwhile my two-day Amazon delivery has been on it's way for 8 days so far and it still isn't here... They've updated the delivery date twice so far each time saying "If it isn't delivered by X date, you can request a refund", but there is no refund button, they just keep pushing that date out.
That happened to me with a USB C front panel header I ordered through them but shipped through UPS last August (instead of Amazon's own delivery) reach out to their support and they should fix it by shipping out another one. And if you get the original you're legally allowed to keep it without paying in the US if you're name is on the shipping label
I got a contract offer from Peloton a couple years back. For their IT they were doing through contractors on 1 month contracts.
Something in my brain just snapped last week and I ditched the last windows machine in my house for Fedora 40 Plasma spin
Ayyy, great to see another Linux user in the wild. I use EndeavourOS myself, but _anything_ is better than Windows 11 atm.
Thanks for the great videos every week.. cheers.
8:05 Thank you, Wendell. Good to get a reminder that Intel is a very, very large boat, and as Kristen said, it'll take some more time to fully turn around. Ryan mentioned CHIPS Act money: has Intel even gotten a dime yet? I'm pretty sure the gov't is waiting on results before Team Blue gets anything. 😅
12:50 I work in home repair. I have fantasized about building parts I need on-site. Wouldn't need one as big as that!
17:15 One of my Windows updates broke the updater. The system has quit suggesting I upgrade to 11. Best update Microsoft's put out in ages.
24:13 When I lost my card last year, the rep asked if I'd like to swap my subscriptions over to my new card. (Please don't, it's the easiest way to sever those ties!)
Post-video edit: Sony walked back the Helldivers thing because people exploded. Keep getting angry at stuff, everyone.
I want to see Google go down the AOL collapse road.
No! No! No! No! No! No! Dave and Busters should NOT be allowed to have gambling machines in their franchises. First of all, Gambling is rightfully age gated. There's a reason you have to be 21 to walk into a casino. It's bad enough their "arcade machines" are damn near close to gambling as it is. Second, you know damn well they're going to claim they don't fall under casino rules "because we're a restaurant and arcade and not a casino." Uhg. This is going to go south in so many ways. And if they're allowed to do this, it's going to open up exceptions that will undermine various state gambling oversight groups. No! No! No! No! No! No! No!
Agreed 200%... already, they have casino slot machine on the phone now!
Also...People are addicted to slot machine phone gacha games that givr NO actual prizes...for Hulk Hogan wwe champions app (fulltime ebegging Streamer Phil Burnell the ebeggar spent over 10,000 on it)
Thanks for the video.
Peaceful Skies.
windows 11 is the new vista
Amazon in my area (oddly Alabama) has only improved. Depends on the items, but I recently got next day on prime that was within 24 hours the next morning (3-5AM). Last week I had same day that evening delivery (8-10PM). Now I'm not a fan of some things on Amazon and their business model and employee treatment, but they have a handle on customer satisfaction from the delivery perspective in many respects. At what cost? Eventually, this house of cards will likely topple.
Rural areas have gotten better for sure but there is so many people exploiting it in urban areas.. employees and customers both
Forget Microsoft bob, meet your new ai assistant Paper clippy!! He's making a comeback as everyone's helpful ai helper.
Thank you team for putting out the only ah links I care about !
U Maine 3D printed a pretty good sized boat, and are going to print an even bigger one next. They said they can use multiple 3D printers simultaneously to create complex projects faster. It's really cool to see. They are also talking about using wood pulp as a print material (something we have a lot of here in Maine) to help increase recyclability and reduce costs.
Speaking of Google layoffs, Broadcom is destroying VMware.
yea amazon shipping is taking 2 times as long as it used to for me.
If I sign out of amazon and pay for shipping I can get a package either overnight or 2 days. When I'm signed into Amazon they only give me the option of 5 day shipping.... FUCKED UP!
I absolutely love my folding phone. The formfactor is why I love it and I think it's crazy how allergic people are to it. granted, I did not buy my first one without being forced into it due to a smashed S21 and no other options available to replace it.
I like the inner screen when reading stuff, but it being like a brick when folded is starting to get to me after ~8 months of using it now. It doesn't help that a decent case seems to add even more volume than one on a slab phone.
I want the "ooooooooh it's makin' it weird" as an audio clip. 12:04
"RISC is good!' lol... that's a movie quote from 30 years ago.
The windows 10/11 problems are why I am still on win7pro. I recently installed Linux Mint on a spare SSD in the hopes of switching to Linux completely. Installing the OS was easy, but I dread the misery that is to come when I have to find and learn different programs to replace the ones I use on windows, learn how to use Wine to run TurboTax, and of course learning all the complicated command line functions you need to anything other than install a program from the repository......
You don't need to learn command line functions. If you have a problem which requires the terminal just search the web or ask chatgpt. The latter is often faster.
h1b visa hiring by tech has been huge since 2008.... thats why half their teams were NOT from here and sf rent is so high, as the h1b workers bused to work live many people per apartment... i know the topic well in miami, why i was never hired in tech (too american)
system here loves hiding h1b hiring comments... for obvious bias reason $
The video title is really funny 😂
Love being windows free for years now.
Hey Wendel, FYI the world's largest 3D printer in Maine uses thermoplastics, not concrete.
Walmarts around me have vision centers but none have eye doctors. You have to get your prescription somewhere else and then you can order your glasses and contacts at the vision center.
I love the Donkey Kong Country background! ❤
Can't wait for Clippy A.I. /s
Desktop users need doas. It's easy to install easy to configure, and easy to replace sudo with, using ruby scripts as just-in-time operation replacements with a software shim made expressly for replacing sudo's calls with those from doas.
State of windows made me embrace Linux. Not going back.
I'm here, I'm here! Everything is ok now!
The Academic Agent exclaimed, "I'm here!"
@@tolpacourt Bot?
I know I'm in the minority but I'm glad they're at least modernizing the look and feel of Windows with 11. I hope the lack of people switching over doesn't send the message that they should keep the operating system to look like a relic of another decade.
Gigamold goes mouldy. Who woulda thunk it?
I let my prime sub expire over a year ago. I still order from time to time and still get free shipping by spending more than like $50 but the shipping can often be slow. Not only is waiting a bit for what i do need to order not that big of a deal for me, there have been several mistakes where my order has arrived twice and I don't hate that either. I don't miss prime.
LOL, I thought I was crazy, my iphone didn't alarm this past weekend in the morning
....
One concept that I do like with 3D printed houses, is that it might mean we get a resurgence in lancet-arch windows and doors because they're easier to print without supports.
They use front and rear casting with the battery as floor, so a larger casting became redundant.
Woot!
has anyone of you guys any experience with RMAing a fried 14900KS? My motherboard here basically fried my 14900KS within the first few days... now i can barely get it stable at 5.9. TY.
Thanks for the video.
Apple vision pro tanking brings me tons of happiness. Now Apple will sell you a $3000 ipad to make you vision pro tears go away LMAO.
Instead of allowing systemd to continue expanding faster than the universe, consider BSD's doas as your lightweight sudo alternative.
years ago I broke the FB algo by unfollowing everything, it was good for a month or so (completely blank feed) but then it became aware and started pushing random crap. I deleted my account.
1x1 invisible pixel trackers, you must have missed that
5:01 casino security:
Some people just enjoy playing poker, and pay to play the game; don't care if they win or lose.
Others probably don't even know it's the adrenaline rush they like of the possibility of winning on the machines.
Or also, like Ryan said.
Who owns the debt? Tax the ultra wealthy.
have a great night
3:17 Try some MMT. Goverment (you don't mention what kind of debt we're talking about) deficit equals private sector surplus. A balanced budget makes a recession. Govt finances are not anything like home finances. (Simplifying the two first.)
Given how often AI is wrong, I wouldn't ask it how to make explosives or Napalm. That would be dangerous.

A five dollar bill? That's illegal!
Why cant you sort your photos and Video on Google photo by size ?
27:30 - Knowing that experts like the Level 1 team also don't know how to pronounce sudo is comforting.
Indeed, I’m sitting here screaming at the screen “su + do = sudo! It’s obvious” …
But another part of my brain wakes up and says “sudo => pseudo = unprivileged user acting as root, makes perfect sense” …
So I think it’s a Schrödinger word. It exists in both pronunciations concurrently until you open your mouth and the waveform resolves into either the sensibly correct pronunciation or the other disturbingly also-correct pronunciation.
23:20 this happens to me!!! i hate it, it just rings silently
Speaking of Windows 11, I wish people would do reviews over time as opposed to only when the OS comes out.
Wendell says it sucks, but why?
"Cheaper workers in the US" doesn't really work, it only works if those people stay at their poor nations where the cost of living is much lower... How detached from basic common sense are those execs?
Buddy, Barrack enabled the tech hiring loophole for h1b... guess who stopped it? Yep, 2016.. and the day 1 of 2020, Joe made an executive order to block the intelligent work the guy in 2016 did to block h1b visa loophole hiring (hence not hiring americans like me since 2008) Its documented so this is reality already, kidos.
(insert tech h1b visa hiring since 2008) democrats enabled it 2008 and again 2020
bet the ai blocks me undeniable factual truth above (twice)
it hid my reply hahhaha .. called it.
*i said tech h1b loophole hiring bills amd proof and it hid my reply twice!*

17:27 - I saw this coming a mile away.
Hail Bill, may his...merciful ...shadow fall upon you.
29:38 Just get a K&N washable house filter and never buy a filter again.
About 35:40 , on Twitter/X when you said many account Elon follows repost the content it's not entirely correct. These accounts do not reuplod content as their own, they 'repost'/'retweet' the original post and the views goes also to the original post. You can also open the original post from the reposted tweet and see that the view on the original are much much higher that on the repost.
My iphone4s back in the day alarms would periodically not work so I feel it's been something that old. Who knows!
I wonder how much napalm you need to get rid of hornet's nest. I should ask my local AI.
On debts I see most have forgotten the well-known christian tradition of the Year of Jubilee aka cancelling of all non-commercial debts.
History goes as far as to the near east's Assyrians ~3,000 BC! They knew how(and the consequences -becoming usury) to calculate interests rates then. Interests in 5 yrs would double what you paid in principal. 10 yrs 4x, 15 yrs 8x etc!

Microsoft Sam Altman Fried, lol
the new microsoft assistant will be called Microsoft Alt Sam instead to differentiate from Sam Altman
People moving away from Windows 11 should be telling these idiotic corporations that we the people don't want AI and we don't want our lives filled with telemetry and ads. If we wanted our desktops to be automated assistants we wouldn't be buying desktop computers, we'd be buying Alexas instead.
I have a legal, legit, up to date, no weird add-ons version of windows 11. Where are these alleged ads being served?

The only reason I'm not jumping ship to Linux right now is because I don't have ny old laptop with me to fall back to if I mess up, and I still haven't quite found what distro I like. Tried dual booting Kubuntu, couldn't get proton to work with the steam game I wanted to try, and finally had to remove the dual boot since my laptop only has a 512GB SSD right now.
For people comfortable with the Windows experience I'd recommend Zorin. It's another Debian/Ubuntu re-spin but with a lot of attention paid to the desktop experience. That said, while I recommend Zorin for newcomers to the Linux desktop world, I personally don't use it. I've tried, but having started daily driving Linux on the desktop with Slackware 96, I find Zorin a little too restrictive if you want to maintain the consistent look and feel.
I recommend fedora kde if you're uncertain. I used it to jump from w11 on my desktop and laptop; it is pretty stable and kde was an easy transition.
But definitely wait until you have a backup machine; just in case you have an issue and need to do work/troubleshoot.
@@DunkSouth alright, thanks.
I do like the KDE interface, haven't tried fedora yet.
