I was actually in this movie. During the deck chair scene I was paying football against the sea wall. I was working at the Cliff tops hotel at the time.
I am no David Essex fan but I felt this was one of the most authentic movies about this time period ever made. I can't think of any doubtful aspect in the plot or the dialogue.
I first saw this when I was about 16 and it seemed impossibly glamorous. Now 40 years later it seems a grubby, sordid story. But it remains a rewatchable gem. Much better than the sequel.
Ooh-I was only 5 (1973), when this movie was shown, so never saw it then, but knew & loved David Essex through listening to my older siblings albums. Then in 1984, I was privileged to watch both this and the sequel “Stardust” on TV. It ignited a passion in me for all things 60’s and British and I became a ‘mod revivalist’ as a result (was big here in Australia & very underground at the time). I also started reading books on the Beatles, John Lennon, Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, The Who, etc. Now-please, where can I buy a DVD of these two movies? Great acting and storyline, big applause to the British film industry for making such an excellent piece of work.👍❤️💕
I knew there were some famous names in this movie, like Paul Nicholas, Dave Edmunds, Ringo Starr, Adam Faith.. but I never realised till now that Robert Lindsay and Pauline Quirk were in it! But I guess they weren't that famous back then.

@@mrmrsmsmisscloud7512 Hi, sort of, because Ringo's in it?, Stomy tempest (Billy Fury ) was based on Rory Storm, leed singer in Ringo's first proper band, Rory Storm and the Hurricane's, incidently Ringo and Billy Fury from same part of Liverpool ( DINGLE ) went to same School. Peace.
How can I watch the whole movie? I can only access clips of this move! I don’t care if I have to pay to watch it. Someone, please help! Big David Essex fan. If not the movie, I’m happy if someone could point me in the right direction on where to buy the book about this movie Thanks Anna :)
One of the finest UK films. Captured the post war aspirations and the mundane everyday lifestyle

What a claim to fame! That's wonderful. What memories do you have of the experience?

David and Ringo would be classed as ponces nowadays
That means they're not dickheads.
Basically the British "Rebel Without A Cause"....a classic

never seen this before
having worked in the holiday camps nothing is made up in this film. 😂
This and Stardust are totally believable.
Film should be re released.
TALKCalgary I can’t think why they don’t re-release it or make another version of it. Is it loosely based on John Lennon and The Beatles?
@@mrmrsmsmisscloud7512 Who would be your choice of cast? Loved this film as a teen.

Anyone know if the music shop scene was shot in Monkton Street Ryde? Looks like it to me and there was a music shop there for many years.
Where can I stream this for free?
