- @BMDPortraits proudly bring you my another realistic portrait drawing featuring Ms. Hermione Granger using my favorite drawing medium pastel pencil. On this drawing i wish to show the power and the magic of pastel especially on sanded paper. I want to share how easy it is to blend, layer and create wonderful magical highlights that is very easy and very pleasing to the eyes.
I used Stabilo Carbothello Pastel Pencils, Toison D'or soft pastels, Pastel Premier Sanded Paper, Gioconda pastel pencils.
This reference photo of Hermione Granger played my my favorite English Actress Ms. Emma Watson is inspired by HARRY POTTER 20TH ANNIVERSARY: RETURN TO HOGWARTS series on HBO Max.

I did the Verdaccio technique where u need to put green undertone to bring out the vibrancy of the flesh tones apply over it. I sharpen my pastels using very sharp cutter knife, and i do it very carefully.

Am I ok if I guess that your pastel pencils are chalk based ? Are they all "soft", or any of them are "hard" ones?
Yes, Chalk based, all soft and powdery

Amazing!.. First time i saw this green foundation technique. Can we use this technique with colored-pencil too? I already purchased one set of pastel pencil too but still having hard time to use it.
not exactly d same process, but yes you can use green with color pencil. When u get used to pastel u will love it, its so easy in terms of blending and depth

i used pastel pencil here, but in other portraits i use Prismacolor and Polychromos, i use Strathmore Papers

Why green?
because when it blends with bright colors, shadows become cooler, has classic appeal and fuller tones
Ano po mas maganda sa colored pencil strathmore Bristol o strathmore tone tan/gray
Mas ok mag start sa white bristol, pero kung kaya maganda rin buy toned papers 4 colored pencil, magkaiba ng approach at process ang bristol white at toned.

Why the green foundation?
its an old technique called Verdaccio, sometimes i do this especially with pastels, it creates a classic appeal and tones down bright colors

For colored pencil mas ok Bristol Vellum, ok din ung Strathmore Colored Pencil Paper at Heavyweight Drawing kasi medium surface same lang din ng texture ng vellum pero mas manipis kasi 160 gsm lng, pero great na rin sa CP.

Korek, super sensitive si pastel, kaya Frame ko sya agad, im not using fixatives, pag graphite/charcoal if i cant frame it, naka album with plastic sheets
