4:10 - the irony of all this is that, wouldn't the WBC be a good prep for the MLB regular season? You're playing against teams that are actually competing for something and want to win. The stakes are a million times higher than spring training. Plus, you get to compete against players who you might not normally see during spring training, but you might see in the regular season.
Absolutely! It’s like spring training on steroids-minus the actual steroids, of course! Just imagine the epic matchups and the rivalries that could heat things up!
The payout for the World Cup pales in comparison to what their private clubs pay. Yet all the soccer stars show up for the World Cup. It's for national pride for the most part.
The world cup is also a Fifa Sanctioned tournament, clubs literally cant stop the players from playing if the player & said national team want them to.
@@gilmendoza9196 the WBC takes place before the start of the season so it doesn't matter. It's the owners who don't care for it because they don't want to lose money if a player gets hurt.
The US's attitude toward the WBC might bite them in the butt years down the road. Infamously, the first World Cup lacked many major European national clubs because they didn't take it seriously. Perhaps England would have more than one World Cup championship if they took it seriously from the beginning. 50 years from now the WBC could be even bigger than it is now., and if the US doesn't take it seriously now then the record books in the future are going to state that Japan is a better baseball country than the US (which they already do now, btw).
I think they should run the WBC in November, just after the season ends. That way the players can still play hard without the teams being scared of injury.
@@jamesprumos7775 well they played a lot of games in domed and warm weather areas last time any way. I don’t think it’s that big of a problem. Tampa, Toronto, Houston, Dallas, LA, Miami, Milwaukee, San Diego, and Phoenix are all places that can host games. Not to mention other international locations.
@@jamesprumos7775 November is fine because that’s Spring in Australia, Japan and Korea have Dome stadiums, The USA has roofed stadiums too and the Latin Countries have great weather obviously. Weather would definitely not be an issue
I also forgot abt Paul Skenes and a bunch of other top SP, Not to mention their bullpen would b nasty. They got Josh Hader, Tanner Scott, Michael King, Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, Kirby Yates, Ryan Hersey, Mason Miller, and that’s jus to name a few.
Whoever runs the WBC knew what they were doing when they decided to hold it during spring training. . They knew teams wouldn't want to risk possibly losing a star player for what statred out as a glorified exhibition tournament. There's also the fact that American born players view winning the World Series as a bigger deal while international players are more interested in proving they've caught up with the Americans. This could change being as the WBC seems to have proven it's a legit tournament American players might start taking it more seriously. The timing of it is still wrong. I'd be fine with a two week break in the middle of the MLB season to hold the WBC. Also think they should expand the roster so teams can carry more pitchers. I wouldn't want my ace throwing more than four innings in a WBC game. There's really a lot of things wrong with it but it's still fairly young. They'll work out the kinks eventually, I think.
Perfect how it is. WBC is baseball's Olympics/World Cup whatever. Perfectly timed too in February. Maybe not "perfect" but still good enough because I'd be cool with it in November too, as long as it's not MLB season. I'm not in favor of pausing the season for weeks in the middle of summer...aren't these the boys of summer? I'm not totally against baseball in Olympics...I'd be a fan of it if MLB players weren't allowed to participate. On top of this, I don't want my guys getting injured during this, right before the dog days, the pennant chase.

Im european and if you choose not to play for your nation you are basically considered a snake

The world cup also pauses most leagues games, so you playing doesn’t hurt the club any.

I think this is how it should be in America for all American teams. But we are pretty greedy and petty when it comes to this. Pre-Maddona's

I don’t blame Bryce Harper for not playing he had surgery, but Aaron Judge is weak and a snake for not playing for Team USA last time.

But then you have the problem of navigating around the cold weather.
@@jamesprumos7775to be fair, plenty of players do play winter ball in the offseason so it may not be terrible

If you are going to play in the WBC just get ready earlier. But yeah, it’s super cool and the US should send their best
I think they might have a shot in 2026, but like you said, they have to change their attitude. But even that seems unlikely.

100 million people watching vs a population of 125 is insane

For real! He’s so dramatic. Like chill brother😂
If only team USA could recruit actual starting pitchers and not a bunch of bums
