The W vets don't hate Caitlin. They were testing her the same way they test all the top rookies. They're making the rookies prove themselves on the pro level. Flaujae interviewed Candace Parker on her podcast a couple days ago(check it out on RUclips) and asked her about the physicality in the W. Candace totally disagreed with the notion that the W is more physical now than it was when she joined the league. She mentioned how the W vets manhandled her as a rookie in 2008. Even the vets on her own team roughed her up in practice. And of course she mentioned her altercation with Detroit Shock players on Detroit's home court, which led to her team(the Sparks) brawling with the Shock. Candace had a shoulder injury from college, and played her first two pro seasons wearing a shoulder brace. And the Shock vets still came after her. 👀 So why do we expect the vets to show Caitlin and the rest of this year's rookie class any mercy?

Yeah, for the Caitlin/unrivaled stuff, I think there is validity to the point she could’ve done more to garner good will but let’s be real - everyone clowned Paige’s ESPY speech at the time, when she was the It Girl. The same people that hate CC now loved her when she wasn’t as popular. At some point, you get so big you’re just Enemy Number One and nothing you can do would really change that. And a lot of W players turned on her in the college season, before she was even in the league. I think the fact that her teammates and the secure vets like her, and it’s sort of everyone else who doesn’t shows that it’s not so much about her as a person or what she did or didn’t do, and more so about how a super hyped rookie is going to be received
I also think the "we need to chill and get what we want out of this" applies to Caitlin - as a longtime fan I totally understand frustrations that people say CC is the only good women's player, however I don't think downplaying her is the answer. Rather than whine about her getting too much attention, let us capitalize on it! Especially being all these people saying "she's not that good," "Sabrina was her before her" - anyone who watches the game knows that's not true, and people don't like being lied to!

First the WNBA & Engelbert's "genius" marketing scheme of pushing rivalries has only fueled the hate in the league toward CC. There are always going to be extreme fans on both ends who are ridiculous, but those in charge of the league should be the voice of reason in the middle, not embracing it. The league gets millions of new fans who love one player & your genius plan is to push rivalries? You embrace & praise their favorite player while also promoting many many other players as options for them to also come to know & like as well. You don't push all those new fans into an us vs them mentality on day one.
Second, the CBA should mainly about getting more money for the salary cap & getting rid of all the limitations except minimum pay. Like every other professional sports league, the salary cap need to be large enough that the top players in the league can make a lot more than every other player on the team. It encourages everyone to play their best to either get those top money spots or to keep them. And since the younger player are as much, if not more, of a draw for revenue thru attendance, viewership & sales than vets, these larger salaries should not be just for those w/4 or more years in the league. The only restriction they could add would be limiting the top salary to no more than 30%-35% of a team's total salary cap.

You can’t compare Caitlin’s first year impact y to Paige’s. Unless you can go back and have Paige first season be before Clark’s. If Paige was never hurt, and she went to the W after 4 years. That’s something that will never happen. You can compare there 1st seasons. Paige is more of a facilitator so Paige’s team should function better from the beginning. It’s not predicated on Paige scoring more points. You can’t compare the winning percentage either, unless she could somehow go to the Fever, and have the same team as Caitlin.

If all conditions need to be exactly the same in order to make a valid comparison, you could never compare any two people - which is just not how life works. You can compare first year impact on team play, individual stats, and changes in team winning percentages.
“Paige is more of a facilitator” is something Geno loves to say because Clark broke all those scoring records and he can’t bring himself to admit he overlooked her in high school. None of the stats bear that out. Paige maxed out at 5.7 APG in 2020-1, which was Clark’s lowest year at 7.1 APG (Clark maxed out at 8.9 her senior year). The difference is more stark when you consider Clark was on a team that didn’t have star shooters to facilitate to - Paige does. Paige plays within Geno’s system - which makes her look more seamless with her team, but the WNBA doesn’t have only UCONN players. She will struggle like every other rookie PG.

The issue with Chauny point about Unrivaled is Caitlin is in no win situation. The same blowback will happen if she declines to do unrivaled and it struggles

I think you all are to focused on the begative understandably because it came from every direction this season. I dont think there was overall pettiness, she was a rookie all of them got the treatment it happens.
While some players were bitter or petty not all. I think unrivaled will be managed better remember alot of this could have been tamed internally and media wise if the WNBA front office was compentent and actually cared.
Everyone is adults get the money and move on, my only issue with the TNT deal is Charles Barkley if she joins trying to spread divisiveness amoungst women which he's known to do in general.

Lots of players been specifically hating on Fever Fans, now Unrivaled doing anything to have those same fans come watch. It's just so hypocritical.

I think this is how most people feel. The problem is that too many people are getting offended at fans who are just bragging about their favorite player. There are delusional fans in every sport & they always think their favorite player or team is the best that have ever played the game & every other player or team is horrible compared to their favorite. If it wasn't for delusional fans the Detroit Lions wouldn't have survived all these years. Too often people forget the term fan is short for "fanatic."
