My Life As A Teenage Robot DESERVED Better…

- One of the most beloved shows that was treated poorly by its network was My Life As A Teenage Robot, a show about a robot built to save the world for danger... and trying to fit in at school with a normal life. So let's take a look at the story of how My Life As A Teenage Robot and how it came to its unfortunate end.
Channel Art By Jerry Meehan Развлечения
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you enjoy the video! What’s your favorite Nickelodeon Cartoon that didn’t last too long on air?
Invader Zim needed more episodes in my opinion
El Tigre and Rise of the TMNT. Both shows deserved way more
Chalk Zone was also underrated, in my opinion!
Idk tbh probably Invader Zim, Danny Phantom Chalkzone Oswald, a show called the X's and some other shows.
@@five1470 I haven't seen that show in probably 14 years and I definitely agree.
As an adult, finding out that nicktoons was basically where shows went to “die” is so wild because as a kid, I loved nicktoons since it had all of the shows I actually watched
same i literally remember only watching nick toons tbh
Funny how that worked out. All the shows Nickelodeon wanted gone were sent there but we all watched it because it had what we liked. Either the people at Nickelodeon are bad at understanding how popular a show actually is, or they're just really stupid.
I mean it makes sense bc I think you had to pay/ pay more for nicktoons so not a lot of ppl had it but they would have Nick so viewership wouldn’t be enough to make the cost worth it
Same here, it’s very wild as I remember watching practically every show nicktoons had as a kid
@The return of Mr. Tickles Agreed!
The episode where Jenny makes a living "skin suit" still haunts me to this day. It was creepy but the kind to keep you on the edge of your seat
True!!
Lol! So true...
@jordanfringe should definitely do an episode on it
Also, I was super surprised when they made a second episode of this awesome horror suit
SAME!!
I remember liking this show as a kid so much. The color palette, the lighting...shit's magnificent.
Watch Nickelodeon pull a Warner Bros. and suddenly yank this show out of obscurity, only to grossly misunderstand it and then overcompensate by overselling it.
Yep, considering how Nick is sometimes….yeah.
what show did warner do that with?
@@Jcsj_ Symbiotic Titan
@@Jcsj_ It's what they're doing with the Iron Giant.
@@eatatjoes6751 is it? I haven’t seen much about iron giant
One that always sticks out in my mind is the one where the school realizes that Jenny is technically 5 years old so they send her to Kindergarten.
"I. Am. The ro. Bot."
Jenny explaining that she was MADE 5 years ago, but she was DESIGNED as a teenager, the teacher not believing her, and then Nora coming in and saying the exact same thing, Jenny being like "I said that!" And the teacher being like "yes but you didn't have graphs"
That episode sucks
not to mention she literally murked an entire kindergarten class in dodgeball
@@thesnakbar Yeah, that’s the only good part about that episode
Same! That exact episode is the one I remember most vividly.
@@Sully_2345 i agree
i’ll never forget the episode when Jenny could control her “nerves” to make herself feel sudden pain or none at all… i loved this show!!! 💗
Remember the episode about body piercings? Lol
I think I remember actually wincing whenever she got hurt in that episode, especially with the loud buzzing sound effect that would play
@@domibark
same!!! 😅
@@alexallen126
i definitely remember seeing that 1 but i can’t remember exactly what happened…
i THINK Jenny got her belly button pierced with like, nuts & bolts or something 😂
i remember always feeling bad for Jenny because of her mother not really caring about her for who she was, but only for her technological abilities😒 BUT i loved what a rebel she was 😋
It was actually because she wanted to be tickled!!! She asked her mom to make her tickle sensors but her mom said they weren’t ready yet and Jenny stole them. Then at school the switch went from tickle to pain.
My favorite episode will _always_ be the one where Jenny scans fashion magazines and become style rivals with the Crust Cousins, just because she really put them in their place with all the cool outfit's she could just build that they could never.
the retro-futurism of this show just oozed charm and wonder. jenny deserved so much more.
Oh yeah I remember that episode. It was one of the most frequent reruns on Nicktoons.
The straight up pimp suit with the (robot) goldfish elevator boots...
This show 100% deserved better. I absolutely adored this show as a kid. It was funny, creative, the characters were great, the theme was a bop, the voice acting was fantastic, the animation and retro-futuristic art style were both unique and lovely. I loved watching reruns on Nicktoons Network (Not just Nicktoons) in my late elementary school/early middle school days.
And I remember the pilot from Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Loved that pilot showcase series as a kid too! I wish MLAATR still got the same level of love shows like Danny Phantom and Avatar get today.
My Life as a Teenage Robot is right up there with SpongeBob as 1 of Nick's BEST shows.
wonder over yonder to
I remember how much I loved this show as a kid! Brad and Jenny were so cute together. The theme song is still amazing. I wish more people remembered how great it was.
Jenny also had an adorable voice. Janice Kawaye
I liked her with Sheldon. I didn't mind if Brad and Jenny got together though.
I think you mean Sheldon and Jenny :P
I’m a 2004 kid but it’s weird that I don’t even know this show existed back then. I know lots of 2000s shows bcs I grew up with them, but this one?
@@daffa9488 yeah this show came out in like 2003
I honestly had no idea there were so few episodes. I remember thinking i'd seen every episode when I was younger, wondering why I never caught reruns of the episodes I missed. Now i'm wondering if I really did see every single episode and just didn't know it. Great video.
Thanks so much! 😄
This show is like el Tigre, it only had 26 episodes (50 segments) but it felt like more than that
@@awsomedude23456 wow, I forget about El Tigre. Loved it when I was younger!
@@awsomedude23456 so true!
@@awsomedude23456 I used to think the same thing about this for a Nick Jr. show Oswald.
The "Samurai Jack" connection explains so much! I always thought the art style was very reminiscent of Genndy Tartakovsky's shows.
And the fact that the creator worked on a few of his shows
My favorite episode has to be the one where Jenny wants to experience daydreams and eventually she over uses it which causes her to see the world around her as a Dr. Suess story! The art style in that episode was amazing!
This was one of my favorites always watched before going to elementary school. I need to rewatch the show
I remember being mesmerized by this show when I was a kid
I always watched the show during my middle and high school years.
Same
It's right up there with SpongeBob as 1 of Nick's BEST shows.
No other show really looks like it. Still love the art direction.
Agreed completely.
It totally introduced me to retrofuturism.
Ever heard of Astro Boy? That's the inspiration
It's kind of similar to The Jetsons.

Dang nick has really disrespected some of the best nicktoons:
Hey arnold: they forced hey arnold to make there movie a cinematic movie instead for a TV movie and when it didn't do well they cancled it and it took a decade for them to get there actual finale
Making fiends: this used to be the biggest nicktoon at that the time but nick said it was way to much for kids and canceled it and didn't give the creator back the rights to it
Danny phantom and Jimmy neuron:these two were also big nicktoons for the time that were out right canceled without a finale and to this day still hadn't to this day.
And there are so many more I could talk about with catdog,Harvey beaks, chalkzone proves that nick has been doing this for a long time and doesn't plan on stopping
What? Danny Phantom had a finale, everyone just hates it and pretends it doesn’t exist
@@timedragon5492 oh sorry lol i meant the creators wanted to do more like a season 4 or movie but nickelodeon just wanted to end it right there.
Yeah, if you're not spongebob you're not living for long.
@@atomic747 also fairly odd parents but that actually did end
@@atomic747 That's the thing. While SpongeBob was a great show that deserved it's praise back in the day, it had the opposite effect of being TOO successful, and Nick has seemingly held every cartoon since to those unrealistically high standards. Over 2 decades later, and SpongeBob is but a former shell of what it used to be, but I guess still does so well it will never get to end, and now we have disappointing spin-offs instead of anything new and refreshing from Nickelodeon. I will rarely watch Nick at all anymore besides the '90s throwbacks they do on their extra channels. Very sad.
I can't believe I got it right, I just really love My Life as a Teenage Robot, lol.
🙌
Bro Tuk was the funniest little dude ever 😂😂. The art style of this show is amazing!!
Lol, dude this show imo was a underrated masterpiece :D
Dude would straight up flush himself down the toilet lmao
I remember he was terrified of the ferris wheel
It kinda seems like it was ahead of its time. Cartoons and animes having 13 episode seasons is the norm now. If it came out of in the late 2010s or now it probably would've gained a stronger audience and the network might've had less of an issue with those seasonal episode counts. Hell, it has some anime vibes with the artstyle a bit. But back then, before streaming and binge watching things became the norm, you had to make double or triple that amount, which contributed to its downfall. Which is ashamed, since it seems like a good show with a lot of passion behind it.
The whole idea of a teenaged robot sounds like it was from an anime in the first place.
@@sls12III The creators did say some of their inspiration was from animes like Evangelion, so makes sense.
I think one of the most interesting parts of the show was when Jenny went to the planet of the Cluster and she finally felt like she fit in somewhere, until she learned of Vexus' plans iirc and even unknowingly befriended Vexus' daughter. It took the "we're not so different, you and I" trope to an atmospheric level. You're tempting me to get Paramount Plus now. Please review some episodes!
My favorite episode is when they introduced her sister robots, that was the best background we ever got into XJ-9 and how she became Jenny.
We're definitely gonna need more in depth content for this show. I loved it as a memory and hearing that it holds up is just fantastic
Oh man. I remember watching this all the time as a kid.
Definitely deserved better.
Was not expecting to see XJ9 again! Wonderful video dude!
I distinctly remember the dream episode creeping me out. Not so much what's being shown, but the idea of permanently being stuck in a dream while you roam around!
JAYNIAC :( )
The show had so many banger episodes that stick with ya! Thanks so much my friend! 😄
When I was a small child I had the nick dvd where it played one episode from each show (spongebob, jimmy neutron, fairly odd parents, etc.) that was semi popular at that time and so my favorite episode from my life as a teenage robot was the one where Vexus gives Jenny a bug/virus that turns her into basically a robot dog/beast.
Nick Picks would be what you are referring to, and that episode was Hostile Makeover, it was on Volume 1. Mlaatr, along with Spongebob and Danny Phantom, were on every single volume.
Nick’s Picks.
@@BlindJedi yep
@@Brewart2012 Yea, that’s what it was called! I only ever got to see volume one so yay :)
I really liked the color pallet of the show, it was a lot muddier than some of the other shows on at the time. It felt like it was steam-punk, but cleaned up a few notches.
The art style always stuck out to me with this show. A hidden gem from Nick for sure.
I remember the Fashion episode and the kindergarten episodes. Haha love it! So relatable that the teacher won’t believe her that she had an teen intellect until another adult told her.
She didn't have the diagrams lmfao. One of my favorite parts from that episode
tbf, no diagrams.
Same for Avatar The Legend Of Korra. I mean, the creators of Korra originally didn't plan on this show going on more then 1 Season, but then Nickelodeon demanded 3 more which the writers rushed to make, but the final Season didn't even air on television because the network pretty much gave up on promoting it.
I remember Legend of Korra would always be on the weekends or times where people wouldn't be able to watch.
Yeah, I'm not exactly a fan of Korra but Nick really did them dirty, the whole situation was complete bullshit
Sound like a kid yelling about wanting a brand new toy which he’ll get tired of in a week.
Nick definitely screwed them by doing that. Especially not airing the final season on TV as well.
the Art Deco shapes, color palettes and textures were my favorite part of this incredible cartoon! it's actually what made me love that specific graphic design historical movement. That and Batman: The Animated Series ❤
The aesthetic of this show is just incredible to me! The episode that I always came back to was the snowball fight episode that gets derailed when the robot emissary from the Cluster comes to invite Jenny to Cluster Prime. It was the first introduction to the Cluster iirc, and I also really related with Tuck as a younger brother in that episode. Also I strongly remember him getting taken over by the robot briefly.
Didn't realize how much I'd missed this show!! Iconic stuff. Loved it growing up, appreciated everything from the story lines to the unique art style.
Dude I'm stoked that this series is covered on the channel, here's hoping Jenny makes a playable appearance in Nick All Stars Brawl, let alone a comeback of sorts. 🤞
If it's makes you feel any better, I decided to watch this show after this video and wasn't disappointed (well except the fact that it was too short, pain)
Glad to see another well-produced video on this series! I was 14 when it came out, and I still think about what it could have been, or rather what it SHOULD have been.
That first part gave out such an unexpected nostalgia. I loved MLAATR when I was a child. It made me so happy you gave it a place in your channel. Thank you!
Yes please do individual episode reviews! This show is in my top ten mainly thanks to the atmosphere and art style, I just can't get enough of it!
I remember when this show premiered I just started High School. I absolutely adored it! I loved the writing, the art style, and being a social misfit, I found Jenny’s attempts to try and fit in in school relatable. Unfortunately only 13 episodes where available at the time and, after waiting months hoping for more, I eventually gave up.
By the time new episodes had rolled around, I had kinda forgotten about the show had had completely moved onto watching anime at that point.
It wasn’t until about a decade later when I finally revisited it. I found myself binge watching a bunch of western cartoons I loved when I was younger, and MLATR was among them. I was stoked to discover more episodes had (eventually) been made, so not only was it a blast revisiting those 13 I saw ages ago, but loads of new content as well.
But I wanna know is: what the hell is Nick’s problem!? Back in the 90s they gave all their shows a chance in the spotlight and find an audience, even when Rugrats was their main cash cow. But after the success of Spongebob, they don’t even try anymore! It’s like if a new show doesn’t get the same amount of ratings as SB when it premieres, they immediately can it. Like, of course the new show isn’t going to be a mega hit right way! Hell, it even took SB time to find its audience! The fact that they treat their animation talent like shit doesn’t help either.
Anyway, thank you for reminding me, I need to still grab this show on DVD for my collection. If it’s out of print now, then I definitely need to get it right away.
EDIT: It appears my procrastination has bit me in the behind, some thieves…I mean, sellers…online are already charging $500+ for a single season. F****.
I loved this show, and actually liked how later episodes had Sheldon as a bit of a main character. His creepy factor lowered a bit as his crush now didn't mind him hanging around. I mean he was still a little creepy but it was nice change. Some of the most ridiculous gadgets that'd just fold out of her made me think of inspector gadget, and that's just great. I miss Jenny and wonder if a revival is possible, or even worth it. I think it deserves a chance at least.
Man this was actually one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I just love every aspect of this show. The characters, the writing, the art style, just everything about it I love. I definitely think its one of Nickelodeon’s best shows and Im very sad to see Nick doesn’t give the show the love and attention it deserves.
Some episodes I remember fondly are the ones where Jenny gets a suit to appear like a normal girl, the fashion episode, the one where Jenny’s English disk goes missing and she can only speak Japanese, and the one with the communists mickey mouses.
My life as a teenage robot was one of my favorite nicktoons growing up
It's great to see more and more people coming out with their experiences with shows like these. I always feel like I was one of the only ones that's watched these shows..
I liked MLaaTR, but I LOVE Mina and the Count. Those shorts were so cute and so charming, and I really wish it would’ve gotten a full show too
This show always stood out a cut above the rest to me when i was a kid/teen. Still to this day I get completely lost in that art style. Explains my obsession with going to sleep to those retrofuturism sleepcore videos here on youtube 🤣
this show was engraved into my brain at the tender age of 4. I haven't really revisited it since I was a kid, but it holds a special place in my heart, and the aestethic of it has been a big inspiration for my art through the years. I also really enjoyed it for its themes, I always had a thing for stories with robots and ghosts trying to relate to the human experience.
I haven’t seen no channel cover this show yet! Thank you for my nostalgia
Thanks so much for these great videos Jordan. Always brings back so many memories.
Vexus was always my favorite character/villain on this show, mainly because she was voiced by the late, great Eartha Kitt.
I remember that in Asia, the episodes were either at lunchtime or at really late hours and sometimes I would sneak in to the living room just to watch it at night. The ep with the body snatching skin suit really fucked me up and I think I had nightmares about it when I was a kid
i'd love to see you do more in depth videos on specific episodes. loved watching this as a kid
Still waiting on a reboot..it's been 15 yrs! This show is STILL, 100% my absolute favorite. The art style was unique, the sound effects, the voice acting, it was all awesome...thanks so much for giving this show the attention it deserves (same applies for Class of 3000), friend 🥰..My favorite episode was when they recreated the story of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf", and Season 1's design is my absolute favorite of the 3 short-lived seasons that came out.
Please talk about the Mighty B! I miss that show and wished more people talked about it. I tried looking up that 'Buzz Off' song from the special about those rival Flies girl scouts, and no one has ever posted it.
I wish people were talking about it
Dragonfiles is still my favorite ep till this day,
This show was a brief but defining moment in my childhood 🥲
I love this show so freaking much. I remember it was one of the shows I watched all the time on Nick, and it pains me that it wasn't more well-known. Jenny is such a fantastic character and was so relatable for me both as a child and as an adult.
This is just the channel of pure nostalgia for me. I’d forgotten about the three cats that lived root beer and I didn’t like chalk zone when I was young but now it’s fun to see
This was my absolute favorite cartoon when I was a kid, and too this day I still rewatch episodes from time to time because I still hold a lot of love for it.
I remember liking this show a lot as a kid. Glad to see it getting some love.
And…. I just remembered how much I liked this show ❤️😭 Thank you for this video.
Thanks so much for watching! 😄
This show has such a special place in my heart, aside from being a banger it made me realize later in life that not every boy aspired to be a cute teenage robot girl when they're older. From there on it snowballed pretty hard. The art also managed to creep in all my school notebook doodles and probably even does today to an extent, this show needs more public recognition. Great video as always, cheers!
i remember this show when it was still in the tv but that was years ago,i always have memories of shows that i have seen but dont remember there name but from you i can remember all of them like My Life As A Teenage Robot,Camp Lazlo,El Tigre,RobotBoy,The Replacements and i love your videos,i hope that you can make more in the future
I love this show and glad people remember it
IM ON TOP OF THE SQUIRREL MOM!!!!
I so love this show! Glad you can get all seasons ( and the TV movie) on Dvd!
Omg yes I loved that show! Please make more analysis videos on it 😭 My personal favorite episode was the one where she gets the skin suit and it becomes sentient and evil. It definitely spooked me as a kid but as piqued my interest in horror a bit
Definitely would love more videos on this show. You just unlocked so many memories for me.
My Life As A Teenage Robot and Batman Beyond were shows with an interesting future look.
I think Rob Renzetti also worked on a few episodes of Batman the Animated series at some point during his career.
I still remember that episode of jenny and the rock men 💀
Ah yes THAT EPISODE
I remember really enjoying the imagery of the episode where she got a makeover from the mechanic guys haha. loved the fuzzy dice they gave her.
You have gained much respect from me for not only making this video, but making it during the month of Teenage Robot's anniversary. Wonderful content man! Keep it up!
This show was a hidden gem.
Finally someone remembers this show
This was my FAVORITE show when I was in elementary school!! I'm 25 now and still love it. It was so well-written and entertaining, while not being another obnoxious "kids" show. I would love to see you do more videos about it!!
One of my favorite shows as a kid and looking back it still holds up. The art style was awesome
This was a great show; it deserves a revival.
One of my favorite shows ever!!
They did this show so dirty!!!
I love this show. Its theme song still lives rent-free in my head. Everything about this show was a total masterclass and it sucks how Nickelodeon treated it
i LOVE the backgrounds. literally my favorite aesthetic
I love the retro-futuristic Streamline-Modern aesthetics of My Life as a Teenage Robot. It reminds me of 1930s science fiction films.
I love this show. I did watch it recently. The one episode where she "saves" all the robots from the carnival. Thats like saving animals from the zoo. But its good she eventually let them go back. You should do American Dragon Jake Long. I loved that show as a kid as well.
Oh man Jordan out here activating some of my locked away memories. Thanks for this man!
Thanks so much for watching! 😄
Please make more videos about this show. This video kinda woke up old memories I'd love to explore again.
I loved this show so much. 40 episodes within 6 years though?! Someone's lying. That is absolutely terrible! At least 70 episodes or something. This show was hilarious and creative. It really deserved more.
Well...... It got an extra episode.. on newgrounds.....
MYaaTR really was that big click for me to be like "oh man it makes me wanna get into animation!" only to realize it takes a lot of work and a crew and as a hermit loner that's not gonna happen.
but yeah still it deserved WAY better than any nicktoons out there.
I’m 26 now and for whatever reason, I can remember where I was, what I was doing, and what I ate for dinner the night that this show premiered on TV. Again, not sure why, as I can’t remember the same for any other childhood shows off the top of my head. It was real good
My favorite “blink and you’ll miss it” moment has to be the scene from the episode with the Jenny dolls where Tuck checks the back for batteries and he replicates Andy’s mom in Child’s Play
My favorite episode was one that was seemingly a second-part of a completely unrelated episode: Jenny accidentally sends Sheldon to space and in a matter of days Sheldon is able to come back to Earth *as an aged old man*
oh my goddd that episode was so genius. wondered if anyone else remembered it, it was so good haha
Use to watch this classic show all the time as a kid , a shame nick treated it like utter shit.
I know this is late, I only found your channel the other day, but I remember this show and I loved it.
omg I loved that series as a child. I think my fav. bit was the intro. I still sometimes hear it in my head out of the blue :D
My favorite episode is where she fights those rock guys and they take advantage of her
Nice
I'm surprised there weren't more cursed comments like this here.
Oh no-
"there are 40 episodes"
people who have lived on the incognito side of the internet: there is another :>
Oh no you don't mean...
Ur talking about the pilot episode
...right?
We rooooock.
this series was great, i had a really hard time learning, but mostly concentrating in my youth. this series, while i didnt always have the concentration for it, was one of the better series to keep me calm and sitting still.
There are so many episodes that stood out to me, but the fashion episode and the skin suit episode are... really up there.
Others have mentioned how scary the skin suit one is, but... I remember the fashion one so vividly bc of how Jenny looks at the end. It's a good ep showing how both the fashion industry and peer pressure affect someone's self-esteem.
My favorite episode is the one where she gets attacked by a gang of rock monsters
We don’t talk about that episode. Not after the abomination it spawned.
I really loved this show, it deserves A LOT more love! Jenny's struggle with trying to pass as human can resonate with the Trans Community, even though it wasn't the creator's original intent. Subtle things like Jenny reminding her mother to call her by her new name, and discomfort with her body. This show was really ahead of its time!
uh
🗿
Oh, I never thought about it that way
Don't start😡
I painted Jenny as my senior parking spot , this was my favorite cartoon as a little girl, and it still holds up to why it was so amazing as an adult 🤍
I saw exactly 1 episode of this show as a kid, but the artstyle sure was memorable. RUclips recently reminded me of this show. This video sealed the deal, I'm watching the show, thanks
Idc how late this is. This stands as my favorite cartoon from my childhood and only had 2.5 seasons. And for that i cry. Also recently found and started binging your videos, keep being cool
Man I remember watching this and then perusing RUclips and then being traumatized by zonetans...video...on it
this used be my shit
Same here man.
This was my favorite show, its so sad that we didnt get to see more of it
I remember a particular episode called Daydream Believer where Jenny gets the ability to dream in a way, which eventually ends in complications. The main thing I remember about it is that it translated Dr. Suess like art into its own style and makes for a truly interesting visual combination. Overall loved the show!
