The ministers strongly denied it and even ridiculed me for saying so. I resigned as a preacher because of the Godlessness in our churches. Within ten years, seven out of the nine chapels are now closed, the remaining two are barely attended but the Methodists know best, they keep on powering ahead with the garbage that is destroying them. December last year they decreed that ministers should refrain from using therms “ husband,” or “ wife” because they were not everyone’s shared experience! Accountant, footballer, check out operative, lawyer, refuse collector, doctor, nurse and thousands more beside are even less everyone’s experience but Methodists haven’t decreed they mustn’t be used.
Thank God for articulate, wise and faithful Catholics like Dr Ashenden. When I am tempted to despair of the modernist Church, I listen to him and am buoyed up again.

There is nothing wrong with improvement or change for the better. Applying criticism to the C of E, in my opinion, the C of E should be disestablished, separated from government (political) suzerainty, but I am a Yank. We have the 1st Amendment over here.🙂

And for most of that period the majority of people have been in the main illiterate, ergo as sheep requiring a Good Shepherd, and despite humankind's demon driven and accentuated frailties, hence the attacks, schisms and so forth within what is a divinely instituted framework - they got one. In these latter times the people can perhaps become more involved, while acknowledging that the Holy Catholic Church is not a democracy, but a theocracy. The C of E was created by a man, a madman of power, political clout and persuasion, his craving for power being the prime reason for he creating it, and thus until these very times the C of E, often and all so sadly toes the party line in preference to Christ's line. Instead he closed the doors of the churches some time ago, turned left to assist people of another race and creed. Most of it worldwide is not. It has organized into the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans and the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches and growing. In the U.K. there is the Anglican Mission in England. In Europe there is the Anglican Network. The Church of England, Anglican Church of Canada, and Episcopal Church in the U.S. are declining. On the positive side, adherence to traditional biblical morals is much alive.🙂

Cathedrals are thriving and they are some of the most liberal places in the Anglican Church. I know most of the clergy in my own Cathedral. Prayerful, generally loving, utterly committed to serving Christ, and fed, morning and evening from the source, as you put it. Why do you need to attack other Christians? The modern church thinks it is following the Gospel but it’s not. It’s difficult in today’s world to preach the Gospel because it goes against what the modern world wants. This is why it’s so difficult to be a Christian now. People think we are hateful when in reality we are trying to save souls. And after all, that is the primary mission of the church.

In the past, after the English 'Reformation' and beyond, the one thing the Church of England had going for it was the attention it paid to the Bible. Even now, when reading from the Bible during a service, clergy and readers will name the 'chapter and verse' they are using and in many churches even the page number of the reading in copies of the Bible available in the pews. This allows the congregation to check for themselves that the reading was correct. In other words, no 'misinformation.' Therefore, for Welby to use a parable - the actual words of Jesus - as the basis for the promotion of a political ideology, is a betrayal of the Church he leads. Jesus said 'My sheep know my voice.' I understand now what He meant.
Unfortunately, the world; especially the Christian World, has lost the understanding and fear of hell. Without a true understanding of hell, there is no understanding of heaven and salvation of the human soul. Lord Jesus, forgive us of our sins.

It seems we are at a Cultural impasse which, at the very least, requires careful discussion, and representation by parties who should be able to defend and maintain and preserve, the unity that has come out of church and state and essentially bears on creating a climate of tolerance, so that unity has remained possible. I’m 85 and was a lifelong Episcopalian, but 7 years ago I left the Episcopal church because the Anglican Communion has lost its way.

There is nothing wrong with improvement or change for the better. Applying criticism to the C of E, in my opinion, the C of E should be disestablished, separated from government (political) suzerainty, but I am a Yank. We have the 1st Amendment over here.🙂

And for most of that period the majority of people have been in the main illiterate, ergo as sheep requiring a Good Shepherd, and despite humankind's demon driven and accentuated frailties, hence the attacks, schisms and so forth within what is a divinely instituted framework - they got one. In these latter times the people can perhaps become more involved, while acknowledging that the Holy Catholic Church is not a democracy, but a theocracy. The C of E was created by a man, a madman of power, political clout and persuasion, his craving for power being the prime reason for he creating it, and thus until these very times the C of E, often and all so sadly toes the party line in preference to Christ's line. Most of it worldwide is not. It has organized into the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans and the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches and growing. In the U.K. there is the Anglican Mission in England. In Europe there is the Anglican Network. The Church of England, Anglican Church of Canada, and Episcopal Church in the U.S. are declining. On the positive side, adherence to traditional biblical morals is much alive.🙂

The modern church thinks it is following the Gospel but it’s not. It’s difficult in today’s world to preach the Gospel because it goes against what the modern world wants. This is why it’s so difficult to be a Christian now. People think we are hateful when in reality we are trying to save souls. And after all, that is the primary mission of the church.

Please stop dismissing Christians who are doing the same work, but may approach it with different understandings of the Bible. In the past, after the English 'Reformation' and beyond, the one thing the Church of England had going for it was the attention it paid to the Bible. Even now, when reading from the Bible during a service, clergy and readers will name the 'chapter and verse' they are using and in many churches even the page number of the reading in copies of the Bible available in the pews. This allows the congregation to check for themselves that the reading was correct. In other words, no 'misinformation.' Therefore, for Welby to use a parable - the actual words of Jesus - as the basis for the promotion of a political ideology, is a betrayal of the Church he leads. Jesus said 'My sheep know my voice.' I understand now what He meant.

When Teresa May first joined the Conservative Party at the tender age of 13 or thereabouts her father, a parish priest, advised her to tread warily. The parish priest was there for all the parishioners and the rectory's impartiality must be upheld. There are many priests in the CofE who could learn from this not least Justin Welby.
As Welby continues to dismantle the Church of England, it is time that all the lands, churches and treasures owned by the Catholic Church prior to the Reformation and dissolution of the Abbeys should be returned. They are not for Welby to either bequeath or sell.

You are so right Gavin. It seems we are at a Cultural impasse which, at the very least, requires careful discussion, and representation by parties who should be able to defend and maintain and preserve, the unity that has come out of church and state and essentially bears on creating a climate of tolerance, so that unity has remained possible.
It belongs to the people as part of their heritage and If the Archbishop won't throw his weight behind that, it certainly diminishes the role of the church in the public square, and the King, and makes it easier for the suppression of free speech rights. It's very, very extremely concerning to see him fomenting intolerance for Christians, when he is the head of the Christian Church in Britain.
