Love this and thanks for the lyrics.
Weird if this is 1987 with the show having already opened and Sarah sings lyrics for the song that were never in the show. Wishing originally had the lyrics ‘This is where the story finishes, this is where the memories end’ but these were changed literally a day or two before the first preview to ‘wishing you were somehow here again, wishing you were somehow near’

James Barfield Yes, for years I've wondered why Sarah sang the old lyrics for this performance when the show was already well under way with the revised version of the song. Does anyone know the answer?

@@ItSpeaksToMe It seems that wishing remain the most problematic song from the show.
Indeed, as James mentioned, the lyrics changed a day or two prior to the first preview to what we hear now. And by listening to the preview audio, I also find the tempo is much slower than it is on the recording. Sarah did a lukewarm rendition of the song in the first preview, and it is so slow that I almost fall asleep listening. Towards the end, she almost couldn't catch her breath. In another audio listed to be Oct. 16th, 1986, she did a fantastic rendition of the song in the slow tempo with bell-like voice and heart-wrenching tone.
However, a few weeks later, when the cast was doing the recording, the tempo for this song has speed up. Personally, I believe the Oct. 16th rendition is much better than the official recording. But the team seems to think the other way around.
Perhaps they are not 100% happy with the lyrics. So by the time they planned the broadway production, there are lyrics changes here and there. Noticably in think of me, all i ask of you, point of no return. Probably, some revision is done to Wishing. And they tried it out on this Royal Variety performance. To me, this version of lyrics tries to tell more about her specific feeling towards her father, or we could say it tries to be more story-driven or character-driven than the poetic yet not-so-specific final lyrics, but the result isn't quite compelling. So they changed the lyrics.
Personally, I agree with most of the reviews comparing the lyrics difference between London and Broadway. They said, the lyrics are just different, neither better nor worse.

I saw the video of Sarah doing the song in a local cemetery..she laid flowers on the grave of her father Charles Daae..the lyrics sounded so different.

I love it! Wonderful performance. I wish if I could find the lyrics, what was the song originally called?
