yes, thanks to you and your son! awesome build. i supported it on Lego ideas months ago. hoping it makes it to the 10k. anyone who has a LEGO city would love to have this in their city. i know i want it!
Great work! I have a 75% complete Technic-scale trash truck that's been sitting around for two years, so when I found your completely functional, minifig-scale truck it blew my mind. Support!
I was expecting some really complicated design with multiple systems to do different things, but the simplicity and ingenuity it all being in just one contraption was impressive
This is actually a similar concept to a gbc mechanism where a lift arm does nothing until a ball falls into, when it lifts it up and deposits it in a similar fashion. It works with a piston though, not a bevel gear.
Yes, it's the Akiyuki 'stuck ball' GBC, also came to my mind when looking at the garbage truck video, very nice compact design and function in the truck. ruclips.net/video/4JeHGJJORrI/видео.html
I could see someone rigging this up with tracks underneath a road in a Lego city, and then have the truck move down the street picking up and dumping trash. Someone please do that!
The simplicity of this is actually genius, and to make a mechanism that works so believably and flawlesy and keep the vehicle minifigure scale!? The whole thing is astounding and I wil absolutely be supporting this.
That mechanism is absolutely fucking ingenious with the way it uses the closing of the two arms as a locking mechanism to force the whole assembly to start rotating right as they close.
When I was young I built an enormous cargotrainstation, but I didn’t have (a good) garbage truck. I wish this moc was uploaded back then, child me would’ve been very happy...
Lego has decided to release a technic garbage truck (42167) based similarly to the functions of this garbage truck. Obviously someone in lego saw this garbage truck.
Well obviously, if it reached 10.000k and wasn't chosen as an Ideas set instead. Why pay the fan designer if they can make it themselves and get some cash from Mack as a licensing partner in the process?
Dang, this set got 10,000 supporters but wasn't approved. If it had, that would have been AMAZING because, well, it incorporates a simple LEGO Technic mechanism into a LEGO System set! Such a thing has become unheard of!
Millions of years of human development and then this creation is born! It really is an amazing use of a very small selection of lego parts. Simplification of that mechanical process whilst still allowing it to fit inside a small set like this. I really hope lego make it and also consider other ways to use similar mechanics on other models.
I do beleive (and hoping) that this design may be submitted to the series 4 bricklink designer program. to see this become alive again would be very exciting.
I would have absolutely loved it when I was a kid, as I was always captured by the scenery objects (here: trash) in Lego magazines. Many loose pieces always made it more immersive to play than just imagining there's something in there. Here's to hoping my kids will love this as well.
I'm a little late to the party here but this is an incredible design! I love the way the gears work in tandem to pick up the cans. Super clever! Hopefully Lego picks this up and puts it into production. Thanks for posting!
