      They didn't explain it but from the way they're taking, Both Ken and Austin couldn't check the prices of the parts they chose and Austin couldn't check the year a part was released. Ken chose the 3050 because it was new and cheap and since he can't check price to performance calculators, he went with his gut to get the cheapest new card he could find, being last year's 3050, still in stock at stores and the lowest end model.

    In Austin's defense, old PC parts prices are always ridiculous. Sellers think they have a gold mine just because they are PC components. It's cheaper to buy 2 whole PCs build the one you want out of the parts, then sell the donor PC for about half the money back if you wait a little bit. I got my $1600 PC for ~$450 doing this method(used parts, 2 PCs, sold the one with the parts I didn't want for a little bit to recoup some money for an upgrade). I hate spending $300/components on new items(exaggerated)

    • @testtest8399
      @testtest8399 Месяц назад

      Yeah, sometimes people price used old components ridiculously, for example when I was building my last PC(had budget constraints) I had to pick between new and used, honestly I have no problems with buying used(when price is decent), but when I seen they want pretty much the same amount for used vs new I went with new and we are talking about components that were 2-3 years old, I found new for 170€ and used best price was 150€, like honestly I don't give a crap that you bought it for 400€, new one is currently 170€ and you are selling 3 year old USED part for 150€, obviously I will spend 20€ extra and buy new part with 3y warranty, couldn't care less what you paid for it 3 years ago. Most of parts were priced in that 90% of brand new part range and no f*ing way I'm spending 90% of price of brand new part for 3 years or older part, just no way. Sadly only component I bought used was GPU(which is still working perfectly fine) which was (most likely) miner card RX 580 8GB for 70€ 2 or 3 years ago(so nothing fancy).

      Well, when you think about it from the perspective of absolute age though Austin could've ALMOST had that RAM in his 10-year-old build so it makes sense that when limits were set that components for pro build had to be new, it makes sense to punish for that.

    • @cttommy73
      @cttommy73 5 месяцев назад +2

      But they HAVE stipulated that the parts have a certain timeline. Performance wise, it can be considered fairly new, but the point is the timing. I mean, would you say something from nearly 10 years ago is new? No, of course not. If it was just performance, yeah, it wouldn't warrant, but than, if that is the case, the guy doing the pro challenge could just pull the most powerful card they own from like 5 to 10 years ago with nearly the same performance for way less. Which would be unfair.

    • @nelsing1978

    So many npcs here bashing Austin for 780 choice and choosing 980 instead dont know anything about release dates
    First of all. 980 and 980 ti were ANNOUNCED 2014 and came summer of 2015.
    Second of all Ken made a wrong choice on the cpu. Ryzen 5600 and 5700x series came 2022. He is actually correct.
    What he is wrong about is that 5600X came in 2020.
    So basically he isnt wrong just confused.
    Also that Fan choice Austin had is awful. He could have EASILY chosen stock cooler for intel or some older one. He already got a point deduction anyhow. And that amount of ram is pointless. 16 gb ram Ddr3 easily handles ddr4.
    So he basically wasted 110$ on literally nothing.

    I was surprised Ken didn't go all-out with brand new, top-of-the-line parts. It was a clear Pro vs. Broke showdown, and I expected something closer to $2,000, not $638. Austin, on the other hand, came very close! I think he should've gotten points for making his build work in an older case. The extra time he invested deserves recognition. Imagine a challenge: Pro vs. Broke vs. Marketplace. Austin, Ken, and Matt each build a PC, but the twist is we don't know who gets which category. Austin might surprise everyone with a high-end build, Ken could go the resourceful Marketplace route, and Matt might land somewhere in between. It would be a fun way to see their different approaches and how they tackle the challenge!

This caused confusion because the previous gen Ryzen CPUs and previous gen Nvidia GPUs are still being sold brand new at most places that sell components.

    An interesting solution to the disparity here would be to require the pro to build the smallest setup possible and the broke to either have no size restriction or build the biggest setup possible.

    I guess I'm just confused with the performance calculation. Cuz the 3050 was over 4x the cost of the 780, but only got double the performance, yet still won? And the 5600 was 7x the cost of the 3930k with only double the performance again...

    This should have called Old vs New Parts. Keep the same budget for each build and see if high end old part compete with new low end parts.

    New Challenge! Put Vista back onto that machine and do modern gaming. The pins on the headers should be close enough to connect too.
