for everyone that can’t find the recipe:
- 2 teaspoons of Agar Agar
- 120g Water (i added 6 teaspoons instant kiwi iced tea powder to it, for taste and color, of course optional)
- 200g Sugar
- food coloring is as well optional
- optional some lemon juice, I eyeball the amount
from here on you can follow Emmy's recipe
WHAT RECIPE?! There isn’t one listed ANYWHERE that I can find!
@@teeniequeenie8369 Google
Thanks, I’m trying it now so hope it works
you're a Hero!
What about the flavoring?!
My favorite version has been to boil some orange peel in the water for 5-10 min, adding an Anise star for a minute at the end . Strain, put back in the pan, add agar agar and continue
Oh that sounds brilliant
hey i know it was a really long time ago but how much water are you supposed to use with one bad of agar agar powder?
can you attempt making Turkish delight?
Yessssss
Ohh hi i am Turkish lol
Like a gummy
i wanna see that!!!
Oh yes made that and its awesome
It would be cool to make cinnamon-flavored dark red "cinnabar" ones! Oooohh or rose flavored "rose quartz"... I think there would be many rock pun candy varieties.
I was thinking of rose flavour too! How about violet-flavoured amethyst? It wouldn't be very punny, but it would sure taste good :) Cinnabar sounds delicious...great, now I'm hungry. lol
Great ideas! I have to try these
yummy
Awesome Idea
Orange blossom water or rose water.
If you just did one color for each batch ... I wonder if you could put kool-aid packs in the mixture?!?! That would give alot of flavor and the sugar you put in would be perfect. Hmmm. You shouldtry it! Haha. GREAT video!!! Much Love😁❤💚
WhitDog WhatsUp You could also make separate colors and swirl them together in a larger pan to achieve a similar gemstone look!
i should have read down lol
Deku Kitty ..... yeeeeeah.... I thought about that about a min ago. Haha. It would be super cool!!😁❤💚
Majickk haha.... great minds😉. I'm surprised she didn't mention it. She has used kool-aid a few times already for different things. Haha😁💚
Or the koolaid liquid that you just add water to!
6:29 Your description of these candies and treats also applies to people.
Whoa! As a thai people, I'm actually surprised to see this recipe. It's like a modified version of a traditional snack call 'woon-grob' (วุ้นกรอบ: basically means 'crunchy agar-agar'). Guess I have something to do this weekend. :D
I wonder how it would taste with pandan flavouring? There's a vietnamese dessert that uses that as well, and I think the flavouring would work...
what is the recipe? I tried looking but couldn’t find it.
I love how Emmy does research behind her cooking. She always puts so much effort into her work and doesn’t get the recognition she deserves.
This is a classic malaysian dessert. Used them as my wedding gifts to the guests. Shape em using rose shaped mould. We call it agar agar kering. Means dried agar agar. Oh, we put flavoring too. Love pineapple flavor!!
Can you use any kind of juice?
Hi! I am considering the same thing (making them for wedding favors!) how long did it take you to make these?
How fun!!! I saw the Instagram photos and was so interested in seeing what new thing you were trying.
Yay!!!
I just can’t even describe how much I love you.
😊
As a lab manager I loved you referencing Petri dishes. 😊 fun fact, a lot of the growth media that are solidified with agar agar are called broth. 😉
Pro tip: agar does not solidify more when cooked longer (unlike gelatin), just add more!
With 6 you can kill the Avengers.
Not the right stone thanos
Too soon
Oh man.you're bringing alot of pain back.
Pls stop
Noooo not the Avengers! They should kill Thanos!
PLEASSSSE retry the raindrop cake with the Japanese Agar Agar! I think it would work for that particular project, VERY well and I'd love to see it!
Ashawyn she already nailed it
I wonder if you could use a candy oil? If you want a flavor it just takes a couple drops.
Cori Butler also cool aid!
I love making candies and I had to try this, so now I have a batch that’s been drying out for 2 days so far. I added bubblegum flavouring and a sprinkle of citric acid to the mixture just before pouring it into a dish. The outer layer hasn’t completely crystallised yet as it is still a bit early, but I have tasted one and I’m pretty happy with how they’re coming along. I think they’ll end up similar in taste/texture to jelly beans.
Or hell, extracts like pandan and vanilla...
It would taste good too.
@@TM-lw8xo Sounds nice. How was the finished product?
I just thought that myself. My mom used to make flavored candies at home with those flavor essences/oils or whatever in the little dram bottles. That would give these a great flavor. I’m sooo trying this!
Omg like orange slices? Lol the candy my husband and kids LOVE them we are going to have to try 💖💖💖💖
Imagine having a bunch of these on a decorated tray at a party
Yes but instead of water, made with vodka :D !
Toni Stark Was just thinking that ^^ 😂
Toni Stark hell yeah would eat
if they are high they might choke on them
" Did she just eat one of the decorative rocks. ?!"
WE DID IT GUYS, 1M SUBSCRIBERS IM SO HAPPY FOR EMMY, IVE BEEN HERE SINCE 2010 YOU HAD VERY LITTLE SUBSCRIBERS THEN AND NOW YOUR HUGE ON RUclips CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎈🎊🍾
Japanese agar pieces look like sea glass.
Totally, the colors were so vibrant.
Only Emmy can demonstrate and explain textures and flavors so you can actually imagine them yourself. I feel like I had a taste of these just from hearing you explain what they're like lol
I wonder what would happen if you mixed the two brands of agar agar together. Best of both?
Jahmocha ii
Jahmocha I’d guess probably worst of both lol, it’d probably end up cloudy, but not as cloudy as the telephone, but still wouldn’t set up perfectly, but maybe a bit better than the Japanese brand
This is what i was thinking too. Im going to find how many agar agar powders i can find in the asian market and give this a try
Good thing I didn’t order a “Japanese” version... I’m not getting the telephone brand till after I get the.. “normal” brand I guess?? Idk
Well.. I ordered both
We... are the crystal jells 😂
THATS WHY THE PEOPLE ON THIS WORLD!

Hilarious 😂
I was just singing that! My daughter and I are going to Beach City Con and I'm definitely making these to snack on for the drive to VA Beach.
Literally tried reading this as that venom scene and it took me a sec 😂😂😂
I need to press "confirm" for my Masters application. But I'm too nervous so I came here to just relax with Emmy :) #priorities
T LK you got this, homie. Go get that degree!
much love
WHOOT!! Congratulations! You got this ^^! Proud of you (though i don't know you, but I am still proud!).
Same I just got into my dream undergrad program and im very stoked but nervous
T LK You GO girl! My oldest grandson is in college now. He pushed himself thru one whole year of excruciating cramming to graduate high school and hold down a job. His Brazilian girlfriend kept the reins tight lol! They are together at school now.
The reason I am so tickled? And I root for YOU a fellow Emmy lover?
My gson was expelled from KINDERGARTEN. This is the struggle we all went thru for the next 11yrs. He was sent for the last year to a school for kids who needed one on one from non-related helpers etc. All in one year he not only did what he did but he actually had good enough grades to get into college!
Now his bro is in similiar trouble. I hope where he goes will help him. They were both ADHD but the younger boy is also on the autism spectrum.
My granddaughter is an honors student. For years now. Plays in orchestra and sings. I hope she will be ok in that big old crappy school by herself is all.
Anyway sorry I wrote a book.
Just wanted to encourage.😻🎓👍✌
I’ve been making these for about a year now, dozens of batches, I use a tablespoon of natural strawberry extract and they have a much better flavor! Very beautiful and addictive!
how much water do i put? for a bag of agar agar ?
@@amelinnorthwind I only use a tablespoon of agar with two cups of water and four of sugar.
@@gelflingmama okay thank you!!
@@amelinnorthwind no problem! I simmer the agar and water first, for 4-5 minutes, then stir the sugar until it’s completely absorbed by the water, then I cook it on medium high (like barely boiling,) for 6 minutes. Comes out perfectly every time!
@@gelflingmama Hi! What strawberry flavoring did you use? 😊
Who else is getting ASMR vibes when Emmy ate the first stone?!?!?!?
*crunch, crunch, crunch*
Yes and when she was playing with them on the plate
You would enjoy the hanse channel
El Nino so unnecessarily rude
El Nino just a comment dude🙅
I made them with flavored jello powders by adding more unflavored gelatin and sugar to give it a more firm texture. Tastes much better than just sugar and got to mix and swirl different colors! Would love to see emmy try it as well 😘
Do you mind elaborating?
Lorann candy flavors are great - just a few drops will flavor a whole batch however you like. I've used them for homemade gelatin and they'd be perfect for this.
I cannot tell you how excited I am to see these recipes, because I desperately want to do every one, but I'm deathly allergic to gelatin! So when I learned that Agar Agar is vegetarian, I was so pumped! I'm totally gonna make this, thank you Emmy!
everything Emmy see’s is always “gorgeous” or “beautiful”, she’s the sweetest!
These are so pretty! I bet they set better on dry days so maybe I’ll wait till this humid summer weather is over before attempting lol. The crunching sound was so satisfying 🍬
Yay love seeing when you upload!! Those are beautiful.. sad to eat such pretty looking yumminess lol hope you’re having an amazing night. 😊
Thanks, hope you're having a good night as well. 😊
Omg her videos are always amazing to watch and her voice and even her crunching is so ASMR!
Emmy! You made it to 1 million subscribers! Congrats! 🎉
I just wanna say thank you! The past few years I’ve started my food quest and cooking quest! I’ve tried exotic fruits and even bugs! The whole world of cooking and tasting has opened up immensely caz of u!
so cooool😳 who comes up with these kind of creations!
Humans !!
Julija M It was probably just an accident that turned out great.
Jesus. Jesus did it. 😐
1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS?! CONGRATS EMMY!!!
Jello emmy! yes try to remake both the raindrop cake and the crystals please.
Hmm... since agar agar has a higher melting point compared to gelatin, I'm wondering if putting these in the oven at a low enough temperature might knock a few days off the drying time. I'm going to try it and post my findings once the stuff gets here.
.. and what are the results? Did it work? :)
Did it work?????? 1 year later lmao
@@lemonboi5854 i can confirm it does knock the time down
@@bloepblep4287 it does work
@@tainycassu1699 If you can recall a rough estimate, temperature and time?
I would love to see you do the raindrop cake again using the Japanese agar agar! I remember you had a lot of issues with the clarity, and that looks completely clear. 💜
Awesome video. CONGRATS TO 1 MILL SUBS!
The channel Cooking Tree made theirs using an elderflower and rhubarb drink. Not sure if it improved the taste but I definitely think you can make kohakutou with flavored drinks.
Love you Emma!! You always make my day with your optimism, beauty and comic relief! As I am battling several chronic diseases, I tend to get depressed. When I turn on your channel, it gives me such relief to hear you. irxaI mean this from the bottom of my heart you inspire me to keep going. Congratulations and my wish for you and your family the best of health, happiness and peace for many years to come❣️🇨🇦

@@cafezo87934 Agreed, if people are stupid enough to eat soap packets I say go for it. Chase them down with a shot of bleach just to be sure.
Congrats on surpassing 1M subscribers! What a quick jump. So happy for you!
Yes Emmy! They look like the candies from the Spirited Away movie!
I'm trying to think of which ones you mean, because the first ones that come to mind are the ones fed to the soot sprites, which is konpeito, a different candy.
Serial Snarker Alex Yeah that's the one I'm thinking of the little soot Sprite candies. They are different but they remind me of these.
Fair enough. And even if they're not the same candy, they're still pretty candies.
I kinda immediately thought of spirited away. Might be the name. The dragon dude's name is kohaku
William Henderson The ones from the movie are konpieto. Different ingredients and shape....plus konpieto takes way longer to make haha
Congratulations for your 1M! 🙌🏻💕
Emmy, do you know if you could use a food dehydrator to speed the "rock-making" along a bit? Love your content, thanks for producing it!
Ken Davis that might make it too dry on the inside
Dehydrators heat up usually and make gummies melt. Unless you mean air dehydrator
I have been been enjoying your shows for over a year and cant believe it took me this long to... SUBSCRIBED
This video rocked! ;D
P.S. This was a good pun - don't be jelly ;)

I used the thailand agar agar to make vietnamese jello, which is flavor in espresso coffee and food coloring. Also, the jello include coconut milk and cane sugar.. hoping you have a wonderful day Emmy!
"Isn't that wonderful?!"
Oh god I think you just melted my cold, hard heart
Your videos are such a fun way to explore the food of the world. I would never know of such things if not for your fans and you.
As someone who works with crystals for a living, this is an amazing idea!!!! I’m def going to make these and completely blow everyone’s minds😂💗 Crystal people are gonna go insane over these beauties!
I love your honesty! this will be a fun one to try and give to my friends who love to collect crystals... thank you!!
The crunch makes me hungry
Fun video! Can’t wait to make some w my niece. As a microbiologist, I have this compulsion to share that we don’t grow virus’s on Petri dishes. Viruses are grown in cell culture as they are not alive and need a host cell to operate. Agar agar is used in solid playing mediums for BACTERIA. To the plain agar agar a whole host of carbon sources, and other additives are added for growth and identification based on chemical reactions.
The important question is: Does it work with booze ??? :D Imagine a jello-shot in Gestalt of this spectacular gems.
Yes, I imagined it, but wanted to try the OG recipe first. You wont' know until you try...
emmymadeinjapan I have already fresh mint, white rum and grated lime zest on my imaginary grocery shopping list, for a Mojito gem stone. Or this recently popular peppermint schnapps. Or just some mixed up cool aid flavours. So many options to try out !
can u make super sour ones?
Do you usually use the word Gestalt? Never seen it being used in english...
Me (No, not Ashildr, I had the name before Doctor Who, and I'm not changing it!) It's one of the German words Emmy uses regularly. So I just went with it ;)
Congratulations on 1 Million Subscribers!!
“I’m shiny!”
I loved that she added that at the end.
I read one recipe added citrus for flavor. I think you can add flavoring of any kind and it wouldn't mess it up as long as it was a powder or gel and not a liquid
Will you film a flavoured version if you experiment with them? Would love to try a fruit juice one as well
Congrats on 1M subscribers! I can't understand why there aren't more, but there will be. I'm sure of it. The jelly aspect of this made me think of one of my favourite treats that is hard to find in my area and that I cannot figure out how to replicate: Jaffa cakes! I think they could be really interesting to make--so many different layers, Anyway, thanks for sharing your lovely candies and your lovely personality with us. You totally rock :D Edit: lol your video just inspired my husband. He's dying to make these! Maybe now I can finally order some agar agar!
We have this in India too. These gems are called petha.
Hey Emmy, thank you so much for sharing this, it's a pleasure to watch over and over again. Have you experimented with it more? Put it into moulds, added flavoring etc? Would love to hear/read about your experiments and see what you can do.
What about trying to use those flavors that come in little vials that you use for hard candy.
Congratulations on 1 million subscribers!!!!! 😘😘😘😘😘
Emmy pls make xiao long bao!
King Zeke yes 😋
It's on my list -- thanks for the reminder. 😉
OMG EMMY I LOVE YOU I LIVE YOU OMG I LOVE YOU
Is that soup dumplings?
Oooooh yum
Wow! My country has those crunchy jelly thing served during eid mubarak alongside other cookies and snacks.
They're a traditional snack so we can't find them very often.
They're usually cut so they look like a fat crinkle-cut french fries.
The traditional flavor is rose but people make them in different flavors as well.
I loved how yours turned out! So pretty! 🌼

Thank you for introducing me to it
Loved the music in this one! Very fitting with futuristic looking stones. :) Excited to see you get creative with these, they're so pretty!
Where can I get the recipe? The recipe link has expired 😢
Indhl Things where do I get the recipe ?!
Hi Emmy! Love this video, it looked like so much fun to make. I actually got my Master's in Microbiology, and I was thinking about what you said about making this using a flavored drink. I'm not sure whether you would be able to get success with a carbonated drink like 7-Up, because of the bubbles. I think you might run into some problems with it. But you might be able to get a lot of flavor in if you used something like Crystal Light, or Kool-Aid, powder. Just add it in while you are dissolving the sugar and agar, and it shouldn't mess up the consistency of the agar as it sets. You won't need the whole pack if you use Kool-Aid, probably only like a third to a half of the packet, and since you are using so much sugar, you don't need the sweetened kind. You also don't have to worry about the additional salt concentrations in the soda messing with the concentration of the agar.
Part of why an agar doesn't set up firm enough is if there is too much liquid and not enough of the actual agar. If that happens, you can just remelt it, add a pinch more agar and try to set it again. It's not that easy when you're trying to get multiple pretty colors, since they would all blur together, but when you are working with something like the raindrop cake, you can easily just toss the pieces in a glass bowl, nuke it in the microwave until it melts, add more agar, heat to dissolve that, stir and re-pour.
Just looking at how the two agar set, the Japanese one appears to be a more purified one, which is probably why it is a bit more finicky to set. But if you add something to it, like a powdered flavor, and a little bit more agar, that should take care of that problem.
So what you're saying is.. I can grow my own colony of bacteria goodness with agar agar..
Kelsie Snyder if you put them in a closed environment like a petri dish or a tube then yes
Caridad Chang why am I excited to grow a bacteria family
Check out the cool article "Here’s What Happens When You Culture the Bacteria on an Eight-Year-Old’s Hand" for an interesting experiment and a BEAUTIFUL bacteria/yeast/fungus family portrait. :D
mungbean345 neat!! Kinda gross but super neat.. Can I do this to my cats foot.
Just agar agar will not be enough, depending on what kind of bacteria you want to see grow on your plate, you will have to add certain nutrients. Agar is simply used as a base for culture media because most bacteria can't metabolise it, which makes observation of colony morphology and isolation of single colonies much easier. If you use e.g. gelatin, many bacteria will metabolise that and liquify your plate. I am sure you can look up some recipes for homemade media. Just be aware that there are potentially pathogens in samples you take e.g. from your skin :). And since you won't be working under sterile conditions, prepare for some nice molds to make an appearance on your agar plate :D. Sorry for all the rambling, biology nerd out😅
You make the coolest things! These are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
"No, they're minerals, Jesus Marie!" :D
Those colours are vibrant and gorgeous!!!
Emmy have you ever tried the confetti candy thingy?
No, tell me more, please.
I went to a wedding this week and there were a lot of these! Not the japanese konpeito. The chocolate covered ones. They're chocolate covered almonds, with a thin crust on the outside (like M&Ms), really colorful and sweet. There were some with dark chocolate instead of almond as well, very similar to chocolate rocks.
UnsterblichFujiko Jordan almonds.
Omg I was waiting for you to do this forever. Ssssooooo happy right now.

Made these. They worked great. I used flavorings in mine. Grape and bubblegum. I didn’t use enough flavoring in my first batch but my second turned out great.
ASMR is quaking 5:23 😂👏
I love your hair style!!❤
Thanks for the video!
They remind me of a british candy. Jelly Babies.
I thought of this video when we were at the grocery store yesterday and saw an assortment of cotton candy sugars!! So many colors and flavors! --- Emmy, did you ever try making these again? If you do, you should give those sugars a try.
They look like the power crystals from the crystal matrix tables inside the pylons on the original Land of the Lost tv show from the 70's! Don't let the blue crystals touch the yellow crystals or they will explode !
Congratulations Emmy on hitting 1 million subs !!!!!
*Pleeeeeaase do an ASMR video of you chewing on these bad boys because damn that was satisfying* 😩
What a beautiful gemstone agar. I remember eating these during eidul fitri celebration in Kelantan, Malaysia during my childhood..It is soo sweet and random mix in colours.. not look like gemstones at all. This is genius.

Hello emmymade,
Great idea and i love this! These edible rocks look great and also look fun to make. I dont see the recipe in the discription for the amounts for each ingredient. I only see the other two recipes in the discription, Raindrop cake and Unicorn Jelly.
