NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Being from United States, all I ever heard growing up was how great Eddie Van Halen was. He was great, but his Ego was bigger than his guitar playing. Randy Rhoads was always my favorite. But since I discovered NightWish, I hadn’t realized how many Gifted guitarists there are in the world. Not only is Empuu one of the best guitarists in the world, he has almost 0 ego. He doesn’t show off, he just provides what the song needs and nothing more. My NEW FAVORITE guitarist ❤

(I love Eddie, and Steve Vai, his mentor Joe Satriani, Cris Impellitteri, what have you, but style and composure is something you can't teach over technique. This will really bake your noodle: NONE of the songs performed at Wacken 2013 were written for Floor, or with Floor in mind. They were all written for Floor's predecessors.

It was the last show that night. Nobody would have been able to top this one. I love Nightwish live, have seen them 22 times and every concert is an experience. However, the audience in Wacken is also an absolute experience.
I love how Floor isn’t compared to an instrument. Because in my book she is like nothing or nobody else. She is alone at the top, the apex predator of metal.

Great reaction and yes, one of Nightwish's heavier songs. The heaviest? Master Passion Greed form the Dark Passion Play album. Never been played live and no official music video. Off the Dark Passion Play album, their first after they parted ways with their first singer Tarja Turunen. Part of the break up trilogy of Poet and the Pendelum (Tuomas's masterpiece where he mines his depression from the fans hatred of him for firing Tarja, my favorite Nightwish song), Bye, Bye Beautiful (farewell to Tarja), and Master Passion Greed. The song is the bands big FO to Tarja's husband and manager who the band blamed for destroying the relationship between her and them. Drummer here is their first, Jukka, who unfortunately had to step down from touring due to chronic insomnia but still an active and improtant part of the band's management team. Empuu can definitely shred when needed. Checkout his virtuosic playing in their tribute to Pink Floyd while performing High Hopes at the End of an Era concert.
Keep in mind at this point Floor had been the temporary singer less than a year. It was around this point she was made the permanent singer. She was also in a harder metal group called ReVamp a great example is grasspop version of disdain.
Floor did tell,that,she and Troy were (secretly) pemanent members after the first festival show in Europe 2013,she didn't tell wich festival. Maby something to find out for the real "Sherlock holmes" fans.😉 The band made it publick just before the premiere of the "Imaginaerum" film.
Nightwish is simply the best liveband ever, at least in my book. The stage presence of the whole band is amazing and they play so insanely tight and the mixing is superb. And Floor is truly a superstar. Imagine that she took over as lead singer mid tour only 10 months before doing this. And on top of that she had her career on hold due to a burnout and had almost lost her confidence as a vocalist. Then Tuomas calls her when she’s at her sisters wedding and asks her if she can learn the whole setlist and go on stage with them in Seattle 48 hours later. All of a sudden she’s just back and better than ever. This is nothing short of a miracle and her story has inspired me in my battle with my own burnout.

Wow again Alpenglow (Mexico City) A happy song Sahara (Live in Tampa) Shuch a great groove All but Dark chest has their new drummer Kai Hahto. Jukka had to step down due to health issues. Kai is his friend and was also his drum tech for a while. We call him the human metronome.

It's vah-ken not wacken. It's in Northern Germany. The drummer is Jukka (you-ka) this is pretty much one of the last concerts he did. He retired in early 2015 due to health issues. His friend Kai Hahto took over. Jukka works behind the scenes now. Marco left I. Jan. 2021.
Great reaction! Check out Song of Myself, also from Wacken. I don't think I'd say it is as heavy as Yours is an Empty Hope, but it is amazing. Also, when you come back around to Lovebites, there is so much that I don't even know where to start. Thunder Vengeance from Zepp, Set the World on Fire, Frozen Serenade, Swan Song (with the Chopin intro), Break the Wall. So many tracks just from these two bands alone, and I'm here for it lol.
I have said this multiple times but, this song is Like a Coffee with Red Bull...On Steroids 🤘❤🔥🤘. The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classical trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast. Also Marko (Bass player) shines like a Viking god !!!! NWSU 🤘😎🤘.

They were the showstopper from Wacken Festical. In the Netherlands we also have a big Metal festival, and Metallica played before nightwish, since they again were the showstopper. Yes I was here In Wacken. In Europe everything is close , Wacken is a 3 hour drive for me from Holland. Paris 5 hours. I saw Nightwish several times, last time was 6 weeks ago with my teen daughter , who is also crazy about them. The sound in Amsterdam was just as good as in Wacken, they REALLY are THAT good Life, insanely good.I love them live more than in studio....Metallica hear rather studioversions LOL There are a lot more heavy songs like this sir. What I love is that they have parts in their music pieces, one part can be so emotional with Floor singing full opera while the second part is heavier than trash-proggressive metal, Like "the greatest show on eart" about the Big Bang, the evolution of Earth and the rol men plays on earth. Master piece.
This song is actually from way back when Tarja was the lead singer. This is actually the only time I’ve seen this performed live, and Floor nails it. I may have missed and perhaps someone else knows, but they haven’t had this one on the set list since that tour. It’s a great one, though.
As far as I know it was Floor who wanted this one on the Wacken playlist and now they can't really do it anymore. I mean Troy has many talents but his voice lacks the power for this one.
The whole concert was amazing. You have to watch Song of Myself from the same concert. This, that and Ghost Love Score are my 3 favorites from that. Still can't believe that was her first live performance
She had been touring with Nightwish for about 10 months before this show. Mostly in North American and South America. They had done a few small shows in Europe before this but Wacken was her first big festival with the band.
If you really want to see heavy Floor react to her previous band Revamp doing Disdain at Graspop live in 2010. Her vocals cover the whole spectrum and the music is HEAVY.

There is no other band on this planet that can outperform Nightwish live, no one! They are the master class of how to perform! I've been a huge fan of theirs well over 20 years now and there is nothing else like them on this planet! Floor is in another league all her own and the drummer is off the chains awesome, heck, they all are on another level! They literally have it all.

Great song from "Once" album, one of my favorites along with almost every song from that album. Songs like I Wish I Had An Angel, Dark Chest Of Wonders Nemo, Planet Hell, and Ghost Love Score are a blast with Tarja vocals, so i highly suggest you to listen those versions.🤘🔥
Nightwish are most often the top name of the day or festival - but this year, they were actually followed by Metallica, on one of the festivals (James Hetfield was actually on the Nightwish stage to watch - and he was impressed, to put it mildly). On the Wacken 2013, they were headlining and closing the Festival, and they played right after Alice Cooper, if I remember correctly.
Let me help you... The Wacken Open Air Festival is in Germany. It's pronounced VAW-Kehn. Guitarist Emppu Vourinen is both well respected and underrated! His genius lies in his restraint. Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, *bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony. He has a high register that blends perfectly with Floor's voice. While he's left the band (early 2021), he's still a huge star with fantastic solo projects!

I was at that gig. They did headline and I am trying to remember who came after (at Wacken the headliners play peak times but music goes on to 3am). Either way they absolutely stole the show as you can imagine. I think (and I was drunk and it's 11 years ago) so I might be wrong, Motorhead where before or after them as the other headliner that night. With Doro and Alice cooper the other night and Rammstein as main headliner on the Thursday. But I could be wrong. 😂

All nightwish's lineups have been and are epic musicians but my heart beats for the guitarist Emppu, his consistency over the years is amazing!

And on top of that she had her career on hold due to a burnout and had almost lost her confidence as a vocalist. Then Tuomas calls her when she’s at her sisters wedding and asks her if she can learn the whole setlist and go on stage with them in Seattle 48 hours later. All of a sudden she’s just back and better than ever. This is nothing short of a miracle and her story has inspired me in my battle with my own burnout.

All but Dark chest has their new drummer Kai Hahto. Jukka had to step down due to health issues. Kai is his friend and was also his drum tech for a while. We call him the human metronome.

It's vah-ken not wacken. It's in Northern Germany. The drummer is Jukka (you-ka) this is pretty much one of the last concerts he did. He retired in early 2015 due to health issues. His friend Kai Hahto took over. Jukka works behind the scenes now. Marco left I. Jan. 2021.
Great reaction! Check out Song of Myself, also from Wacken. I don't think I'd say it is as heavy as Yours is an Empty Hope, but it is amazing. Also, when you come back around to Lovebites, there is so much that I don't even know where to start. Thunder Vengeance from Zepp, Set the World on Fire, Frozen Serenade, Swan Song (with the Chopin intro), Break the Wall. So many tracks just from these two bands alone, and I'm here for it lol.

The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classical trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast.

They were the showstopper from Wacken Festical. In the Netherlands we also have a big Metal festival, and Metallica played before nightwish, since they again were the showstopper. Yes I was here In Wacken. In Europe everything is close , Wacken is a 3 hour drive for me from Holland. Paris 5 hours. I saw Nightwish several times, last time was 6 weeks ago with my teen daughter , who is also crazy about them. The sound in Amsterdam was just as good as in Wacken, they REALLY are THAT good Life, insanely good.I love them live more than in studio....Metallica hear rather studioversions LOL
There are a lot more heavy songs like this sir. What I love is that they have parts in their music pieces, one part can be so emotional with Floor singing full opera while the second part is heavier than trash-proggressive metal, Like "the greatest show on eart" about the Big Bang, the evolution of Earth and the rol men plays on earth. Master piece.

This song is actually from way back when Tarja was the lead singer. This is actually the only time I’ve seen this performed live, and Floor nails it. I may have missed and perhaps someone else knows, but they haven’t had this one on the set list since that tour. It’s a great one, though.
As far as I know it was Floor who wanted this one on the Wacken playlist and now they can't really do it anymore. I mean Troy has many talents but his voice lacks the power for this one.
The whole concert was amazing. You have to watch Song of Myself from the same concert. This, that and Ghost Love Score are my 3 favorites from that.

She had been touring with Nightwish for about 10 months before this show. Mostly in North American and South America. They had done a few small shows in Europe before this but Wacken was her first big festival with the band.

If you really want to see heavy Floor react to her previous band Revamp doing Disdain at Graspop live in 2010. Her vocals cover the whole spectrum and the music is HEAVY.

hey John, this Wacken 2013 concert is considered to be a seminal & pivotal standard setting event for NW & Floor, every song is GOLD & the best version of each song, Floor adds to each what Tuomas had always intended,I have been to about 100 Live shows in my life many of them the greats but this Wacken concert even from a YT video is the best I have ever seen, once you have seen it in it's entirety and some of the other venues (with Floor) you will come to the conclusion as millions have that this is the best band in the world !,cheers

There is no other band on this planet that can outperform Nightwish live, no one! They are the master class of how to perform! I've been a huge fan of theirs well over 20 years now and there is nothing else like them on this planet! Floor is in another league all her own and the drummer is off the chains awesome, heck, they all are on another level! They literally have it all.

Thank you for a great reaction! Nightwish's most recent album Human:Nature also has some heavier songs - Kai Hahto even had to expand his drumkit for Tribal. Last year NW gave great festival performances of both songs at Hellfest and Deichbrand, and I also like this recent YT upload from Masters of Rock ruclips.net/video/BpIcbPuxAfI/видео.html. The new bass player Jukka Koskinen really shines here, as does Kai. And check out Emppu at the end (9.22).
I've been around for a number of years now, but still rocking. Still an Emerson, Lake & Palmer junkie as I've always thought of those 3 as the best at their craft. Once I discovered Nightwish, I put them on the same pedestal as ELP. If you want heavy, check out Slaying the Dreamer live.

That show was after Alice Cooper as part of the Wacken festival.
Nightwish are most often the top name of the day or festival - but this year, they were actually followed by Metallica, on one of the festivals (James Hetfield was actually on the Nightwish stage to watch - and he was impressed, to put it mildly).
On the Wacken 2013, they were headlining and closing the Festival, and they played right after Alice Cooper, if I remember correctly.

Guitarist Emppu Vourinen is both well respected and underrated! His genius lies in his restraint.
Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, *bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony. He has a high register that blends perfectly with Floor's voice. While he's left the band (early 2021), he's still a huge star with fantastic solo projects!
This era of Nightwish was magical to me, no offense to the other 2 lead singers before Floor

I was at that gig. They did headline and I am trying to remember who came after (at Wacken the headliners play peak times but music goes on to 3am).
Either way they absolutely stole the show as you can imagine. I think (and I was drunk and it's 11 years ago) so I might be wrong, Motorhead where before or after them as the other headliner that night. With Doro and Alice cooper the other night and Rammstein as main headliner on the Thursday. But I could be wrong. 😂
