In reference to the dial glass on the citizen - Mineral crystals are tempered with chemical and heat treatments to make them harder and stronger. They’re a lot more scratch-resistant than acrylic dial protectors, and are more likely to chip rather than shatter, unlike sapphire crystals. This is why on a Dive watch manufacturers quite often choose mineral glass over sapphire. If you glance a rock or metal structure underwater you'll be more appreciative of a chip rather than a shatter moment. Sorry I'm a diver hence the lengthy and possibly unneeded over explanation. If you are someone that wants to use this watch for its implied description - stick to the mineral glass.
I'm a bit late here I guess but here it goes. I have the Promaster BNO150 ( black dial ) version. It came on that uncomfortable rubber strap...wore it for a month and then bought a stainless steel bracelet had it fitted and installed and never looked back. Island Watch makes two bracelet styles for the BNO150 and BNO151. A jube an oyster. I've had this watch for 11 months and wear it each day, by that I mean 7 days a week. I love it..a lot.
I have the citizen for a cpl years and I’m still in love with it I can’t say enough about it! The seiko looks cool too but the citizen is so much more less expensive so I’ll stick with it for now!
Owned both , including both coloured Citizens. Sold the Seiko because of misalignment. I’ve owned most of the popular Seiko Divers, and Tunas over the last 20y. I wear my Citizen Black more than any dive watch I’ve ever had. Sits nicely, and not too tall under a jacket. I think the beveled bezel helps. Super accurate. I thought the Seiko looked more expensive, but the Citizen definitely sees more use than all others. I have it on a black Zulu. I actually preferred the Citizen blue better, but it’s just a colour. Good review. *Edit…….Several months later, and I’ve rebought the SNE498. Hahaha. Love the old-school Tuna look. This Seiko has perfect alignment. Still think very highly of the BN0150, though.
I absolutely love the Citizen. My collection is quite large, so it doesn't get nearly as much wrist time as it deserves. When I do wear it, I'm always impressed with the original style, toughness, and innovation when I look down at it. The Seiko does have a classic '80s Tuna look wich is hard to ignore for watch buffs. Glad you're enjoying your dive watches!! Happy New Year 🎉🎊
Got the Citizen BN0151, it's the perfect grab and go watch for me... robust, reliable, sizeable on any wrist and a torch at night. Anyway you can't go wrong with any of these two beauties. Nice job on the video man !!!
I have a Citizen 0151 (and the black 0150). For around $200, I think these are about the best watches out there. The Seiko solar watches are superb. I've got a solar diver chronograph. I don't care for this model tho, I prefer the Tuna in all steel steel. These new affordable Tunas have a plastic "can".
I'm trying to decide between the 0150 (black) and 0151 (blue).. thoughts? Edit: after spending time with both for a few weeks I decided to keep the blue dial. What helped my decision was the black dial had an alignment issue on the bezel, and I didn't like how the "black" dial was more of a dark grey, which gave it a faded look. The cool thing about the blue dial is it can look black in low light settings so it kinda feels like you're getting a 2-in-1 lol
The Seiko is more attractive but the Citizen is a rugged piece. I've had this 168 movement in another Citizen for eight years. It has been knocked about at sea yet consistently keeps time at +.3 seconds a day.
Nice job, as always. I bought the Citizen last month (Sept. 2021) from Amazon for $220ish. Today I just happened to see Amazon’s selling it now for only $180. Dang. Oh well, I still love this watch.
Sold my Tuna (I remember we purchased it right on launch and both did a review at a similar time). I have re-bought it and am waiting for it to arrive. Severe sellers remorse with this one. It's an incredible watch. Love the Citizen too.
Purchased the ecozilla 2 days ago, but this citizen I really do like and would be more of a practical daily watch, thanks for the review, definitely will look at buying it 👍
Just come back to video as I recently purchased a citizen 'fugu' 44mm, which has re-ignited my love for this brand, absolutely stunning, so I thought I'd definitely buy this bn0151 for my lad who's getting into watches 😊
What is it about Seiko divers that makes me want to own multiple? This doesn't happen with other brands or micros. I must be addicted to misaligned chapter rings lol
Picked up a blue for 145 on Amazon on black friday this year (2022). Even though I would have preferred the black, I saw that price drop on the blue and jumped on it.
Citizen is the better watch in my opinion. Better colors, better dial (applied indices vs painted lume indices), better size, better looking (to me), and it's 1/2 the price of the Seiko. Also, from the Seiko's I've owned and still own compared to the Citizen's I own, the Seiko's have had issues with bezel and dial alignment, quartz/solar ones don't always hit the indices with the second hand, and overall Citizen has better quality control. When you are paying $400-$1000 for a watch you don't want to have to fix a misaligned bezel, chapter ring, or dial. Seiko is banking on their brand name and not on their quality. For someone getting their first dive watch that is actually ISO 6425 certified I always recommend the Citizen BN0150/BN0151. Put the Citizen on a 20mm stainless bracelet and it really looks great.
Last year I picked up the Citizen Flieger Eco-Drive. I totally agree with you on about solar being the route to go. I have been considering a SNE so I hope you do a comparison of your Tunas. 👍
Thanks Greg for tuning in!! I really love my Solar watches in the collection. There are so many fun watches in the SNE lineup. I'll be posting a side by side of my Tuna collection in the near future!! Cheers buddy, and keep cranking out the great ancient history vids 😎👍🤙
@@gregalonzo747 The Sea Nymph is a great watch. My wife owns the blue one. They're sold out completely on the website, but get on the mailing list for every color. They'll notify you when they are coming back in stock. Gotta jump when the email comes in, because they sell quickly. With the code OFD at checkout, the Sea Nymph is around $162, which is a great deal.
I am a long time diver since my days in the military. Now I own a dive school and I think one of the Seiko Solar watches would be fun to wear around the pool. I hope you do that comparison video.
Could you post a link to the pics of the Citizen with the caseback off please? I've had a hard time finding pics of that watch's movement while still inside the watch. Thanks.
I have the Citizen BN151, after I lost the black BN150. I like the orange outline on the minute hand. It looks much better with an orange strap. Not a fan of the stock one. The Seiko tuna has a more attractive bezel insert font, which is the thing I like less in Citizen. I put a screen protector on the BN151, as it comes with mineral crystal. I bought an Addiesdive (like Steeldive) Seiko tuna homage with a black sterile dial. It looks great and has sapphire crystal (domed, I wish it was flat). The issue with the Seiko solar tuna is that the shroud is some kind of plastic, I wish it was steel. Not a fan of gold accents. Also, Seiko at that price could offer sapphire crystal, and use their own quartz movement VH31, which has a sweeping second hand (4 ticks per second), which is used on some Chinese watches for around $100. It would make it more appealing. Probably I will wait on some deal for the Seiko solar SNE589. Years ago I sold the Citizen BN000 solar which is slightly smaller, and probably the best looking toolish Citizen solar.
had two citizen bn150 before, sold them. now I bought another one and I hope this will not be sold... I like them but because they are quartz, they are the first to be sold from my collection.
Ha funny, I have both! They are both great watches but the bn0151 strap on mine was very stiff until I soaked it and the sne498 has 22mm lugs which I prefer 20mm but other than that no issues.
No one has mentioned the glaringly obvious on these 2 watches. The Seiko has no crown guards, whereas the Citizen has them. You need crown guards for an outdoor/dive watch. The Seiko looks are rubbish compared to the Citizen as well.
As is standard on all Seiko Prospex Tuna line, the Stainless Steel, or in this case polymer case shroud extends around the crown protecting it actually more that crown guards. The shroud protects it from downward impacts as well, which standard crown guards do not. Cheers 😎 👍
