    I commented on an earlier video espousing more or less the same sentiment and interpretation.
    This story will always be my favourite in The Torah, because of it's 'esoteric nature'.
    This in my estimation was 'carefully crafted' to teach us that there's often a 'deeper, more 'profound' Truth that lies below the 'superficial'.
    Blessings to Rabbi Friedman! He is a gift...
    I'll never tire of listening to him.

He creates the story saying the souls of Adam and Eve were there in the heavens and sent to the earth with a mission to make the world perfect. So much misguiding and it is far away from the Bible and Torah. When God created the earth, it was perfect for dwelling. But it became curse when Adam and Eve sinned. But Rabbi is saying that there was no sin. He is too much away from the truth.

    I am in tears. Many many years ago, I heard a similar version of this story ... the fact that Eve was tempted by "knowledge" was an epiphany. It opened my eyes to the terrible warping of women's roles by so many Church teachings. Women were debased ... temptresses and harlots. Mary Magdalene only rehabilitated by the Catholic Church in the 1950's. I left the Church and studied Hinduism and Buddhism in my twenty years in India. Then I evolved into a belief in my sharing "consciousness" with a Universal Creator or God. Mysticism ... but this beautiful interpretation of the Tree of Knowledge warms my heart and lets me revisit the faith of my dear Mother.

    Thank you Rabbi for this video. I have always been so curious about the Adam and Eve and Tree of knowledge story as there were so may details that didn't make sense to me in the traditional way it's taught. For example, why would G-d "punish" Adam and Eve, or restrict them from knowledge or the pursuit of it. I also saw the longer videos that explains things a little more in depth. It really was enlightening. Thank you again!!
    Also, I think its nice that you decided to make these shorter videos because some people don't have the time or attention span to sit through a longer one. I see the trade of however, there are some that don't understand it. But over all I think it's great. I have shared a few of them.

    • @Chris_Sheridan
      @Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад

      Adam + Eve were punished for their disobedience - they did not gain any beneficial knowledge. Eve allowed her own desire to take something that did not belong to her - Adam followed by listening to his wife instead of trusting in God - they both sinned.
      God had given them free will - failure to keep God's law results in death. Adam was responsible for introducing sin and death to humankind - Romans 5:12
      It was God's purpose that humans live forever on a paradise earth, however, it comes with the recognition of God's sovereignty - His right to rule and determine what is right and what is wrong. The Creator has every right to demand obedience from his creation - Adam + Eve were created perfect - they had full capability of understanding God's requirements, yet they lacked appreciation and wanted more. God had given them a perfect start - they were not starving and God did not tempt them - he allowed them a simple test of obedience. Sin brings death - the first human couple were punished with death - they deteriorated and died over hundreds of years - they did not die instantly - they did not go to heaven - they returned to the dust of the ground from which they had been taken.
      However, those who were born from Adam + Eve have the hope of the ransom - something that this 'pastor' has failed to acknowledge.

      @@Chris_Sheridan The Bible in Amos 3 says the G-d creates the wicked to do evil. In Exodus, the Bible says the G-d hardened Pharaoh's heart to do worse evil and to show his power in it. The Bible says it is God who shakes the land and pours the water of the seas over the land. Tsunamis are from the G-d. The Bible says the G-d creates all things in the cosmos, including sin. You being an obvious Christian, know full well to fear God who can put your body and soul into death or (hell) or as your Bible says hades the the Greek god of the underworld.

      They already successfuly ruled the Eden tho - they just wanted to be God , it was not enough for them. Now they are easy to understand as we humans are born with the same characters as those two, Gods motif why to allow the evil to happen is the harder one - why create us if You know well disobey and do evil?

    • @Chris_Sheridan
      @Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад

      Humans were not created to rule themselves - read the bible. God allowed Adam + Eve the choice whether to accept his rulership or not. God had given them everything - a paradise garden and the prospect of living forever.
      To continue living, they had to show appreciation for what God had given them - it was only right that God sets the standard for pure worship and determines what is right from what is wrong. Disobedience brings lawlessness, hence, the world today is experiencing the consequences of what it means to reject God's laws.

      @@mimisvet8671 Wrong! Eve was deceived - she said so. She acknowledged that the 'serpent' had deceived her - Satan had claimed that she would 'be like God', knowing good and evil and that she would not die. She used her own free will and false reasoning to believe the lie - she began to desire the forbidden fruit, then ate from it which was a deliberate transgression of God's law.
      When Adam joined her, they both lost their spirituality - as perfect humans there was no way back - they had sinned without the possibility of forgiveness or redemption, hence, they were spiritually dead and also physically began to deteriorate and eventually die. Adam lived for 930 years and then he died - he returned to the dust of the ground from which he had been created. - Genesis 3.

      Sorry about my spelling but I like to prevent people from using google translate to talk with me. Those are the names of the books he’s referencing( edit: spelled rather sideways, as I mentioned). If you come at my people a little more respectfully I will be happy to name them in English for you. Otherwise know that there are answers to the question you asked, but they will remain unknown to this group.

    God didn't create Adam and Eve to go and "fix" the lowest world. Hellooo, everything that God created He said it is good. God created man out of earth because God sculpted His own image. Which is why we cannot have idols or graven images, because we are already the image. The adversary knew he cannot overcome God, so he defiled Gods image - man.

    I was raised that it was a metaphor.
    With many lessons
    Do what your parents ask they don't ask without reason
    Take responsibility for your actions
    Knowledge is a double edge sword
    Actions have consequences
    I love the way you tell this story, it makes way more sense than the written story

    • @simplicit1

      We are taught that the verse never leaves its simple literal meaning.
      Therefore, the written story definitely did happen.
      However, there are also many more details and deeper meanings to this story.
