I read somewhere Paul went in the studio a few times to try and nail the vocals on this song and it's self evident he succeeded by the time the album was released............
Slight correction on your description: The final album version has no harmony vocals by Lennon (or by anyone, for that matter). There are subtle backing vocals "ooohs" and "aaaahs" by all three George, Paul and John throughout (the backing vocals here are slightly different: less intricate than on the finished version). However, the only time a harmony vocal 'proper' is attempted by Lennon is in fact here, in this version -on the third verse. Omitted, of course, on the final version.
I think Paul was checking out how to sing this song, roughly or slowly kind of night bar... i dont know... sometimes I enjoy sesion versions most, can see their geniality without today´s studio tricks used by "artists" that dont really sings... Paul was awesome
Magnificent vocal range this man has... Those notes!!!

I prefer the album version, as it is one of my all time favorites. But this is great too!

Take 26 is even better but has been censored by unknown alien forces.
When i found out why they broke up, i started to hate these guys, but i still love their music.

Paul plays with his voice.
I wonder how bad singing this song screwed his voice up when he got to the screaming parts.
Is Paul doing falsetto around 2:30 it sounds a lot higher, I thought it was a female vocalist for a moment.
almost like michael jackson!
