  • My mother’s favorite place to eat sukiyaki in Hawaii, is located inside the Shirokiya Village Walk at Ala Moana Center. This place is huge with many stalls selling all sorts of delicious dishes, so if you’re a fan of Japanese food, make sure to visit.

Under US law no raw eggs can be served unless they are cooked table side right then and there. It’s a safeguard against salmonella. It’s because the eggs we get are factory crap and it’s pretty much useless unless cooked or in baked goods. The risk of food poisoning is pretty high.

When I miss Japan, it is often a food memory that triggers the feeling. I love and miss Japanese cuisine. Sharing a meal makes people like each other or as the feel closer with strong bond. Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking.

I went here to Shirokiya a few weeks before this video was published, right before New Years. It had some of the best gyoza in the world, and some really cool gachapon.

I thought this was in Japan until I saw it was US beef & briefly wondered why Japan would import American beef. Now I see it's Hawaii. The food does look quite delicious!

I lived on Oahu years ago in the late 1990's and I went to Ala Moana many times but there wasn't a place like this there then. I plan to visit family there soon and now I can't wait to go to the Shirokiya Village Walk! Thank you for making this video and all your other ones in Japan.

You can tell you are in Hawaii, they have Spam. My husband loved Teriyaki Spam. He added it to his morning eggs. I like it on occasion. We have stand alone Japanese restaurants in San Jose, but not a nice grouping like that. We have the population concentration so hopefully someone will do it.

The places and choices to eat and in your background you can hear hawiian music. The ambience seemed relaxing. Your 's and your mom's lunch looked similar. My father and mother in law were petite people but they could eat way more than me. My husband always bought a bento box for his father when we would go to the japanese store shopping and my father in law would eat the bento box right away and then ask when will dinner be ready. He always stuck to mealtimes no matter what he had in between. I miss them and seeing your mom just reminds me of them. Thank you for the trip down memory lane and the food stalls in Honolulu. Have a great day!

What a great walk! The sukiyaki looked so delicious, and I’m so ureshi, that you’re beautiful okasama had such a great appetite! At the end of your meal, and I saw that yummy broth, all I could think of, was how delicious it would be, to pour a bowl of fresh gohan, right into the middle of all of that deliciousness!! Thank you for sharing, brother! 😋♥️😋

They can't serve you raw eggs in the United States it's against health codes . The only way they can in my state is if they come to the table side and cook them immediately & serve you. So it's BYOE, "bring your own egg". :)

I feel like the video would be much better if instead of using the audio from the video, you record 15 minutes or so of ambiance audio in the place you're at, and use it in the background. That way the audio will not sound choppy. But having genuine audio is important too, I guess it would just be finding a mix. The one thing that bothered me was the audio cuts. I really liked the video though

Unfortunately ongoing legal issues (2020-2022) between Shirokiya and Ala Moana Center seem likely to keep the Japan Village Walk from ever reopening. A shame. I had a hot pot or sukiyaki lunch there with a friend a couple years ago and it was great.
