  • The Aiki Dojo 2 Minute Technique - The Basics of Katatori Menuchi
    Ken Watanabe Sensei, Aikido 6th Dan, Iaido 5th Dan outlines the basics of katatori menuchi (肩取り面打ち) or “shoulder grab and face strike.” Katatori menuchi is an advanced level attack because one has to be able to negotiate two different attacks at once.

    Is there a way to avoid clashing opponent at the first move?

      Thank you for the comments. As a beginner, I don't think so because if the person is close enough to grab then you have let them invade your space so to speak and so the class might be inevitable and that is why the atemi is necessary. At a higher level you would be moving in well before they established the grab and thus there would be little to no clash. Hope that helps.
