The pentatonic scale is a kind of shortcut to the regular scale. By omitting the half steps in a scale you get the correspondent pentatonic scale. The E minor scale is: E-F#-G-A-B-C-D. By cutting out F# and C you get E-G-A-B-D which is the E minor pentatonic scale.
Usually the pentatonic scales are used for repetitive riffs and fills. Due to the lack of "tension tones" the pentatonic scale is also easy to use in improvising.
In this exercise I spread out the notes of the E minor pentatonic scale over the whole fretboard.

The backing track is so good that once I get going I forget that it's an exercise and it becomes cool grooves to play!

Thank G 4 the speed regulate ---
Grüß dich, Tom! I play this exercise daily as a warm-up. However, I still have problems with my right-hand fingers at Pattern C. It's a pity your right hand wasn't filmed. Which fingers do you use on which string when playing the G-E-G-A-G phrase? Thank you. LG
Awesome!!
Thank you Ronald!
Der Hammer, Tom !!! Juli bin ich in der Nähe..................Frreiburg!!! Gruesse aus São Paulo, Brasilien ^_^
Danke! Vielleicht sieht man sich mal!
good wonderfull
Awesome bass line Tom! only thing is you need to shorten the stattaco notes and not let them ring out....
Hello Andre, there are no staccato notes in the exercise. "Staccato" dots are placed underneath the notes, the dots you see in Part A of the exercise are placed next to the note and have a totally different meaning. A dot next to a note signifies that you lenghthen the note by half of it's value. That's in fact the opposite to the "staccato" sign. So remember "staccato" dots are placed underneath the note and shorten it's value while dots next to a note lenghthen it's value.
@@basscination I learnt something new today, thanks Tom and look forward to checking out lots more of your vids!
Great workout for the Em pentatonic scale.
I have one very similar, but your's is better because mine is too busy in comparison to yours.
Anybody wanting to learn the bass should subscribe to your channel.
I've seen many of your videos, but I'm not the type to comment much, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate what you do.
So keep up the great work, and keep grooving my friend.
