Best ballasting video I've seen. I'll definitely be trying it your way.

Thanks for a really useful tutorial. I've done a bit of ballasting in my time but never thought to bash the rail head with the back of the teaspoon.

Great stuff, very easy to do, in really no time at all. I was doing it the wrong way.

Hi like the idea of tapping the rails that works well,I use a cap from an aerosol and spread it very sparingly so I think your idea will make it even quicker cheers Kevin

Hi, absolutely brilliant, best method I've seen, will this method work on N gauge track that is glued down or will the tamping break the glue bond.Would really like to do my ballasting using this method, Dave

Tigercatflyboy This method will work with any scale and is the easiest I have seen. As for the glue bond, tamping it shouldn't affect that.....unless you're tamping with a sledge hammer.

How about if I have Bachmann easy track and EZ command DCC crossovers and turnouts. What would the method be when the ez track has plastic base?

I don’t know about model railways, just getting into it because my son wanted one so building for him!
Quick question, “How do you do the ballast around the rails/track which have the main power input and the power “link clips”??

Mark Pilgrim In theory, they should be fine as long as the electrical connection is sound, which ballasting shouldn't affect. However, I would consider soldering wire to the track directly, since it looks cleaner and is more permanent.
