i’ve lived in this city my entire life and so i thank you for showing just how beautiful it is. being here constantly made me forget just how wonderful living here is and i take it for granted. thank you for visiting and i’m glad you enjoyed yourself 💞
One of the few historic British towns that still retains much of its historic character, unlike Italy, France and Spain that have many. The Minster is of course one of the most important mediaeval buildings in the World. BTW, Wagamama is a cheap commercial chain hardly the place you would want to go to if you want to enjoy the best of North of England cuisine.
Lived here for 5 years while at university..loved walking the town wall and you always went shopping before 10am as after that it got too crowded....you forgot to say that the old Shambles was where butchers plied their trade...you missed Whipmawhopmagate ...the longest street name and also the shortest street... the name could mean either "Nothing at all" or "Neither one thing nor the other" . It is currently a length of raised pavement between St Crux church hall and a small road junction. also the pub by the river that regularly floods and you can see the high watermarks of each flood....
Good food and friendly service was enjoyed at St Williams restaurant. The Shambles certainly didn't look like it was in a shambles! So much of what one might want England to look like in a sentimental mood. Not to be forgotten!
When visiting York, I would recommend taking the free walking tour offered by the AVG Association of Volunteer Guides. You will be met by a qualified guide, who will provide a short interesting talk and close look at some of the ancient buildings, such that you can then, wonder around alone and be able to better understand what you are looking at. As I said it’s completely free and that includes no tips needed, or commercial recommendations given. The association of which I’m a member has been conducting these tours for 70years. No need to book. Just turn up at the ‘A’board sign in Exhibition Square in front of the Art Gallery. Open every day except Christmas Day. 10:15 and 1:15 each walking tour lasts around two and a half hours.
The Shambles looks like it might have been the model for Diagon Alley. I half expected the tourists reaching a brick wall and the guide tapping it for them to get through :)
Wondering how hard is to get to York from London ... if anybody knows the train and trip time to York, I’ll appreciate it. I’ll be on London next week 🤩
Nice video but it confuses Petergate with Stonegate which is without doubt the finest street in York (and is the one shown immediately before and after the Low Petergate sign).
Yes, you could do a week in York. No doubt, York is an excellent destination, good for at least 3 days in the town, with museums, Minster, wall-walk, pedestrian zones and relaxing. Then you could do 3 or 4 day-trips offered by local tour companies in small vans, to the Dales, to the Moors, Castle Howard and Whitby. That countryside is all quite beautiful. Just google York daytrips.
Yes, there is lots to see and do, stay in a B&B for a better price than a hotel. But if you do, bring your own bath soap, they don't supply it...and make sure you have an electrical plug made for the U.K. Or you will ruin your dryer and curling iron.
For crying out loud. You could very well film a Yorkshire Terrier (Little Yorkie Rippers), lol. My Yorkie wanted to see if his tives (relatives) were on walkabout. He calls his relatives his tives. It's just cool Yorkie Ripper talk he says.

It's only 2 hours. It's less expensive if you go off-peak, usually after 9am.
denniscallan Awesome! ... good info, I’ll remember to go after 9 am which is better for me to sleep a little more lol .. thank you 😊

Good spot as regards the statues. Look out of the cats which York is famous for too...
And lack of birds.
Hint, theres one on top of a shop called cactus trading post, on gillygate
Super
I really want to go to York next! Do you think there's enough to do for a full weeks stay? also, thanks for sharing.. i love your videos! xo

Easy. The coast is only an hour away by train. Also the Dales and National Parks.
Add Knaresborough/Harrogate - a delight.
Yep, easy. Done it and enjoyed it very much. Don't forget the train museum and Castle Howard !!

Yeah only thing that's bad is it's £4.40 a pint carling in 90% of the pubs compared to £2-2.50 a pint in bridlington lol why massive difference?
Probably because it can! More tourists compare to 'Brid'.
Love York but love my home town more Beverley.we have a north bar without.
I would respectfully point out that York Is a City not a town as you describe it.
