Planning to build your own FPV49 v3? This video shows how I built my latest one.
The one I'm building in this video is made for speed and stability.
If you are a beginner build a lighter version using only one 2650mAh 3 cell battery or something.
CG approx 25 til 26cm from the front of the plane (before cutting camera bay)
Build threads with drawings:
flitetest.com/a...
fpv.no/vbulleti... (see post 2)
You can buy all the electronic you need to build a plane like this from Hobbyking.com
If you do build one please let me know how it went :)
PS: how to launch it successfully: www.youtube.com....
2+6 is not 10! thanks Ulrik ;)

Trond, maiden my FPV3 last Friday and I got to say it's one of the best planes I've built! Super easy to control/stable and fast! Thanks mate.
17:50 flies beautifully stable.
I've never seen more stable aerial video.
ruclips.net/video/303ApSenxRI/видео.html ;)
I have never seen this before. Great video!
Excellent video of the construction steps. I can see several places to save a lot of weight using carbon fiber sheets instead of wood, and using the shrink Poly-Kote covering for regular balsa build RC planes instead of tape. Awesome footage...
Thank you so much for sharing your plans and video on building this spectacular plane!
I'm still a novice. Currently in the middle of building the FT Versa Wing. Glad to see you are on Flite Test!
FPV49 will probably be down the road... like next Summer =)
I wanted to build this plane since I saw this video, now I'm starting it thanks.
Thanks Mr. Kline, hopefully more people will try out your fantastic airfoil! The stability it gives is just awesome for FPV video :)
craftsmanship went out the window with this guy lol
Great Work . .. . thanks for guide . . . . May Nature bless you all
Thanks for the shout out! Glad that I have served as some inspiration. This is an awesome build!!!!!!!
All right, you got me addicted now. I'm in for building one.
Hi Fpv trond, i hope and wish that you will do a video on how your electronics are connected. Also, how to flash the turigy 9 channel radio. you make scratch build a lot of fun and inexpensive to do. But please do not stop here with your videos. Please share with us your great knowledge. I am trying to get into.Fpv as well, and thank you.
That plane flies extra stable. Almost no left right wobble
Love your work! My friend and I are building from your plans. Hi from Australia!
Very inspiring and lots of useful information in this video. Thank you.
On the leading edge. How about using a contour sander for shaping the leading edge like on giant scale planes? This would give a nice rounded uniform leading edge. I am in the process of building mine now!
Battery bay I made myself out of 4mm plywood. The camera bay was CNC cut by a colleague of mine. If you don't want to make them yourself you can always buy from teamblacksheep or similar.
Great job and thank you for taking the time to put the video together!
Off to get some depron.... My FPV40 always wanted a BIG brother :)
Great video. Working on a wing now, great tips.
You are great. I've cut four aircraft. They're flying all excellent. Thank you..
thanks! yes ez has some very good solutions that work very well together. If i were to buy a new uhf system today it would be Ez UHF for instance. But for video I think I would go for the TBS receiver module in the fatsharks and something else than airwave (immersion) video transmitter.
Interesting. I'll made one this winter !
Should be just fine then. If you are new to flying wings I suggest to make it as light as possible in the beginning, much easier to launch.
Wow, very detailed video. Thanks a lot. Nice looking and functioning wing you have there. : - )
really nicely put together, thanks for your work :)
Excellent video.
Thanks :D
Trond... This video should be an inspiration for those who wish to build their own FPV aircraft. You have done a terrific job of showing how to do it. ~ Dick
Thanks! That means a lot, especially coming from a RC guru like yourself :)
Great video, Thanks for sharing your plans. What distance can you get with the Fat shark FPV 5.8Ghz spiroNet Antenna set. I have just put the same FPV system on a 350QX2 quad copter. I can only get about 80m range right now. I'm thinking everything is just way to close together causing interference. Balancing the props and twisting the cables increased my distance from 40m to 80m. Flying wing may have to be the next project.
Excellent build video!! Thanks for posting
Mine is about the same with 2 batteries + GoPro. Sweet cloudsurfing! :)
My long departed model airplane friend was building hand launch gliders with this airfoil years ago...I have his plans
Ok, that make sense. Thanks for the quick reply. Did you have to add any thrust angle when you mounted the motor or is it 0 degrees.
Thanks again
I've got to draft one of these up and put it on my Phlatprinter. This is just an amazingly stable platform. Where exactly is the CG? Thanks for sharing this beautiful design!
NTM Prop Drive Series 35-42A 1250Kv would do just fine :)
There are also some turnigy motors that can be used. Just look for something that gives about 400 to 600W on a 3cell and has about 1000 to 1500Kv.
Very helpful tips!! I've a lot of respect for your work! Thank you!
Nice video Fpv trond, may I ask what is the weight of your aircraft as well as , what and where did you buy the electronic from. And thank you for the great video of information.
Hi, yes that will be fully possible if the motor is strong enough. How many watts does the motor give with that prop size? You will need something that gives around 450 to 600 watts or more.
Very happy to hear that :)
Excellent! Thanks for sharing!!!
superb. thank you.
Hi, I have set up the radio to give a little down elevon when increasing throttle :)
Not bad for your first project.
Thank you
Very good
Thanx
Thank you. I started gathering the parts to build this plane. The OS motor is out of my budget, so can you please suggest a hobby king equivalent?
Thanks for sharing your plans and guiding us on how to build this cool plane. I am going to build this but my local hobby shop only has depron available in length 1219mm (48 inches). So my question is will it impact on plane's performance if it is short of 1 inch in length? Thank you for your help.
Nope the experienced performance would be more or less the same. I wish my local store had shorter depron sheets :) More practical with smaller plane :D
Thank you so much for your reply!!!!!
Hi Trond, I'm building a v3 and I'm wondering if you have any reflex added to the ailerons? Thanks, Mart
(ps I lived in Norway for a year - you have a spectacular country)
Hi, 5.8GHz works great, especially when you are flying with friends who has 2.4 radios :). I don't have link for sunex lens for GoPro 3. I did buy a sunex lens for GoPro 2 but that's another story. Are you sure you are not talking about the glass for the camera housing?
Trond,
Great Flying Wing and videos. I'm going to build one. I must be missing something but I can't determine the line to draw for the TE. If the ailerons were to extend to the center line, can you tell me how far back from the leading edge to that intersection? In other words what is the chord at the center including the ailerons?
Thanks for sharing! This is a great design!
Very interesting, thank you!
I need that green line, @15:56 have wrong electrical readings, sure its ground loops @15:56. need to mod mine to avoid reading errors!
Should be fine,is it 550W on a 3cell or 4cell? If it gives less on a 3 celll and if you are using a 3 cell it may be a little slow :)
Hiii I am building mine now.Can you please put the drawing and measurements for proper winglets?
Hi, unfortunately the GoPro has proven to be a unreliable camera for live video feed. Also it has delay etc.
Hey great work! But why didnt you plan the battery tray and camera mount while doing these awesome sketches on sketchup? Wouldnt it be easier to be cut in first place, not after the glueing?
Greets, Phil
great video is there another motor thats less expensive but will work just as good
Thanks for the video, which you gain weight empty model (no electronics)?
Sir plz tell me if I use 2212/2200kv motor with 6045 propler n 2200mah battery then it will fly? Plz reply.
Hi Trond. What size carbon strip are you using? Can't tell from video. I found ones in AU 0.5mx10mmx1000mm. My build is coming along just fine. Thanks again
Hi watched your video on building the v49 wing and on the part for installing the electronics, It is a little unclear as how each electronic is connected together to each port. Like the current sensor, camera etc.
Great Video helps a lot, but i ve missed the center of gravity?
Greets and thanks from Germany MM
Why don't you use the GoPro for recording AND flying?
Hey there, if you don't mind me asking where did you get your foam from? shops around my area don't usually carry that size, so I'd like to know, thanks.
210W will be to little for the FPV49V3. Maybe if you make a extremely light FPV49v1 with only a KFm-2 step and one depron sheet for the main body. But better to go with more powerful motor I'm afraid :\
mine is 31x15cm, it tapers from 13cm on the trailing edge of winglets to the front
V1 build and flown. awesome wing and had a great time flying. until i made the hole in the ground whit it.
V3 build in progress. i put the tape on before glueing. made it a lot easyer to do and looks better whit less effort.
could i use all electrics from the V1 on the V3 ? or do i need to upgrade motor prop and esc ?
Exellent video, just a question What was the total weight including electronics?
where do you buy the pvc tape with color?? Nice build vid:D
On another wing I have, the ailerons are set to 5mm up in their default setting (reflex). Does the v.3 need something similar?
thankkkkkkkkkkkkkss, this is amazing video, but i have a question, what´s the model the folding propellers ? do you have information or webpage for buying this?
thank you so much.
Thank you! Now I really want to build your design even though really wanted a rudder fixed wing. Those air foils confused me at first, but it definitely works well. Why are the ailerons so thick?
To match the thickness of the wing. An alternative would be to find 12mm thick balsa elevons or something like that.
Excelent Video !
You guys make life so much easier :-)
Hi Brother :). Very nice video and a beautifull build, i would have used less and insted used some glass on it, but heey you are the man and this is your beautifull video. I would like to ask you why you didnt bout everything from ez? I have thomases and at some point i would love to have another system too. If until then the dragon hasnt come up with a tracker, then i think i would go for the ez. It should be a plus when you buy everything from the same Company, dont you think so?
nice :)
the one you found should be perfect :) I would use anything between 8-10mm.
as usual, a great vid!
😃 Excelente muy bien 😃 👍
Hi! I am from spain, I try to buy depron like yours on UK websites and they say they don't ship to spain. In Spain is really hard/expensive to find/buy. Anybody knows anywhere where depron is available worldwide as the one you use?? cheers!! BTW..where did you buy it?? thanks!
Can you tell me whats you AUW on this thing?
Im building one myself now and my weight with only servos mounted is 670g.
Motor, esc, lipo, cameras, transmitters and so on will probably add 700g if not more..
Please see 01:01 for drawings. I guess the measurement you are looking for is: 700-305+65=460?
THANKS
Thanks for the videos, I have mine ready for maiden since one month ago! Broken my tx an send to repair. Are you ok with the 5.8 vtx ? And please put a link for the Gopro 3 sunex lens, maybe one day I will need it, I didn't saw one for the new gp 3
Nice!
i got 2200, 2600 and 3350mah, will tray to maiden it to morrow.
oh no, the max is 210W, is that mean not possible? i'm using 2200mah 3S LIPo
Not a bad idea :)
tx turnigy looks futuristic, how much is the tx used? Thnks.......
how much this weight? I making a project for research drones, do you ever try get more flight time of this airframe?
Where did you get the wooden battery and camera bays?
your foam looks floppier than regular depron. More like HK Aero foam. Which is what I have comin, phew.
How do i scale down to 30A ESC size?
Where do u get the fpv camera? The Sony camera not the gopro
hi trond im from fredrikstad, love your videos, just beginning flying wings and
building your wing and wonder if this engine and prop is ok
NTM Prop Drive Series 35-36A 1400Kv / 550W
prop 11x8
Onde consigo comprar depron desse jeito Aki no Brazil não tem apesar nunca tem nada de qualidade né
hi can a 1000kv Brushless Motor with a prop 9x6 able to fly this model? I'm a beginner.
Hey man could i make it a 2piece wing for better transportation?
Answering myself, I have built this wing now and got a AUW on 1.8kg. Climbs vertical if I give it max throttle :)
See my channel for a video in the clouds, FPV49 v3 - Cloudbusting.
I'm an Avid Builder, but.. I've never built a Flying Wing and I'm maybe gonna try one, My biggest concern would be balancing out the CG, is there a formula or maybe a tutorial on how to figure exactly where the CG should be? Inquiring mind needs too know... :)
+Hyper Joe Try this site I've used it and mine fly great winglib.com
+Richard Long Thanks Richard, that's Perfect, able to Size,Shape, and Calculate Proper Balance in a Few Clicks, Awesome Site! Just what I needed.. :D
what kind of folding propeller are used in this plane?
what size foamboard are you using?
thank you
Allan
atmm89 6mm thick 1,25m x 0,8
Do you have a hobby king equivalent for the motor?
