Wow I didn’t know you guys were married. Congratulations💍🎊🎉 Clariss is a Musical Theatre nerd too?! Like me!!!💚 I saw your Shrek the musical reaction last year but I didn’t put a comment on the video.
Some fun facts on this: • It took about an hour and a half for Brian d'Arcy James (Shrek) to get into makeup. • In the song "ballad of Farquad" Farquad references that his father is grumpy, one of the seven dwarves", (as we knew) and implying his mother is the princess from The Princess And The Pea. • John Tartagila played Pinocchio, Magic Mirror, and the puppeteer for Dragon. • Haven Burton Paschall was Sugar Plum Fairy, Gingy, and A Dragonette • Aymee Garcia was Mama Bear and A Dragonette • Rachel Steen was Shrek’s Mom, Tweedle Dum, and a Dragonette
Fun Fact: Shrek's parents kicking him out is an aspect taken from the Shrek book. Here it's treated as a tradition Ogers do when their children are a certain age. In the book it's because Shrek was born so much uglier than a usual Oger child, his parents kicked him out because they couldn't handle the sight of him.
Much respect for the case of this musical they had a high bar to live up to. Also, you were the first person I've seen get the reference to Defying Gravity. Much props to the guy who played Farquad to be able to hit the note the legendary Idina Menzel hit
I had the honor to play Shrek in this show a few years back, and to this day it's one of my favorite roles I've ever played. The show is wacky, crazy and an absolute blast.
Ahhhhhhh finally! I absolutely love this musical. Not only for the songs but I also love it for the so called “story line” between Pinocchio and the Elf throughout the whole show and how they end up being love interests in the finale! 😊
Yes! Nothing makes me happier then reactions to musicals and watching people enjoy them. You should check out the pro-shots (filmed live performances) of “Billy Elliot live”, “Newsies the Musical” and “Come From Away” all of which are on streaming sites. They are fantastic and all have very different vibes/genres of musicals.
I don't know why people say this musical sucks, it's a great Shrek adaptation! Thank you, Timothee (and to your friend as well) Happy friday and God bless you. Hope i see you soon for more, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I had a summer in high school where I watched this on repeat every day. Without exaggeration, I would have it on passively all the time, and as soon as it ended, I'd start it from the top. I'm 22 now and haven't seen this musical in so long but, I felt like I was 16 again for an hour watching this with you guys, so thank you
I was lucky enough to play Donkey in my hometown's rendition of Shrek the Musical back in 2021! To say it was a dream come true is an understatement. 💚💚💚
You would not believe how Long I’ve been waiting for someone to react to this! It deserves all the praise! I saw a musical production in my home state and I loved it! I’ve watched this in dvd for years! And finally someone gives it a chance for reaction!
17:05 we get it Shrek! 20:50 Cameo! 21:22 oh my!😂 24:41 Turn on the Donkey Charm! 27:24 "it's on my to do list" 33:37 Bird is dead! 36:30 Small jokes! 38:18 Dam Shrek! 42:42 Make the Move! 45:00🤣🤣🤣 52:17 Yes it does! 55:00 Dance Dance Tim and Clariss!
I like Lord Farquaad’s interpretation here. In the movie he was serious like any other evil villain. Here he’s basically a spoil brat with power, like if Prince Joffrey was a kids villain lol
This is one of my favorite musicals! Although a fun fact is that Farquaad would give his horse different names in each performance, other examples include Steven Spielberg, Justin Bieber, Fiberglass and Reference to the Second Movie.
My high school did this exact musical. The opening was the same, Farquad went “Wait a minyat”, the actor playing Farquad had trouble getting the leg to kneel, and the dragon was played by a woman and she came to the stage at the end
When my school did Shrek a few years ago, I actually had the privilege of painting the Ogre sign at Shrek's swamp! Also I was given a backstage tour of the show where I saw a bunch of the props they would use, and I specifically remember holding the Gingy puppet
I was fortunate years ago to see this live at the new theater at our local college (actual cast and everything). They had the whole audience up on their feet at the end song and everything. So fun live!
My goodness! I had such a great time singing and laughing along with you! It brought back memories. Several years ago, I was introduced to it and not because of Broadway. It was because of something else. My sister was in school. And they were doing a musical. It was "Shrek the Musical." (Because it was an elementary school production, it was a Jr. performance.) My sister got double roles. She was a Duloc performer and the Pied Piper. She practiced hard. And she shone on that stage. We had family from out of town come watch her. And we saw the musical one evening. The kids in the musical were fantastic.
I havnt clicked on a react video this fast in a LONG time ❤❤❤❤ this is one of my favorite musicals, I honestly love it more than the original. I play the songs while I'm cleaning; no joke, I adore this musical and its so highly underrated. The songs are amazing, the performances are brilliant, the acting is phenomenal - everything about this is great! So happy to finally see others appreciating it ❤
Hey so I love the reactions this was now one of my favorite reactions because in 2009 I saw Shrek the Musical on Broadway when I was 5 years old and also that was my first show, I saw on Broadway, so this has a special place in my heart. Also, since then I loved going to shows on Broadway and it's easy to go because I live in New York City.
this is gonna sound stupid, but i worked tech in high school for theater, and this was one of the musicals we did and it holds SUCH a place in my heart. I made the fairy's costume and one of farquads, and i was responsible for donkeys makeup for every show, it was such a fun experience, plus this was my first show working on set (not just making the tech stuff i actually ran the show) and we got to skip class for the matinees and stuff it was so so so fun and i miss it so much (i still remember all the songs by heart bc i heard it everyday for two weeks lol!)
Hey, Tim! I love your videos. I'm also a huge fan of Disney and Dreamworks. I'm also a huge fan of Lilo and Stitch. Anyway, I hope you have a great magical day and a happy new year.
Fiona's song is so good! The charming music, the pretty costumes, her slowly growing up and talking about her dream. I love it! The last time iwathc the musicl was 3 years ago and i still remember the lyrics. It's great 😄
Say, next you should look at the Shrek/Puss shorts and TV specials: Shrek in the Swamp: Karaoke Dance Party, The Ghost of Lord Farquaad, Far Far Away Idol, Shrek the Halls, Scared Shrekless, Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular, Thriller Night, The Pig Who Cried Werewolf, The Three Diablos, and The Trident. Also check out the TV series The Adventures of Puss in Boots and the interactive special Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale.
I was in this musical in school and it is amazing to see all the behind the scenes work that goes into making a show as massive and as imaginative as this one!💚
In some versions of the musical, the dragon had a different song called “Forever”, and I much prefer that one over “Donkey Pot Pie”. There’s some videos of it on RUclips, and I recommend checking it out.
I wonder if you'd consider "Legally Blonde The Musical" too. Just like Shrek as a movie made into a musical, the stuff added just enhanced what you already knew.
Personally, I think making Shrek a musical kind of undermines the point of Shrek, but I'll admit the actors are great and most of the songs are pretty good.
Puss in Boots 2 existing undermines the point of Shrek even further. Cause at least the musical was satyrical...But Puss in Boots 2 unironically views itself as a serious fairytale, and even has a musical number and illustation artstyle
Yh but I would say as it’s in a musical form it’s in its own class as u can you enjoy it separately to the shrek movies like yes it’s satirical but is also taking it’s self a bit more seriously and I would say it work’s especially with the original songs
If they had released this back when the movie was first coming out, I would agree and it probably would have flopped for that reason. But I think Disney’s direction since then (suddenly scared of the traditional love story) oddly makes this work a little more. 😂 Plus this franchise has proven to hold itself as something way more than making fun of Disney. If that was the only leg it had to stand on, we wouldn’t be enjoying it 20+ years later. ❤
Oh I love this movie. I really do love musical however, I deaf but thank god subtitles on my tv screen hehe. Sutton Foster oh my gosh triple threat since Mille on broadway even Jonathan Groff obsessed with her so am I. 🤣😂
One of my top 3 favorite live stage musicals I've ever seen along with The Whiz Live! (2015) and Elf The Musical (2010) 😄💕🎶💚, also my favorite song from this musical is the Travel Song 🤣
Honestly, I think even with the context shrek would still be hurt and offended because because the half she hated in that moment was everything that he was.
I love this musical 😅 Hope you consider watching Starkid musicals, especially Twisted, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday and Nerdy Prudes Must Die
Awww this one of my Netflix regulars as a person who enjoys broadway and the family’s token theater dork and I think my high school did this musical but unfortunately this was years before I entered the school 😊 I also enjoyed the song I know it’s today as a hopeless romantic 💘
This musical is actually really fun. It’s not really as grand as Hamilton, but it is as great as Wicked. It has some fun moments and fun songs. (BTW, loving the green shirts to watch the musical. 😅)
If you ever get the chance, read the original children’s novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi. The fate of the talking cricket in the original tale makes death by windshield seem wholesome.
I vaguely remember watching a different version of the Shrek Musical, with the guy who originally played Farquad in the movie was portraying him in the musical as well.
Lord Farquaad the man playing him is in all Black and on his knees to control the legs so he’s able to control his arms but Lord Farquaad being small well the legs are attached on his thighs while he’s using knee pads but a hard character to be what she says is True!!
I have to admit I don’t really enjoy this musical and I am a huge theater kid I do love the music though.. have you reacted to the SpongeBob musical because I really love that one
Im just gonna put this out there... Forever is superior to Donkey Pot Pie! But for real thanks so much for doing this reaction! I adore this musical so much

Fun Fact:
Shrek's parents kicking him out is an aspect taken from the Shrek book.
Here it's treated as a tradition Ogers do when their children are a certain age.
In the book it's because Shrek was born so much uglier than a usual Oger child, his parents kicked him out because they couldn't handle the sight of him.

I like Lord Farquaad’s interpretation here. In the movie he was serious like any other evil villain. Here he’s basically a spoil brat with power, like if Prince Joffrey was a kids villain lol
In hindsight, the Mirror literally gave Farquad the option to rescue / wed someone that was either connected to his dad or was possibly his mom.
This is one of my favorite musicals! Although a fun fact is that Farquaad would give his horse different names in each performance, other examples include Steven Spielberg, Justin Bieber, Fiberglass and Reference to the Second Movie.

the musical is actually from 2008. 8423 days is actually 23 years, so since fiona was sent away at 7, she’s 30.
Such a fun musical
I learned that the guy playing Shrek in the musical also plays the HBO Legal Counsel in Eat Shit Bob. XD

Personally, I do find that I agree with the one opinion that Shrek shouldn’t have sung until the campfire scene when asked who he’d rather be,
I get cinematically that would be cool, but not having the main character sing until the last song of Act 1 would be a bad idea.
Holy cow!
Thank you SO MUCH for giving this a chance! Hope you liked it.
We’re doing Shrek for our school musical, hope I get Fiona
Shrek the musical is very incredible.
