I think the Dodgers pitching depth might actually be a big advantage for Sasaki. Clearly his development is very important to him, and the Dodgers are the only team where he doesn't have to come in and be a top of the rotation starter. He can come in, get acclimated to MLB, get starts, get postseason experience, but not have to feel like the team is on his back.

You know, it's funny to me as an LA region resident. All the hoopla and pearl clutching over Shohei and Yamamoto going to the Dodgers, and they were hardly the baseball equivalent of Thanos in 2024. Dodgers kept getting injured, especially pitchers, so this team clawed their way through the NLDS, used 3 bullpen games and a ragtag team on their way to the championship trophy. If they didn't have Tommy Edman or K.Hernandez, they wouldn't have beaten the Mets; hell, if the Yankees played cleaner baseball there would have been at least 6 games of the World Series. Interesting guys with Blue Jays and Twins hats on question if Roki goes to the Dodgers is it bad for baseball. Was it bad for baseball when Shohei signed with the Dodgers instead of Toronto? Hardly…..
The Dodgers are building a dynasty! They are running there program to the T and are the greatest team in all of baseball at this point in time! This did not happen over night, hard work, dedication and sacrifice allowed this team to finally be at the top of the mountain top where they belong! So miss me with that good for baseball stuff! This is a business and the only thing that matters is winning and the dodgers are doing everything possible to perform and do that!! Hey any team can do it! Last time that I checked we don’t get any special treatment or rule book! These rules apply to the entire league!! Don’t get mad at us because our billionaires actually care about winning and yours treat your program like a cash cow!! Lmao
They constantly have gone against the dodgers idk if they are mad about them beating the Yankees but I swear they have had it out for the dodgers ever since at least that’s how it appears to me
i dont agree with everyone saying jays need to pick a direction. i think they've been very clear about the direction they're trying to go. they've literally made 2 offers of 700+mil to 2 separate players in the past year, they offered burnes more money than what he eventually signed for, they have an offer out to santander and they're in on sasaki. they're clearly trying to win now, they just haven't been able to get the guys to sign. it sucks for them but i dont think it's a secret as to what they're trying to do, they're clearly not trying to sell and go into a rebuild. the only stupid thing is that they haven't extended vladdy and/or bichette yet, but that seems like a miscalculation on their part, they timed it incorrectly and now don't want to pay what vladdy will now cost because they're stuck on a lower number which probably would've been enough a season or two ago (the reverse of the mets & alonso situation). so this was mistimed it horribly, but they're clearly not trying to sell. now, should they be sellers and go for a rebuild? maybe. but in terms of being clear and picking a direction, blue jays management has been very clear on that.
Roki will regret not signing with the Dodgers. If he ends up signing with the Padres, that’s the worst situation for me. The Padres are going to run into more money trouble when Tatis, Machado, and Bogaerts combine for almost $100mil just themselves. Not to mention the legal battle that is looming over their heads right now.
It’s rough here in LA. Glad you’re safe Trev. Chris usually has great takes. This is one of the worst. Carrot cake is easily a top 5 cake, and possibly top 3.
Assuming Sasaki desires a West Coast team, San Francisco is the best landing spot. Neither LA nor San Diego needs him to compete for a World Series. And do you really trust any coastal AL West team to be competitive any time soon? Sasaki to the Giants would create an amazing and fun NL West for years to come.
He's making scraps for a contract and you want him to play for the Mariners? He's going to play for a west coast team that'll compete and has an offense and a defense that'll back him up. With that said, the only downside for the Dodgers are they have too many pitchers and they plan to go with a 6 man rotation which will reduce his exposure and his numbers. Other than that...there's no decision here.
I think people put so much emphasis on revenue and not very much on profitability. Many teams that do not spend just aren’t willing to sacrifice profitability. The best teams in MLB are willing to sacrifice that profitability and so many other owners are not. Some of the teams that everyone complains can’t be completely make more money than the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers every year. They may not have 600 million in revenue but many of them profit upwards of 200 million and the top spending teams do not. Blame your teams owners not the big market teams.
In terms of people playing in the United States that have international appeal like Shohei's, Only Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) really compares to the magnitude.
First Trevor says that “it’s just business” for teams going to arbitration, and then he contradicts himself by saying that teams shouldn’t go to arbitration.
Roki doesn’t want to have to worry about his paychecks bouncing in San Diego. Their ownership is a mess right now. Dodgers begin the year in Japan. Yamamoto and Sasaki games 1 and 2 starters with Shohei at DH will be awesome. Let’s Go Dodgers!!!!
If I come at it from a neutral position I think if roki goes to the padres it would be “best for baseball” because the padres can still compete with the dodgers in a heavyweight battle and they’d have a solid piece in sasaki to help close the gap between the two. But as a dodger fan I say eff that and hope he signs with us lol. Let’s make a dynasty!
Lol, this aged well guys. Cubs, Yankees and Mets all eliminated from consideration. The fire dumpster the Padres are right know, he's signing for the Dodgers.
As a crying Giants fan leaving in Japan, yes indeed Ohtani's face is everywhere. I NEED a Japanese to sign with SF but Sasaki confirmed he won't and we won't need a 1st or 3rd baseman when Murakami will come to the US. When I came to Japan 12 years ago people were like ''oh Giants fan ! Barry Bonds!'' or the fact Tsuyoshi Shinjou was the first japanese getting a hit in the WS with us in 2002. Aoki was great before the 2 dead ball on his knee... It's been really tough even tho' I like our team coming into 2025, we would be WS contenders if the Giants were an AL team xD
Of course Ohtani is a bargain. Compared to Soto's (economic) value to the Mets, Ohtani's contract is equivalent to a spring training invitee to the Dodgers.
I doubt the Sox and Duran actually go to a hearing. They probably get a deal done before that actually happens. But it’s not about $500K. It’s about how much money it costs later. Arbitration is based on what you make the previous year. The Sox fear $500K now will cost them $7-8M in the final year. I’ve been very annoyed by how little the Sox have spent in recent years, but I just feel like we need that context. It’s not as crazy as it sounds.
If he goes to the dodgers than this is gonna lead to that 1B that’s coming over to Japan next year right to dodgers as well. No way he’s going to blue jays 😭

Lmao
They constantly have gone against the dodgers idk if they are mad about them beating the Yankees but I swear they have had it out for the dodgers ever since at least that’s how it appears to me
Trevor you’re about 1 mile from me! Thats wild
i dont agree with everyone saying jays need to pick a direction. i think they've been very clear about the direction they're trying to go. they've literally made 2 offers of 700+mil to 2 separate players in the past year, they offered burnes more money than what he eventually signed for, they have an offer out to santander and they're in on sasaki. they're clearly trying to win now, they just haven't been able to get the guys to sign. it sucks for them but i dont think it's a secret as to what they're trying to do, they're clearly not trying to sell and go into a rebuild.
the only stupid thing is that they haven't extended vladdy and/or bichette yet, but that seems like a miscalculation on their part, they timed it incorrectly and now don't want to pay what vladdy will now cost because they're stuck on a lower number which probably would've been enough a season or two ago (the reverse of the mets & alonso situation). so this was mistimed it horribly, but they're clearly not trying to sell.
now, should they be sellers and go for a rebuild? maybe. but in terms of being clear and picking a direction, blue jays management has been very clear on that.
its always been SD or LA so just wait till end of sign period
Roki will regret not signing with the Dodgers. If he ends up signing with the Padres, that’s the worst situation for me. The Padres are going to run into more money trouble when Tatis, Machado, and Bogaerts combine for almost $100mil just themselves. Not to mention the legal battle that is looming over their heads right now.
It’s rough here in LA. Glad you’re safe Trev.
Chris usually has great takes. This is one of the worst. Carrot cake is easily a top 5 cake, and possibly top 3.
Carrot cake is the absolute best. Shout out Trev
I guess you haven’t heard the news that Rōki Sasaki will not be signing with giants
Old journalism adage: if a headline asks a yes/no question, the answer is always “no.”
Roki is going to a big market team. Padres Trev? All that drama with ownership. Plus they have limited funds to compete. Stop hating on the dodgers.
No, the Pirates would not make additions if they got Sasaki. That owner is perfectly content losing and milking revenue sharing.
Problem with Hoffman is he failed 2 physicals by other teams that canceled deals and then... signed a 3 yr deal
I really wish Detroit was in on Roki, they're in desperate need of starting pitching and they're trending in the right direction.
He Will Be a Dodger 🎉 💪🏼
Trev and Katie together would rock for me.
Coach Trev, glad you're okay!
Trevor, this aged well.
Good carrot cake is the best! No raisins tho…
Went to HS with your aunts in Reseda… 🎉
Lol, this aged well guys. Cubs, Yankees and Mets all eliminated from consideration. The fire dumpster the Padres are right know, he's signing for the Dodgers.
Roki with Hunter Greene, Lodolo, Tito and Elly would be amazing
Blue jays hat 👍👌
13:27 100% Rosey
I doubt the Sox and Duran actually go to a hearing. They probably get a deal done before that actually happens. But it’s not about $500K. It’s about how much money it costs later. Arbitration is based on what you make the previous year. The Sox fear $500K now will cost them $7-8M in the final year. I’ve been very annoyed by how little the Sox have spent in recent years, but I just feel like we need that context. It’s not as crazy as it sounds.
Gentlemen (and your families), please stay safe.
Roki to angels baby!!!
Yeah… the NBA ratings were at an all time low when the Warriors had their super team… so bad for the MLB and their ratings…
👏 Trev
“Where’s it best for baseball to sign?”
Shuuuut uppppp lol
If he goes to the dodgers than this is gonna lead to that 1B that’s coming over to Japan next year right to dodgers as well. No way he’s going to blue jays 😭
I think he might be thinking, do I join the best or do I got against the best ?
Why would it be bad for baseball? Haters stop hating. Any team had the same opportunity to get him. It's what he chooses any how. Go Dodgers #1
