Well, the sun was out and the sky was blue, so it would have been rude not to try and go up a mountain. The mountain in question was Ben Lomond. Truly one of the best and most accessible Munro's in Scotland.
Unfortunately, the snow and ice were a bit too much for me to consider going all the way to the top, but I did still manage to do a good bit of the descent and it was still very much worth the effort.

It's super cool to see how sharp the snowline is when you filmed the panorama shots. You're definitely properly up there!
It was pretty well defined for sure. I actually want all that high, maybe 2000ft. Winter in Scotland can be very random though, next week it could all be gone.
I've just done Ben Lomond 2 days ago, man, the amount of explaining, that "yes, I will be cycling down", and then excuse meing, and thankyouing was unreal. Totally worth it though. The descent is just amazing. I found it very physical, but sooooo rewarding. I was eying out that rock in the woods before, when I was there on foot, and it just blew my mind when you actually rode it. You get to meet some interesting people as well. I had a good chat with a guy, who was about in his mid 60s. He was on the way down the Ben for the second time that day. He's a ski mountaineer, and he's off to Japan in two weeks, to do an 8 day ski traverse of the northern Alps (I think that's what he said), so he's working on his fitness you see 🙄🙄
The drone shots add so much to the videos.... spectacular 💯
I think so too 👍
I might have to stop watching your videos as want to sell up and move to Scotland every time you post 🤣Absolutely stunning.
Haha, do it mate🤘
Ah, so that's how you ride it?! 🤣
Amazing riding there Andrew 👌
Thanks Jamie 😊
Excellent trail riding with brilliant view's.
Many thanks!
Very good ride in a mountain bike
Thank you 😊
Wow!! The views are just gorgeous!! Stunning scenery!! Beautiful place you live in.
When the sun is out, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world 😍
Without Super Fantastic Videos like this i would never get to see our Beautiful Scottish landscapes i seriously applaud you Andrew this one brought a tear to my eye! Many thanks!👍 your skill is insane, id be on my arse!
Many thanks Roger ☺️
The views using the drone are just amazing ❤
Thanks
Another belta vid n ridin bro 👏👏
Appreciate it
Have been enjoying your recent foreign trips but these Scottish Mountain rides are amazing. Love the country the mountains and the views. Great footage and editing.
I think the Scottish hills are what most people tune in for tbh. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
awesome riding and video Andrew cheers - good to see you back in Scotland and on the highlander, nice trails, great stuff
Thanks, much more to come 👍
Cool intro. I thought you were going full ASMR. Thanks for the vid. Cheers
Maybe go full asmr on another video 🤔
Bloody ace video and the just love the Highlander. Such a perfect day too. Wow just wow
I was reminded just how good the Highlander is on this ride 👌
@@McTrailRider definitely looks it. So need to do this
the bloke in shorts and a T-shirt at the end surprised me!
There’s always one 😜
If only you could have got away with having Runrig playing in the background during the panoramic shots, eh! More awesome riding Andrew, and all the different shots on the climb up really added to the storytelling.
That would have been a pretty cool addition 👍
Cracking ride and spectacular footage. Looked tough on the arms on some sections there.. well done Andy. Another top ride.
Cheers Gaz😊
Yeh must be as hard as Henderson’s wearing no gloves at that height and temp 😂 as always great footage of the best wee country in the world ❤️🏴
Maybe 😜 I mustn’t feel the cold the same as some people then.
Thanks Andrew...that was very cool , and as usual , your riding is amazing ! Pretty green there already , be well ! I found a net that could go over my helmet for midge defense .
If you have no net, you’re forced to cycle faster to get away from the midges. It’s a great workout 😜
@@McTrailRider ah yeah. They catch me, bud old and slow 🤷🏼♂️🧠🥔
Nice descent, can't wait till the clocks go forward and I can start doing these on weekdays after work, much quieter on the weekdays.
You and me both! Although this was a Monday, a particularly stunning one tbf.
Good riding. My mate (Old Stuart Cripps) cleaned that teccy section “blind” aged 68! 🙌
That is seriously impressive 👏
@@McTrailRider I’ve got it on video, he makes it look a piece of piss (which it isn’t)
What a day for it 😁 always fancied Ben Lomond! Not sure whether to do on the normal full sus or ebike....heard its quite technical and hike a bike so probably leave the ebike at home
I definitely wouldn’t recommend using the e-bike for this one tbh.
I was up Ben Lomond about 10 days ago and it was about 30 degrees
I’m guessing that was a different Ben Lomond then 😜
amazing trail and thank you for this video. I wonder what was your Suspension Settings ? It looks and sounds bumpy but also smooth and soft. It looks like you could go really fast with this setting.
I’m not sure it’s worth me sharing my full and exact setting on here, but what I will say is that I like to run my suspension on the softer side of the scale and I try not to run too much low speed compression damping.
brilliant riding m8, drone footage was sweet! :)
think i saw my house :P
Haha, glad you enjoyed it.
Back to an old favourite then Andrew....
A classic in many senses 👍
When you said you may not need the Claymore but you want one. Made me think. Where I live in England. It doesn't have massive descents. So I don't really need a 160mm/170mm enduro bike. It didn't stop from me from buying one. I just don't ride it like Blake Samson did.
Most people are over biked in my opinion, but that didn’t mean that they are wrong to do so. It’s sprays nice to have a bit of a buffer for when you inevitably get things wrong.
walked out it on jan 1st …and am like aye could ride this bit the bit at the bottom am like a would die 😂😂
The bottom bit is pretty wild tbf, but the mountain overall pretty much all goes 🤘
Hi i wonder how you sync the audio of the gopro with the video of the drone while you're riding. I do really like it. do you do a single cut an link them at the beginning ? I don't think because at every scene cut you'd loose the sync. Any tips ? thanks. Stunnig views as always 🤟🏻
I clap my hands at the start and align the two clips. I use the pov camera as the main timeline and the drone over the top.
I then remove some sections of the drone clips from the top and keep the remaining sections attached to the main timeline.
That may not make any sense though 🤦🏼♂️
@@McTrailRider that's exactly how i'd think to do it but i wasn't sure. triple clap at the beginning, align timelines and when you cut something from the "drone", you leave the timeline with gaps and use the other one for the shot. Thank you so much
@@papapelatomtb that’s the one 👍
Massive fan and fairly long time subscriber but I do just have one question. Do you EVER wear gloves??
I only wear gloves if it is very cold or it’s too hot and I can’t grip the bars because of sweat.
Hello what is the drone make and model
Thank You
Not that im stalking you! But I am there in a few days. (We are getting a puppy from Drymen) Looks like most of that is hike a bike on the way up. Defo not for a ebike im guessing. Tremp and Ainsea were amazing btw.
Need something to get me back on the analog!
I may need to inform the police 😜
Drymen is so close, you might as well do Ben Lomond. Definitely a regular bike route, not suitable for ebbing in my opinion.
I wonder what those hikers think when you passed them
A whole range of things would imagine.
No more drone noise - is it a quet one or did you map the frequency out of the audio track?
It’s a different drone, which is much quieter 👍
Can pls tell your go pro settings? Is protune on or off ? Do you use go pro colour or flat and later color grade your video?
Curve ball, I actually film with a DJI Action 4. I do film with a flat colour profile and grade it whilst editing though.
@@McTrailRider do you highly sharpen videos post edit ? They look very crisp.
If don't mind can you share your color grading setup or LUTS😬, or post video about that
@@harisankar1317 in going to start lowering the sharpness a bit, I think it’s maybe a bit too much at the moment.
I don’t use any LUT’s, I just grade to suit the days conditions each time.
@@McTrailRider don't lower sharpness. Your videos are all classic👌👌. Other youtubers recommeds to lower sharpness I never seemed to enjoy those videos.
@@harisankar1317 don’t worry, it’s not going to be by much at all. Happy you like the image I create though👍
My advice concerning the Ptarmigan ridge is don't bother, it's hellish... Trust me.
Challenge accepted 😜
@@McTrailRider OK.. That's down to you, I'll be waiting for your response to it.
@@fuckinellitsraymo 😬🙈
No gloves!!??? 🥶
I rarely wear them tbh.
hated the fecking climb up.
Mountains can be that way 😜
