ISOLATION. It's one of the reasons we've chosen to spend our lives at sea...sailing thousands upon thousands of miles to explore the farthest reaches of the earth, finding little pockets of peace, solitude, and unbelievable beauty away from the hustle and bustle of civilisation. But what happens when things go wrong, and the same isolation you were seeking is now what stands between you and getting help when the person you love most in the world is having a medical emergency.
We've had a few other sketchy situations over the years, but this one really hit home and made us realize how vulnerable we really are when we're off the grid. In this case we were about ten hours of travel away from medical care...but we've often been much further away from civilization like an ocean crossing for example. So as stressful as it was, looking back on it we felt so lucky that we were able to get the help we needed. And since many of you are current or future cruisers, we just wanted to also take this time to encourage you to make sure you have a thorough and well organized medical kit on board, and that you know what you have and how to use it. This is our go to resource that we keep on board, we highly recommend you pick up a copy or something similar. It's called Advanced First Aid Afloat and it focuses on how to handle almost any medical situation you might encounter at sea without access to help from a medical professional.
Here's a link to find it on Amazon:

We also made an episode all about our medical kit and what we keep on board:

OK Brian! It's time!!!!!!!!!!! IT"S TIME to pass the Torch and START THE NEXT CHAPTER!!! Take a Break and find a job on a PRIVATE YACHT as OOW/Problem solver/ semi medic, THE List can go on and on!! Your knowledge base is of extreme value!! I'm Sure that during your Sailing Exposure, you have met many a Captain that will HIRE You in a Second! I would bet you have NO problem being offered a position of such. TIME TO MAKE THAT JUMP!! Let Brady take the helm of Delos for a little while. Turn the Clock back a little bit, Bring Brady on the helm, take on some sailing mates for Sailing help. All the while Keeping Delos prevalent in the Social Media Arena!!!! Mechanical issues were never Bradys' forte but Thanks to the Electronical devices available today, You still have the ability to monitor Delos in every aspect needed and Then when Needed you have the physical labor needed as well!! Life on the hard ground for awhile may be good for you. Bring back the old crew with Brady at the helm for awhile!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you don't like answering to the Man but Sometimes that Man recognizes and respects your Knowledge base and Maybe you can recognize his as well!! Listen to me Grasshopper! I will meet you face to face one day and maybe I will be a deckhand for a bit, then find myself as 1st mat, OOW, Then gunning for captain. You up for the Challenge?? LPOKC

MY Wife got UTI's all of time. She is a Natural Health Nut and through research found D-MANNOSE which is used for urinary health. She has been using for 20 years and hasn't gotten a UTI since. It's a natural sugar that keeps bacteria from adhering to the urinary walls. She takes ONE 500 MG a day for maintenance. If she feels like anything might be brewing, she'll ups it to TWO or THREE a day. Hope this helps you as much as it has for so many. Love you guys Wes n Sheri.. PS; SUPER HAPPY you didn't have anything that was worse and you were able to mend quickly !! :)

As a former Lifeguard and EMT, the thought of a medical emergency at sea hours or days from a hospital is terrifying to me. A medic is only as good as the equipment he or she has. I applaud you on the well-stocked First Aid kit. Also, I think DAN evaluation insurance might be a worthwhile investment.

Amazing. It shows how much we all are capable of (wish we all showed it all the time). In the last 76 years I have had the fortune (not monetary), to be a member of a number of different close groups (Weekend RV, Off road dirt bike, Dune Buggy, Sand Buggy, Horse trails, Skiing (water and snow) etc.) I have found that when we aren't in competition (other than playful), we as a society can be so incredibly friendly and helpful to each other. Wish there was a way to get the entire planet on the same keel. All to help and learn from each other rather than forcing others to follow our or there lead. Not being a cruising sailed I have not experience your particular group of associates but it appears the same comradery exists. Great to see examples of what we ALL are capable of. Complete strangers with NOTHING to gain chipping in to help.
THANKS for the refresh on what we should all should strive for each day. The rewards FAR outweigh the work involved.

When we made it to Split and needed a hotel for several days, the desk clerk said it would be to expensive to stay there but she had a friend down the coast we could stay with. When we found her house and told her our problem , next day she called a Dr, made appointment for us and took us to the Dr and translated for me. Had to go every day for 10 days so he could get a penicillin injection. They said they thought he had rheumatic fever. Is was so nice to have a friendly face to help us through a bad time

Another episode that brings out some of the finest examples of humanity. At times you link up with folks who have been following Delos for some time, at other times good folks who have never heard of Delos. There are indeed good people around the planet.

I've been watching you guys for years. I love your content.i miss seeing Brady and Blue with you guys, but you guys have made a fantastic family in the process, so congratulations 😁. I was thinking if you guys haven't already done this yet, you should sell model sailboats of Delos. I'd love to build one with my daughter. Thanks again, you guy ate an inspiration. Also, I'm sorry you were not feeling well. 😔

Brian, you can lower high temps fast with an onion! Cut in half put cut end against bottom of each foot about center of feet.
Works with children, adults! Old Italian remedy that absolutely works!
    Safe travels!

So glad for your village! As far as the cost, let me give you a comparison. I live near Philadelphia and needed IV antibiotics because of a cat bite. No treatment or testing was required, and they did not come to my house (LOL). Literally walked in, saw a triage person, got the IV, and left. The bill was $1200. So happy Karin is better and grace was there to help. Nugget is a real trooper (you too, Brian!).

That alone was worth a gazillion dollars!
